Op's problem is not that he needs a new mouse, but that his mouse is broken. Therefore I suggest a mouse that can not break. The apple magic mouse No scroll wheels that can pop of the mouse, no annoying clickity sounds when you press a mouse button.
Those mice are awful to use when you're used to having tactile feedback. Besides, I've been using my MX518 for 5 years and it still works perfectly. I also have a standard Microsoft optical mouse that has been working perfectly for about 10 years.
+1 for the G500. I just brought mine and I'm loving it.
I'm using 1800 here, and I completely disagree.
2225 DPI here, anything less feels like enernity dragging along my screen.
G500, MX518 or the Razer Deathadder. They're all on the same level as far as specs go, it's mostly a comfort and style choice beyond that.
Its only 800 Dpi
The #1 choice for competetive FPS players just a few years back was the MS IE 3.0 (and it's still one of the top ones along with some razer thing), which runs at 450dpi and is the best mouse I've ever used. DPI is a ridiculous marketing scam, laser mice still track like shit compared to optical mice, and all so that big corps like logitech and razer can put "5000 DPI!!!" on the label. As far as optical mice go, the MX518 is awesome specs wise, but it has this shitty correction which you will notice if you are particular about your mice (there's a vertical deadzone like with a gamepad) - If you have an MX518, open paint and try and draw a horizontal straight line, it will be perfect. This is a bad thing. My recommendation is the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0. I have mine set with a custom USB driver so it polls at 1000hz rather than 125hz (the default windows 125hz = 8 ms mouse lag, 1000hz = 1ms) and it's easily superior to any mouse setup I've tried elsewhere. As for people saying about sensitivity, if you have your mouse on sens 6 @ 450dpi with no pointer precision enabled, it only takes like 15cm of mouse movement to move it 1920 pixels, so I dunno what you're talking about. Also the high level players who play in tournys usually have about 20-30cm of mouse movement for a 360 turn in an fps game.
herp dpi is the only way to increase my sensitivity derp
g500!
How is it bad?
because it's one "redeeming" feature is that it can act as either a second numpad or number row chances are you already have a numpad and number row and thus this "feature" is useless the only way this is useful is if you fit the fat, lazy mmo player stereotype so well that you no longer have the energy to move your hand 2-3 inches to the right

Razer Deathadder. I've got the lefty version. [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/0beEd.jpg[/img_thumb]
Those mice are awful to use when you're used to having tactile feedback.
They do have tactile feedback. But they're over op's budget.

They click when you press the mouse button. While the touch gestures are awesome, it's not really good for gaming (I found myself scrolling accidentally when holding down the mouse button in Minecraft for example). Not to say that it's a piece of crap, as it's far from it, but if you want a mouse that will last long, there's plenty of options. Since many Mac applications find great uses for multitouch, I keep it connected to my iMac. Check out the reviews on Newegg for the MX518, people have been using them for 5-6 years without it breaking. I can't say the same for my Deathadder, who's scrollwheel broke after a year and a half of regular use. I bought my MX518 a few weeks ago and have been mousing happily ever since.
They do have tactile feedback. But they're over op's budget.
I've used one and I don't recall getting any tactical feedback, if I did get any feedback it felt awful and nothing like clicking a normal mouse. The scrollwheel method was also awful.
mx518 errday
I've used one and I don't recall getting any tactical feedback, if I did get any feedback it felt awful and nothing like clicking a normal mouse. i looked up my mouse's dpi out of curiosity. 1000 fuck [editline]23rd January 2011[/editline]
Or i don't use a numpad and the 12 extra buttons on the side provide an advantage in many games?
yeah seriously it's an mmo mouse and that thing would be fucking amazing in world of warcraft.
i looked up my mouse's dpi out of curiosity. 1000 fuck
If you had to look it up to care, then it doesn't matter.
Yeah they don't have tactical feedback, but they do indeed have tactile feedback, and make clicking noises when depressed brah.
I stand corrected, I only used one for a short period of time and hated every second of it
I read that it was shit. Is it true?
Personal preference. I love my x8, can use it on damn near any surface, even glass and it will still work perfectly at 4000dpi.
100 dpi for the win :D
I always have my mouse set on 2000 dpi
I just ordered a G500 a minute before looking at this thread.
