I'm building a server for a class (I will use it afterwards). I wanted to go with CentOS 5.5. I've been reading the documentation and I'm not sure if I want to stick with CentOS. I need this server as an SVN server. I also want to put FTP and SSH on there. I looked at how to install CentOS with CLI only. It looks simple enough. What do you guys think? I also have to mention that the server is quite old. Runs x86 and SCSI. I'm not sure of what cards it has. It's been forever since I opened it up...

CentOS is amazing.
CentOS is amazing.
I still prefer Debian over RedHat.
I still prefer Debian over RedHat.
Your opinion is wrong.
Urgh, Arch is hanging at kernel_thread_helper+0x6/0x18 on my laptop i don't get it
How would I remove openVPN via putty from my VPS running centOS 5.5
yum remove openvpn-as I guess? I've no idea, just googled it.

What ftp server do yall use? I used pure-ftpd but it was a pain to set up and didn't play well with virtual users. I shouldn't have to use adduser just to add an ftp user.
Both the "burn" animation and the "paint fire on the screen" effect exist on my compiz installation (Arch, compiz-core 0.8.6-2).
-sinp- Turns out i needed to install the plugins: sudo apt-get install compiz-fusion-plugins-extra

I got a free 2GB USB stick this morning. I put a script on it (autorun.sh). The awesome thing is that when I insert my USB stick in my laptop and allow it to run the autorun script (clicking run) it starts making an incremental backup of my school documents. It's awesome because I can make a backup on my USB stick in less than 20 seconds this way. Plug in, press Run, wait a few seconds and unplug it when it says it's done (notification).
ubuntu to ditch gnome hmmm
I was just reading that, and I think it is a bad decision.
peeps don't like change, I reckon this'll upset the existing userbase
I could understand if they were switching to like, KDE or XFCE, but why unity? Supposedly it runs like shit anyway
Eew... Why would you use a shell for a desktop? Just keep it separate, like now with the separate desktop and netbook releases.
I don't get why they need to switch to something else, what was so terrible about GNOME?
It's still Gnome, just with a useless shell over it instead of a traditional desktop.
Wikipedia says GNOME shell and Compiz won't be compatible. I want my Compiz without breaking things
Hmmmm... Well, looks like I'm switching to a different distro. Unity is garbage.
So I downloaded Mint and burned it onto a CD without checking the requirements. As you may or may not recall, I posted earlier asking about a distro for a computer with 64MB of RAM. Mint 9 requires 256MB. Is there a distro that I can get that will be supported on now 80MB of RAM (I found a 16MB RAM stick) or am I stuck with trying to find 2 old-ass discontinued 128MB RAM sticks?
