I need to upgrade my PC so Bad Company 2 doesn't run terribly.

Okay apparently you need a quad core to run BC2 well, which I found out from playing the beta. So I need a new CPU. I really don't know what to look for though. I don't know how much to spend, or even if it will work with my PC.
Current specs:
2.8GHz dual core
3GB RAM
HD4870
And then of course a 550W power supply.
So pretty much I need a new CPU but I have no idea what I'm doing. Advice/recommendations please?

What cpu do you have because your graphics card is fine.
Ehm specifically it's...
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5600+ 2.8GHz
Is what my PC tells me.

Could we get your motherboard model because your cpu could use an upgrade.
Tell us the model of the motherboard.
It's a shitty prebuilt PC. Where do I find the motherboard model.
Yes I understand I seem completely retarded.
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.00 GHz runs the game great.
Although I don't have Win7 to run DirectX 11.
Also is 3 gigs of RAM fine or will I need to upgrade that too?
This should do you fine.

To make sure the powersupply would work. Or did you buy your own.
Yes I bought the power supply when I bought the 4870.
(The PC itself was bought in like 2007, I only upgraded the graphics card and the power supply.)
