Anyone here knows how to change the box for the login screen in Ubuntu 10.10?
What's a good text editor that supports most formats and is easy to configure? Gedit doesn't let me compare code side-by-side, while SciTE is... interesting, at best. Preferably, I'd like it to be GTK, but I'm fine with using QT applications.

Leafpad.
Leafpad is nice, but it's not really what I want from an editor. I'm looking for something similar to Notepad++; hopefully, there's something else other than SciTE!
Sublime Text 2 has a linux build. It's really, really nice.

I use oftenly use gEdit, and I enjoy it. Once you get it set up to your liking, and maybe install some plugins, or whatnot, it is a nice editor to work in.
I can't get Oblivion to work properly with Wine. (Ubuntu 11.04)
I first installed it using PlayOnLinux, but I kept reading a lot about using Wine instead of PoL, so I uninstalled POL and Oblivion, installed Wine, and then Oblivion using Wine. My problem is that I have no sound in Oblivion. The only time I get sound is with the launcher and with the intro "videos" of the company name + engine, etc. Anyone know what's up?
Hi guys,
I want to install Cent OS on a quite old AMD Athlon 64 3000+ computer. I want to know if the 64bit version is good to go, or will it break compatiblity with a lot of programs, and that I rather use 32bit instead.
The tasks are going to be:
- Gmod server
- Mailserver
Thanks.

64-bit won't cause any problems.

Gvim.
Sublime Text 2 is more or less what I was looking for! Thanks!
I'm new to Linux, so I need a bit of help. My screen resolution is stuck 800x600 and I am using a Nvidea card. Can somebody give me a nice step by step tutorial(Pictures help) on how to get it to 1440x900.
Thanks :buddy:
How would I be able set a static IP address to my box connecting through wifi using wpa_supplicant and netcfg?
BTW, I'm using Arch.
Would setting the static IP in /etc/rc.conf do it?
I know that netcfg calls dhcpcd automatically. I guess I need to prevent it from doing that.
[editline]27th March 2011[/editline]
I'm an idiot. It's possible through the network profiles netcfg uses.
[editline]27th March 2011[/editline]
I was setting up iptables and everything seems to work properly. The netcfg thing works as well. I feel like the king of firewalls.
Is there some good extensive documentation for iptables rules. I'd love to learn about certain more useful things.

I use sublime text 2 too, it's awesome!
I installed the Fedora 15 alpha, and I can't upgrade. So I went to the terminal and got this:

You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest[/code]
Neither suggestion works and I can't find anything on this in the Fedora package website, wiki, or forums, or even Google. It absolutely refuses to perform the update after this.
Is there some sort of editable launcher for AWN? Like a list where you can add shortcuts and launchers.

You mean the properties option that comes up when you right-click any icon?

Somewhat like the 'File Browser Launcher', but with editable shortcuts.

This is why I will never use Fedora Rawhide again.
Could someone please please PLEASE help me out with Oblivion and Wine/PlayOnLinux. No matter what I do the game never has any sound. I need a fresh start with Wine and/or PlayOnLinux, and a step by step guide, because I hate it when shit that's supposed to work doesn't.

I think I had to change the sound drivers.
Found this yesterday..

Anyone have any experience/feedback? I am thinking about trying it.
Here's a quick question. I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 on my netbook, Acer Aspire One (Model: AOD255). What sort of hoops do I have to jump through to get the SD card slot working?
My usual Googlefu isn't helping me.

You can try. It's just Ubuntu with more apps.

Yeah, I tried both of those. Nothing looked very SD-related to me.

I'm starting to see what my dad has against it.
[QUOTE=WeltEnSTurm;28806115]Any chance to connect it via wire and check for additional drivers?[/QUOTE]
Tried it, wanted me to do it manually from the intel site, which is a total bitch.
So I ended up trying a older kernel on the boot menu and it somehow worked. Don't know why, but I am not complaining.

I use it, it is basically the same thing with more programs and a pretty theme.
Though I have found media also tends to work out of the box for the most part.

Fedora is a really nice distro, but the alpha/beta versions are horrible.

Completely agree. I put the release version on my laptop, but I'll never run the beta versions on it.
You get like 100 updates per day, and you're lucky if you can boot up again.
