Did you take all the files from the ISO (extract or smtg) and then burn these files or did you burn the image.
IIRC when you an image it copies the entire image (the files and the other stuff) the other stuff being the boot sector(?) which is used to boot the cd.
I have a EAH3450 card and I'm a tad confused on what driver to install.

It won't load on boot. I set it to load the CD as a priority and when i save and quit and boot it up again, It just continues and loads up windows. It won't work at all. At this point I'm tempted to just use Wubi.

Try tapping F10 at boot and select CDROM, because you're setting the wrong options in bios.
I don't think F10 is a option on my computer, It's different sometimes but I will try.

Didn't work, did everything I could, pretty much made it force it to load and it didn't work, also tried making it load the cd only and not my hard drive and it just gave me a bunch of text and if I press any button it will just repeat itself. At this point I'm just going to use Wubi and deal with it. I'll try network install but if that doesn't work I'm just gonna use wubi.

Got it working, it's currently installing right now and I'm using my iPod to talk. I was burning it wrong the whole time. But now it's working.

K, posting in ubuntu, everything went smoothly. But one more question, how to I boot up Vista? Is it the windows recovery option on startup?
if you used the ubuntu cd, did you choose to install ubuntu alongside windows?
Yes.
then you should be given the choice between ubuntu and windows on boot
Ok. I haven't restarted yet so i was just asking, incase i needed to do some tweaking or something.

Install xf86-video-ati (the radeon driver). The guide is a bit out of date because the HD2000 through HD4000 all support 3D now. Only the HD5000's do not.
radeonhd is more or less dead, and catalyst is pure crap.
Hey, gmod has Linux binaries included right, or do you need to download them. I think Garry said on his blog that they ship with them.

afaik only the server binaries are out
Oh ok, but are the binaries to play it on linux coming?
not until Steam is out on Linux (which iirc is supposed to be by the end of this summer). For now, Wine works pretty well for Source games.
Haven't used wine for source yet, still downloading for Linux. Any way to share your game files with Linux instead of having to install them all over again?
If you already have the GFCs you can copy them over. (shortens you download)
Ok I'll do that, but I meant like a way to not have to download them again like share the windows files but that works too. Just can't wait for a real port.
a friend of mine working in a store undergoing liquidation sold me this neat 1TB Western Digital NAS, been playing with it quite a bit, runs Busybox Linux , turns out there's a bunch of handy optware packages, so I've been having a bit of a play here and there.
the only kicker is the compile time for everything :v:
is looooooong
got this stuff working
snmpd (for cacti :)) - compiling snmpd took around 2.5 hours
gkrellmd (even though its counterpart is ugly)
rtorrent
cifs
bacula

Build yourself a cross compiling toolchain if you plan on playing around alot. Will save hours over building everything on the device.
fortunately for me there's an Gumstix optware package that works on this thing :)
Whats the difference between ubuntu and xubuntu, besides that ubuntu uses gnome and xubuntu uses xfce. If it more lightweight and faster?

That's the only difference really. I honestly prefer Lubuntu, it uses the LXDE management system.

:flashfap:
Is it any faster?
If you have a low end computer you will see a difference. LDXE and XFCE are much more lightweight so less resources will be used.
Ok but on a modern day computer i won't see a big difference?
Ok but on a modern day computer i won't see a big difference?
No.
At least I haven't.

Depends how modern.
You might notice some speed differences on more recent hardware.
It's nice to not use a ton of memory and processing power for a desktop environment though.
So just go with Xubuntu.

Lubuntu is still more lightweight :/.
Can't you stop brapping about Lubuntu? :v:
