FINALLY got it. I took "Listen 38999" out of httpd.conf, and changed sites-enabled/000-default to "192.168.1.132:38999" Thank you all for your time! <3
okay somehow PID 1 got killed on this server i'm working on from previous experience of screwing around killing parent process ids a while ago with older kernels it caused mega instability then crash. this server has had the PID killed, but it still hammers on, load average rising constantly though. running 2.4.21-138-smp 12:48:13 up 4:22, 335 users, load average: 54.63, 50.90, 41.5 12:51:21 up 4:25, 335 users, load average: 59.65, 54.44, 44.58 12:53:00 up 4:27, 335 users, load average: 61.07, 56.39, 46.28 [editline]26th November 2010[/editline] 13:22:28 up 4:57, 278 users, load average: 95.64, 90.03, 78.16 lol [editline]26th November 2010[/editline] 13:31:07 up 5:05, 171 users, load average: 101.35, 97.86, 87.00 i think someone learned the hard way why NOT to fat finger commands as root
I currently have ubuntu installed on a separate partition so I still run Windows as well. My only problem is that my Broadcom wireless card doesn't work with it. Any solutions? I'm also considering replacing Ubuntu with Mint, but I'm still a pretty big Linux noob, so I'm not sure which is better.
What's a good terminal based irc client?
What's a good terminal based irc client?
irssi or bitchx
bitchx
I do admit that is a rather odd name for an IRC client. Edit: Yay 2.6.36-arch is out! Jolly good!
bitchx
You can't be serious...right?
My laptop is way faster since the update. I would swear the 200-line speed update is in it. It's running 2.6.36.1-3. Arch version. Is the 200-line update in there?

so I've been doing some reading. It looks like less is more than more :v:
irssi or bitchx
irssi is godlike. I use it every day.
Seconding irssi
My GRUB install seems to have gone tits up after an update (I really should stop relying on that piece of ass Ubunutu updater). When I chainload into it from the Win7 bootloader I get a rapidly flashing horizontal cursor in the top left of my screen. I have Google it but had trouble finding a solution that has anything to do with how it seems to have been caused. I assume a simple re-install of the loader into /boot should fix it/ help me find out it that was the problem.
I just installed Arch successfully for the first time on my old desktop with a Celeron @ 1.7ghz, 256mb ram and integrated graphics and I'm not entirely sure what I should do now that I have a base system installed. Sure, I could get Xorg and Gnome set up and get everything working more easily, but I want something that will perform better than Gnome. I don't know how to set up Xorg (though I could probably look up how to do this) and I don't know much about other desktop environments or window managers, and what I need, so I'm open for suggestions (and helpful tips on how to install these).
I wish I could install arch easily :saddowns: My wireless adapter would be a major kick in the balls, and I don't think I can run any kind of cable to my PC as my router is the other side of the house with about 4 walls between us. Fun.

How do I update the Kernel in Arch?
I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure you'd have to compile the kernel yourself amongst a few other steps.
How do I update the Kernel in Arch?
Sudo pacman -Syyu has the latest kernel in it. Released yesterday or today. Hey guys, look at THIS It says Arch updated the kernel to 2.6.36.1-3 Two days and 13 hours ago. How big is the chance that the 200 line speed optimisation is in there?
I've been wanting to spoof my MAC address on my Wifi card the past 2 days. I already knew how to do it but not during boot time. The Arch Wiki proposed to edit rc.multi and add the commands to change the mac address there. I really didn't like that method. So I decided to write a daemon script that changes you mac address it can do predefined and random. It can also do multiple interfaces easily. It's pretty much working now. Would you guys be interested in me posting this script?
What distro should I dual boot with Windows 7? (Mint looks nice :3)
It makes no difference, pick one randomly. Basically choose the one that looks like it suits you the most and don't be shocked if you decide you don't like it. I change distro far far far too often.
You can't be serious...right?
I like it because it's compatible with ircii scripts but looks a lot nicer
I like it because it's compatible with ircii scripts but looks a lot nicer
I was more referring to the fact that it's actually named bitchx.
Whats wrong with naming it bitchx?
Whats wrong with naming it bitchx?
Nothing :smug: I guess because software developers don't tend to swear in the titles of their applications.
Whats wrong with naming it bitchx?
It just sounds wrong.

Finally got Ubuntu fixed after and hour of pure pain getting some semblance of drivers for my GPU. Why do nVidia have to make their driver so akward to install at times. it wouldn't show up on Synaptic or the Hardware Drivers application. Ughh, I think something went horribly wrong either way, And my wireless driver decided to uninstall itself when i booted it up after fixing GRUB. Oh well, at least I can get back to learning Linux.
Somehow installed Ubuntu instead of Mint. Is still great though :P
:raise: Okay, now how the fuck did you do that?
Wubi. Hah! Not the best way to get Linux going really.
