Sorry for late reply.
Do "which ls" and "which less" and it will tell you what file is being executed when you run those commands.

arvid@hal9000:~$ which ls /bin/ls arvid@hal9000:~$ which less /usr/bin/less

Do you get these results running "ls" by itself? How about if you pipe something else into "less" instead? If you run "file /usr/bin/less", what does it say?
No, just ls works fine. Same result whatever i pipe.
arvid@hal9000:~$ file /usr/bin/less /usr/bin/less: symbolic link to `/bin/less' arvid@hal9000:~$ file /bin/less /bin/less: ASCII text
I opened less with gedit. It contains what looks like a list of all acceptable commands (output of help or something). It seems like i have, at some point, typed command > less. Derp. I guess this is why you need to be careful when using root... Anyway, this means that i need a copy of /bin/less. Anyone care to paste or give me a link? Also, I feel like I have wasted your time with my incompetence and thoughtlessness. I'd like to apologize for that.
Anyone super familiar working with Awesome widgets? I can't fucking figure out how to properly set a battery monitor widget up in rc.lua.
Anyway, this means that i need a copy of /bin/less. Anyone care to paste or give me a link?
apt-get install --reinstall less It'd also be a good idea to install the "debsums" package (assuming it's available in Ubuntu like it is in Debian; I haven't checked). That stores MD5 hashes of all the files installed by packages, so they can be checked for modifications later.
this is awesome
They put hello.c into the home directory but you don't even get a compiler?
They put hello.c into the home directory but you don't even get a compiler?
It has tcc
It has tcc
Yeah, but there's no cc symlink. It's not like which tcc is the first thing you do, especially since most people are used to using clang or gcc. [editline]17th May 2011[/editline] Actually maybe someone should email the author and ask him if he could put a cc symlink in for convenience? [editline]17th May 2011[/editline] Or maybe a default profile file that does export CC=tcc

Not surprised to see this thread full of Firefox and Chrome-users.
Try looking at the source, it explains how to compile it.
Oh. Well. I just made me a nonprivileged account immediately anyway :v: [editline]17th May 2011[/editline]
Not surprised to see this thread full of Firefox and Chrome-users.
What do you mean specifically here?
Not surprised to see this thread full of Firefox and Chrome-users.
I'm sure most of us installed internet explorer on linux.
I'm sure most of us installed internet explorer on linux.
Doesn't Wine Internet Explorer fake the IE user-agent string, by the way? :3:
Not surprised to see this thread full of Firefox and Chrome-users.
you mean this forum? very few people use here use IE, and Opera is cross platform and not all that popular on either platform anyway
As a new linux user, should I get Fedora or OpenSUSE? I tried Ubuntu but I just didn't like it for some reason.
I'm say OpenSUSE. If you want a third choice for for Mint. [editline]17th May 2011[/editline] I also would love some help if anyone knows how to properly set widgets up in Awesome. I cannot fucking figure it out.
Not surprised to see this thread full of Firefox and Chrome-users.
Okay? Isn't that a given?
I'd suggest opensuse against fedora. I think that arch would be a fine next step afterwards.
Not surprised to see this thread full of Firefox and Chrome-users.
maybe you could embed a hidden image in your post and get the stats yourself :v:
maybe you could embed a hidden image in your post and get the stats yourself :v:
well that's certainly not necessary anymore lol [editline]18th May 2011[/editline] linux (unidentifyable)
Not surprised to see this thread full of Firefox and Chrome-users.
Oddly, not everybody seem to use linux.
why is it odd
Not surprised to see this thread full of Firefox and Chrome-users.
Chromium*
The linux icon doesn't say what distribution :(
I found out why my wireless was being slow, apparently the ath9k driver included with the kernel is a load of shit so I followed this to install a later version: http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Download#Download_latest_Linux_wireless_drivers Reboot, kernel panic, balls fuck. EDIT: Back in, I removed the driver, that was an exciting first experience Found the solution at last: http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=62979
I've been fighting a little bit with Debian 6 to get 3D working properly. After purging xorg several times and reinstalling Debian a few times, I figured out that I didn't have firmware-linux-nonfree installed...
The linux icon doesn't say what distribution :(
Messing around with my user agent. [editline]18th May 2011[/editline] Nope that didn't do anything.
Messing around with my user agent. [editline]18th May 2011[/editline] Nope that didn't do anything.
changed my user agent and now it's broken, oh well
How do I extract a .mdf file without using mount as mounting does not work on OpenVZ. Unrar returns "This is not a rar file" so that wont work either. My provider won't help me with this either,
Mounting is not allowed on openvz, you need Xen VPS. Cheers, Joe S
But that isnt a option here.
.mdf is a proprietary CD/DVD image format. Your best bet would be to find a program to convert it to a conventional .iso file, because some archiving tools can extract those. I don't know of anything that supports .mdf other than Alcohol 120% (on Windows) though.
