Here's your problem, most likely.
There should be most probably a way to get it working. Lemme do a bit of research.

We'll need to see if the driver is installed. If it is, it'll need the firmware.
Run:
dmesg | grep -i firmware
It should tell us if a module is requesting firmware.
Tried that command and It did nothing
Should I just post the dmesg despite it being long?
I'll try to build Gnome 3 for Linux Mint 10 now. (http://www.webupd8.org/2010/10/install-gnome-shell-from-git-in-ubuntu.html)
Wish me luck! :v:
From what I see your chipset (BCM4313) isn't supported by the b43 and the b43legacy drivers. It is supported by the new opensource driver Broadcom release. The problem is that this driver is not in the current kernel yet.
From what I'm reading, you'll need to download the driver module source and compile it yourself. You'll also need to download the appropriate firmware for the driver and dump them in the proper firmware folder.
There is a guide on the ubuntu forums that does a good amount of explaining. I don't know how old it is tho.

There might be some problems with compiling the driver. Read the first part of the post. It's a bit of an update.
The driver is also part of 2.6.38 but needs to be enabled in make menuconfig
Location: -> Device Drivers
-> Staging drivers
-> Exclude Staging drivers from being built
-> Broadcom IEEE802.11n WLAN drivers
-> Broadcom IEEE802.11n driver style
You'll need to manually compile the driver. I suggest you follow the guide I posted (ubuntu forums).
Thanks, you've helped out a lot, hopefully it works when I try it tomorrow.
My pleasure, hope it works.
On another note, why is arch still on 2.6.27.5?

2.6.38 is in testing right now, should be moved to core soon.
Oh! I just did a doubletake when seeing Boris-B's comment. I'm on 2.6.38, because I have testing enabled - of course, kernel26-mainline is always an option (they're on 2.6.39-rc1-r2 afaik)

It's taking too long.
Is it possible to use Skype in Emapthy?

Ubuntu Natty is taking too long as well.
Is it possible to specify where an rpm is installed? Sort of like using --prefix when configuring something?
For you programmers out there: how do you decide what to make, and where do you get your motivation from?
I have a question about Environment variable and Openbox.
I have been having a problem for a while with Qt where applications would look like horse shit and not using my GTK theme.
The solution was to export this environment variable.
export GTK2_RC_FILES="$HOME/.gtkrc-2.0"
I put this is my bashrc file (/etc/bash.bashrc to be specific)
It works perfectly well if I call it from the terminal where the bashrc is sourced automatically. If I open it from some other place like my openbox menu or even from dmenu. This seems to be a similar issue with by $_JAVA_HOME variable as well.
Would it work if I put it in ~/.config/openbox/autostart.sh ?

For me, I make stuff that I need, want or am interested in. And I get my motivation from liking to program :|.

I think so, it's worth a try.
I tired it today on my laptop and it works.
If I updated the kernel with yum is there an easy way to recompile it? I need to up the file descriptor limit for my centos install. Like can I just install kernel-devel and then recompile it with that?
make && make modules install
cp -v arch/(your_cpu_arch_here)/boot/bzImage /boot/kernel-(kernel version+name)
?
It's nice that this Subforum is actually nice to us Linux users. All over forums contain Windows elitists.
So, i just took my first plunge into Debian. I did all sorts of stuff like configuring SSH and Samba and the like. I was wondering though, how would i connect to Samba outside of my local network? Would i just use a program like PuTTy, punch in the WAN IP address my ISP gives me and port forward the appropriate ports to the server?
I would like to use a program with another GTK theme.
Setting GTK2_RC_FILES works well, but the set theme uses the colors that are given in the 'customize' tab of the current theme. Is there a way to change that?
It appears Gnome 3 is officially out.
http://www.gnome3.org/index.html
:buddy:
It should be appearing in every major upstream distros' repositories soon. (Except probably Ubuntu since they seem to be obsessed with that shitpile called Unity.)
No more compiling from source, huzzah!

I hope the Linux Mint team doesn't fuck around too long D: (Or that the ubuntu repository one works)
I'm hopefully that Gnome 3 turns out to be successful.
I know KDE received lots of criticism for innovating, but it seems great to me now.
I think I'll give Gnome 3 a try tonight.
I'll give it a try if I can figure out how to change the default type before I go to bed. Damn things are too damned wide.
Just tried Gnome 3 on Arch. IMO it's really bad. Seriously, whose idea was it not to make the panel customizable? I went through the trouble of downgrading half of my system and it was worth it. I'm keeping Gnome 2.32 as my DE until further notice.
On another topic, why are fonts becoming bold in firefox when I control+mousewheel? I'd rather have the fonts "Thicken" relative to the size like windows, and bold fonts everywhere in FP don't look nice.
I don't see what people hate about Gnome 3. Yeah, it's a bit...different from the good 'ol Gnome panel, but it certainly feels more efficient to use, even on a proper desktop. (to me, anyway) I love how many of the default Gnome applications integrated into the Shell, it's a very nifty feature.
Does anybody know if something bad will happen if I install from the default Gnome 3 PPA? :v:

thanks for promising a notice
we really needed to know
Knoppix 6.4.4 is available from their site but I have Knoppix 6.5 on a disc.
Wondering if I should image it and upload somewhere.
I got it with Linux Magazine, it says "Knoppix 6.5 Exclusive" all over the damn thing.
