I've been trying to make a good conky setup to my liking, but something isn't working. If I set xftalpha, it works until the font changes at any time during the TEXT area. Could someone please explain what to do? Here's my current .conkyrc:
background no use_xft yes xftfont Antipasto:size=30 xftalpha 0.7 update_interval 0.5 total_run_times 0 own_window no own_window_transparent yes own_window_hints undecorated,below,sticky,skip_taskbar,skip_pager double_buffer yes minimum_size 250 5 maximum_width 1366 draw_shades no draw_outline no draw_borders no draw_graph_borders no default_color gray default_shade_color red default_outline_color green alignment bottom_left gap_x 40 gap_y 10 no_buffers yes uppercase no cpu_avg_samples 2 net_avg_samples 1 override_utf8_locale no use_spacer yes TEXT ${color black}${time %A %d %B} Battery: ${battery_percent} ${font Antipasto:size=200}${time %H:%M}
updating my 9.04 ubuntu install feels good to be back
Does anyone know the fonts used in Mac OSX, the Ubuntu font is annoying me right now.
I don't think it's a matter of fonts as it is font smoothing: This is default Facepunch font with Apple-style font smoothing.
I'd post this in CIPWTTKT but I don't want to get laughed at. I'm almost completely sure it's a fuckup on my end. I was screwing around in Openbox for my 3rd or so time yesterday (complete linux noob here), playing with tint2 and such, when all of a sudden everything froze. "Not to worry, rebooting fixes everything!" I thought, so I just turned the thing off, waited a few minutes, and turned it back on. It showed the HP splash screen (this was on one of my laptops), but it never got to the ubuntu splash like it normally does. I've now tried to reboot about 12 times and nothings happening. Luckily I accidentally ordered a 10.10 boot cd awhile ago and just got it yesterday, and there was nothing important on there, but I'm still pretty sure I screwed something up real bad.
I understand that different distros use different package management systems like DEB, RPM, Pacman. What are the main differences between these and are there more?

It looks neat at first but there's something that bugs me about it, guess other people are the same.
I really need my netbook to be back alive. It's so laggy on a VM on my desktop (it has shit specs). I tried to install arch. Got to finishing putting on alsa, then said fuck it and ran the command "rm -rfv /*".
I got myself a VPS to host some stuff like a Minecraft server. I managed to install Java but now I get this "Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap Could not create the Java virtual machine." When I try to run any Java related command. I have 512 MB of dedicated RAM and it's running CentOS 5.2. How can I fix this shit?

Yikes, I looked at that Ubuntu font; it looks hideous for any sort of prolonged desktop use. [editline][/editline] Minecraft servers usually need 1GB minimum as a baseline.
Hey guys in openbox it was easy to make a keybind ALT + middle click to close any window. I switched back to gnome (I fucked openbox and I long for compiz). How do I make a keybind to close the window under my mouse? Just an end command, not a terminate command (not a force quit)
Oh well, I think I found my solution. I still have to try it, I'll report back if it works. http://www.developer.com/java/other/article.php/3697421/Limiting-JVM-on-VPS-Virtual-Private-Server.htm if anyone wanted to know.
Man I just set up almost all my email and social networking shit in Ubuntu and I didn't need to install 40 different messaging clients. I love you Ubuntu.
So I'm using a really old computer caseless since my "real" computer is temporarily out of commission, and after trying a few different distros I decided to install Arch. Arch was a bit too advanced for me. I guess I should still consider myself a Linux newbie. However, I installed Debian with LXDE, and everything seems to be working pretty smoothly. At first the computer would freeze if I tried opening a web browser, but I have since installed the old video card I used to use with it (I thought it had something to do with there being too little ram between the integrated video and the OS) and that problem seems to have vanished since I'm posting this. I don't quite fully understand package installation (No Synaptic GUI, have to use the terminal), but I think I'm getting a better understanding of it. Now if only Chrome and Iceweasel would stop quitting for no reason.
Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone knew how to properly set up x.org with a full touchpad mouse. My Dell Mini has one and I was thinking of switching to a KISS/Purist system(As I prefer, getting tired of having to deal with ubuntu.) like arch or a standard debian install but whenever I tried it as soon as I get into an x.org interface my mouse starts to screw with me, almost as if it's the kid on the short bus. Basically I need to shorten my mouses conductive/sensitive area properly like ubuntu does by default. I hated having to configure the synaptics/alps touchpad settings. It was horrible, and one of the reasons I moved to ubuntu after being an ardent gentoo and arch user.
I hated having to configure the synaptics/alps touchpad settings. It was horrible, and one of the reasons I moved to ubuntu after being an ardent gentoo and arch user.
It's alright, I actually figured out how to properly use the xorg.conf file. Derp :v:
There are actually programs that allow you to tweak the settings more easily.

But can't you run it off a flash drive?
But can't you run it off a flash drive?
You have to install it, you can't just put the ISO on it.
How would i do this?
How would i do this?
If you're using linux, use dd. If you're using windows, use UNetbootin.
Thanks ill try this.
I wanted to try out ubuntu, but i didn't want to lose Windows 7. Problem is i have no idea how to do that, i tried to use the windows installer on the ubuntu site but it just tells me it cant find a Device/harddrive/dr(#4 to 7 here) I downloaded the Ubuntu ISO and mounted it and it says it can't find it Teach me how to do this, i feel dumb for not being able to install a os correctly :saddowns:

Plus the current windows bootloader is dangerous to use with wubi, it'll most likely corrupt your boot file. Which isn't all bad if you got a recovery disk but not great. If you don't end up liking it, it's really easy to get rid of. All you have to do is boot into windows, delete the ubuntu partition from computer management and expand the windows partition back. Then just restore the MBR with bootsect or another tool and it's like it never happened.
