Gentoo can suck it, who cares if you can compile each aspect of the OS, unless you are a tinfoil hat nutjob about security, then most mainstream linux is fine, just not centos
linux from scratch is best

Only if you're on 32-bit. x86-64 master race :c00lbert:
General question: is there any way to run anything fullscreen at non-native/4:3 resolutions on a TV that doesn't report EDID data? My screen just goes black with a "Mode not available" message if I set the resolution on anything other than 1920x1080 and 4:3 resolutions up to 1280x1024, at which point I have to control+alt+f1 and terminate any offending programs, even though I can set any resolution between 640x480 and 1920x1080 in windows :argh:
I'm using the restricted nvidia drivers, version 270.26. I think it might have something to do with the X server not scaling the image to 1920x1080.

Don't be so smug, you only have 292,277,024,585 years until the 64-bit Unix Millennium Problem.

Every weekend I tell myself, I'll setup Linux proper on my laptop.
It's Monday now, 3:45am. I didn't even open my laptop.
Maybe next weekend.

What kernel version has the open source Broadcom wireless drivers in it? Or are they in yet?

I am new to Linux, and I just installed Ubuntu on another pc, but it seems that I can't get it to boot into Ubuntu.
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)
Any ideas on what to do?
I guess this is the right place to ask.
I'm trying to get Ubuntu on my Android phone using “chroot”.
There's this tutorial:

It says that I can resize the image with "uec-resize-image", so I installed Ubuntu 10.10 in VirtualBox.
But I keep getting this:
