this is why you don't come to facepunch for headphones
everyone but a few love the only decent headphone brand they know, which is sennheiser
also, half the people will give headphones that are OPEN rather than closed
That being said I'd recommend the OP to ask this question in Head-Fi Forums if he truly cares about what is he spending his money on. Although they're a bit purist they surely know what they're talking about.
also, g35 lovers
And people who bought HD 555 because everyone else recommended them because none of them has actually listened to any other headphones of reasonable quality.
Because that's how the internet rolls.
You sir, don't know jack shit about audio and have fallen for Sennheisers great marketing. The fact they're the dominant headphone brand in every dept. store doesn't make them best. Go listen to some brands you won't find in a Walmart and come to this thread again.
That's like saying:
why can't something that has great advertising ever actually be good too? i've had many pairs of headphones and sennheiser's are so far the best in more ways that audio. they are well designed, sturdy, and very well priced for their performance. sorry for recommending something that's actually decent.
Eh, Sennheiser's are okay.. I have these "Tonsion's" and they're pretty good, except the mic is absolute CRAP.

What other brands have you heard? The superiority of Sennheiser is your own subjective view, and I'm trying to say that in his price bracket there's much other options in there that he might find even better than Sennheiser. Sennheiser is a great brand, but there are alternatives with different sound signature and features, and in this case Sennheiser isn't the optimal choice because their closed cans are actually pretty rubbish (HD 215, HD 280 PRO) when compared to the other models I've compared head to head for hours like DT770 and HD 272 HD(a bit more expensive, but MUCH better), and I haven't seen any more pricy closed cans from them either (I suspect there are none), so Sennheiser isn't really the brand for this niche.
Also, the HD280 PRO were flimsy, totally plastic, and overall CHEAP. So much for the best brand image. I've read a few user reviews on the net where people claim the hinges have broken after months of use, and that's not something I'd expect from brand headphones.
But I'm still saying that if you haven't heard other brands too much you shouldn't be recommending stuff, at the moment your headphone information seems a bit vague to be spewing out reviews, but yeah, if you tell what other headphones have you heard perhaps your argument gets more base.

why would a company suddenly feel like not making more money when the opportunity is there
