For those who are wondering about linux for their desktops, if you are on the go a lot, the little power you save from LXDE (lubuntu) may be worth it.
Or openbox. Note though that openbox is harder to set up than GNOME or KDE. You need to edit all the config files yourself. I'm sure it would disappoint new Linux users.
Or you could use hey0.
He said a minecraft server, not a minecraft server with hey0's. It's still as easy as what I said, just have to download hey0's, unpack and start with minecraft_mod instead of minecraft_server

I can't find it in my router control panel.
Probably somewhere in firewall settings. Open Google, type in router model and add "port forwarding" to the search, press enter.
Ok, Typed it all in now I just have to test it.
I'm interested as well, we're shoving a PC in a ceiling and would like to connect to it from outside the network.
I don't see why you couldn't just log into your router and forward port 22 to your ceiling cat PC.
How do I define a root file in Ubuntu? I installed it, and when I booted it, before I could login it said "No root file system is defined. Please correct this from the partioning menu." There was no partioning menu anywhere. What do I do?

WHEN IN THE GOD-DAMN FUCK IS GIMP 2.8 STABLE GOING TO BE RELEASED!!!1!1one!1eleven??? :argh: I'm so fucking sick of Gimp 2.7.3 not defaulting to Single-window mode when I restart it... it's pissing me off! Gimp 2.8 stable should have been released on December 27th, 2010. (Source) I've been suffering with using 2.7.1 and 2.7.3 dev snapshots, and the release date just never seems to happen... Gimp development is slower than HL2 Episode three for fuck's sake.

Trying to install arch on an old server I have, It's a HP DL380 G3. Not really that good with raid but it's set up as two 36.4GB disks in raid 0. When I try to apply the changes to the harddrive during the arch install I get this.
Warning: Could not create all needed filesystems. Either the underlying blockdevices didn't become available in 10 iterations, or process_filesystem failed.
never had to deal with a raid array before so I'm stumped
Are you setting up hardware or software raid? If you're setting up software raid go with LVM instead of software raid.
hardware raid
After a bit of googling it seems like it's a AIF specific error. Try to see if you can partition and format manually to see if it's the array failing not allowing you to write or what not or just the installer going retarded or something else...
one of the drives could be dead/dying which would cause the error

Fire up your liveCD and look up the partition editor (Should be under System->Administration) . Look for a partition mounted to "/" If not, find the partition that contains folders like etc, bin, mnt, sys, boot set that to mount to "/".
This has been annoying me since I have Linux: I can't run two programs that use sound simultaneously. If I do (for example open chromium with youtube and VLC player). The sound of the program that started last doesn't work. Now I do have pulseaudio installed, but the problem stays when I killall pulseaudio. How to fix? My sound card is Realtek ALC272. Edit: I removed alsa-oss. Now I can hear my pidgin sounds while listening to VLC (which I set to alsa). But VLC and chromium still won't play sounds simultaneously. So the problem still exists. I think I can solve it by setting Alsa as the default sound mixer. But how would I do that for chromium? There's no sound settings in chromium. P.S. I'm running openbox. Now if I play a youtube video on chromium and start VLC this error appears:
VLC failed to initialize your sound output device (if any). Please update alsa-lib to version 1.0.23-2-g8d80d5f or higher to try to fix this issue.
The problem is immediately solved, and sound works again when the tab that plays the youtube video is closed.
Can anyone recommend a Linux-compatible Wlan Card / Stick?
In my experience, anything with an Atheros chipset works out of the box.
