Mandriva>Ubuntu>Arch. Fuck I love Arch. Well really I just love being able to build my system the way I want it.
Amazingly, DWM is pretty easy to use.
It's light as heck, and efficient as a WM. Just the way I like it.
I was recently given two Dell Optiplex 320 computers (both missing their hdds) so i decided to install Ubuntu on them. After installing 10.04 (32-bit) i made sure my boot sequence was set correctly (Pata drive first), and tried to boot. Alas, Ubuntu failed to boot and the "No boot device avaliable. Press F1 to try again or F2 for setup" error popped up. Right now i am running off a live usb and am able to view my Hard Drive and it's partitions if that means anything... I am fairly new to Ubuntu/Linux and would greatly appreciate the help, thanks. c/p From UbuntuForums dell section.
Fixed, faulty IDE Cable.
Has anybody tried the new official release of Opera 10.60 for linux. It's fucking horrible... It's unstable and unreliable. Flash is even more broken on it. I need an alternative... Until they fix all this shit. I've grown tired of Firefox. I have chrome installed and it's ok-ish but it lacks a lot of featured opera has... Suggestions anyone?
How do I edit the list in grub of operating systems I have installed. Like it has ubuntu at the top, but I want it to auto countdown to windows instead of ubuntu.

It seems like my problem is related to flash... I guess I'll be using the HTML5 youtube beta. The problem is that it makes some videos in flash still... The problem is going to be videos on facepunch, I'll have to open a new tab every time.

About every plugin breaks. Flash (obviously), VLC, Java, etc. I did try the script but I had issue getting the right config for HTML5... I also tried using VLC and the entire tab froze. [editline]05:17PM[/editline] I removed the script and "installed" it again. I keeps the settings of the previous version which goes and starts the VLC plugin which freezes the browser. How do I clear its cache.
snip nevermind, pelase see http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?p=23113032 at the bottom.
How do I edit the list in grub of operating systems I have installed. Like it has ubuntu at the top, but I want it to auto countdown to windows instead of ubuntu.
Change the order in correspondence with the correct partitions.
No don't do that, there's a much better solution. Edit the following file (as root) /boot/grub/menu.lst (If it doesn't exist then you have to edit whatever file GRUB2 uses for its lists.) In there, you'll find a line that says "default 0". Change that 0 to the number of the entry you want.
Any way I can uninstall Ubuntu (I'm dual-booting), without using a CD/Flash drive?
It really simple. All you have to do is go in windows and delete the ubuntu partition. (If you right click on "My Computer" and go to manage then go to something about storage you'll be able to manage partitions.) Now, here's one very important thing. If you do delete the Ubuntu partition YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO BOOT INTO WINDOWS! By deleting the ubuntu partition you delete the contents of the /boot folder which is used at boot time by GRUB. To be able to boot in windows again you'll have to get a windows repair or install disk. Then you'll to boot from that CD and go to the command prompt. Then you should run fixboot or fixmbr. If that doesn't work try "bootrec /fixboot" or "bootrec /fixmbr". Once you're done doing that you can go back to the partition manager in windows and create a data partition with all of that new space. I think there's also a way to merge partitions but that will require a tool that you'll boot from a CD. If you used Wubi to install Ubuntu then it's a different story. You'll have to go to the Add/Remove Programs and remove it from there. There have been cases where that failed and corrupted the windows bootloader. If that does happen do the fixmbr/fixboot thing.
Any openSUSE fans around here? Version 11.3 is out in the next 9 days! :D Too bad KDE 4.4 comes out 2 weeks later and I'll have to upgrade KDE later on :/

I'm just updated to 4.4.5 today.

More downtime for one of the servers at work as co-workers attempt to update to 11.3 ... I never did get an answer to why we use openSUSE over CentOS on that box =/
Any way I can uninstall Ubuntu (I'm dual-booting), without using a CD/Flash drive?
I just saw in another post that you were using Wubi. Uninstalling is as simple as going to Add/Remove Programs in windows and removing ubuntu. If you do run into some trouble then you'll have to fix window's bootloader. The instructions are in my other post (about the windows repair/install disk).

Ugh, sounds like risky stuff. Can't do it now though, I don't have a windows disc. I'm planning on getting one sometime, so I will refer to your post then. Thanks for the help :)
Anyone know if there's finally support for MacBook7,1 in ANYTHING? Being without Linux makes me sad and I don't really want to use a VM...
At a glance, I'm pretty sure Ubuntu Lucid supports Macbook7,1. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBookPro7-1/Lucid [editline]10:56AM[/editline] Well, some of it anyway.
Sigh... the trackpad is missing multitouch. Looks like I've still gotta wait.
Sigh... the trackpad is missing multitouch. Looks like I've still gotta wait.
My Eee PC does multitouch in Linux. :smug:

When you do that kind of stuff there's always a chance that it goes horribly wrong.

I loved it ever since (I fell in love with KDE 3.5 back then :v:), it does everything I need to do and more. I still have much to learn, specially from the console. I was thinking, once I feel this distro gets small for my taste, I'll jump into Debian or OpenBSD
When any of you play a game while compiz or some other compositing manager is running, does it eventually freeze up the game (wine or not)? Every time I play Garry's Mod with wine running, it goes fine for a while, but then x.org freezes up completely and it looks like memory corruption.
Someone should write some kind of guide on how to fix common problems. It should be added to the stickied information thread. It could have some stuff like: -fixing Windows bootloader -Warnings for Wubi -A list of poorly supported cards (ATI, Broadcom, etc.) -etc. I might just write it but I'm not very good (at least that's my opinion) If you guys have any Ideas for that thread thingy post them here.
