Problem is, I don't have a .inf file with it.
I'm not a Windows expert in terms of drivers. Here's you have two possibilities. Windows could still keep that .inf file somewhere for whatever crazy reason.
The other option is to download the drivers from the manufacturer and then these should contain the .inf file and .sys file. Those files may be stored in a .cab file which can be extracted. (Don't remember 100% ask google)
with gcon-editor you should be able to remove the panels next time :P
gconf-editor* :).
Just incase someone doesn't understand why it doesn't work.
Just a question with dual booting. I already have Ubuntu 32 bit installed, if I pop in a disk with 64 bit Ubuntu, I could install it on another partition/(same drive?) and choose between the two on startup right?
The short answer is yes. I however i like to set everything up beforehand as far as partitions are concerned instead of adding them on an as-needed basis to avoid problems.

If you don't already have an empty partition reserved for that you'll have to resize a partition to make some space.
The answer is Yes.

I'll see if I can find it somewhere, is CNET still having problems with the downloads?

I know the .sys is the driver but what does the .inf do?
I'm bashing my head in trying to get Maya to install, I have a separate boot with 64 bit Ubantu but every time I try and install it, getting the installer running I get hit with a error telling me to use "--force-debian switch" but when I try and use it, it doesn't seem to do anything or gives me some "unknown command" error.

By using the --force-debian switch they mean
./setup --force-debian
FYI, a switch is an argument to a command.

IIRC, the .inf file is the set of instructions for installing the driver. I think there's more to it than that but that's what ndiswrapper uses as instructions.

I have to use
sudo ./setup --force-debian
to get it to work, which it then just spits out the same error that I first had.
Did you cd to where the setup file was?
Did you cd to where the setup file was?
Yes, I've been doing that every time.
What's the error?

This is what I'm getting:

Install the alien package I guess.
It sounds like it wants some program called alien. Also, is this an .rpm file? I am pretty sure that Ubuntu uses .deb's and .rpm's are for Fedora and Madriva and SUSE. I don't know if they work on Ubuntu. I could be wrong.
alien is a program that allows you to install rpm packages on debian systems, it's pretty good to have, even if you don't need it.
Installed Alien, nothing changed I'm getting the exact same error.
sudo alien -k name-of-rpm-file.rpm
sudo dpkg -i name-of-deb-file.deb
run that in the terminal
Hi there facepunch! I just got linux mint running on my lap-top!
So far i've installed wine. Can someone guide me to using it to play age of empires 2?
And also, do you guys know of any good docks for linux?
Thanks in advance!
You need to run the install using wine, insert the CD (if you have one, if not, run the setup.exe file that you have in any case). Then when the installer is finished, you will just run the .exe you end up with. Just like in Windows really.
A good dock is "Docky". It should be in the Mint repositories.
sudo apt-get install docky
yeah that looks like a proper .inf file
there isn't much you can do to turn one into malware

sudo alien -k name-of-rpm-file.rpm
sudo dpkg -i name-of-deb-file.deb
run that in the terminal
And it didn't work, I'm just going to install windows or something, this is falling into the relm of "I don't have time for this". Thanks for all the help you two.
Ndiswrapper didn't accept it. :sigh:
My dads netbook got a virus and I told him it might be a good idea to switch to linux. After explaining to him what linux is and the benefits he actually agrees with me. This is a pretty awesome day for me.

My dad tried Linux too, but he had a shockwave application that he really needed, and it didn't work on Linux. Not even on wine.
I have a problem, when i use commands with "sudo" it asks super user password, but when i try to type it in nothing happens, when i press enter it says wrong password. What's the problem?

Type in the password, it does get entered but it doesn't show anything for security reasons.
I moved to linux a few days ago, mainly because my main rig died and windows just shits all over my intel atom board.
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, and have a question about the ubuntu software centre. The last time I used ubuntu was last year, and the software centre was well laid out with ratings and features of the like. But now Searching for popular applications seems so much harder, as there's little to no description about how good a program is.
I was trying to find a decent programming application, and ended up just using one called Geany. Is there something wrong with the software centre, or plans on it getting changed to find high rating applications?
Another question, in the folder browser, is it possible to show hidden files/folders? An example of a hidden folder is home/jsharpe/.mozilla/ which I have to manually type out in the top bar to access it, would be easier to have it as a listed folder.
