• Nvidia: DirectX 11 is not important

Wow, plenty of "hating" on Nvidia right now. They supported DX10 as soon as they could...and no one cared. Now they change their game plan and the ever-so precarious public perception is that DX11 is actually worth something. As someone mentioned earlier...by the time we seen decent DX11 support in games the hardware will be in place; this isn't the death of Nvidia. ATI's new cards are awesome and I will likely buy one in a few months, but I can't help but feel sympathetic for Nvidia.
Just wow.
What the fuck man.
They said the same thing at a Quakecon presentation, and noted that there's only like 10 titles out that actually use DX10. They do have a point I suppose.
Thats what they said about 10.1, and no game uses that. Hell, I can count Dx10 games on my fingers.

Remeber dx10.1? Nvidia ignored that too and look where it went. [editline]06:23PM[/editline] Nobody will make a dx11 game that only works on Ati video cards of an already small market.
The games that did have 10.1, took it out. I heard rumors that Nvidia paid some of the studioss to patch them to DX10, removing ATi's benefit.
The games that did have 10.1, took it out. I heard rumors that Nvidia paid some of the studioss to patch them to DX10, removing ATi's benefit.
Is that's true, Nvidia needs anti-trust after them.

[editline]06:23PM[/editline] Nobody will make a dx11 game that only works on Ati video cards of an already small market.
Maybe, but in the short term if Nvidia doesn't support DX11 in their next line of cards I think they're going to have trouble competing with ATI, especially if their cards are relatively more expensive. ATI's already capitalizing on having the "first and only" DX11 cards in their advertising.
I'd get an ATI card but hammer's font fucks up with ATI cards 4xxx Until they fix the problems of SMALL TEXT AND FUCKED UP TEXT I think I'll stick to nVidia.

This is smart business sense. There is barely a market for Dx10 video cards now because microsoft went all dumb and make DX10 Vista only. Just about every modern shader technique in the pipe for the next two years works on DirectX 9 videocards. Microsoft caused this, not nVidia

NVidia sucks they're not using something that nothing else uses for practical purposes baaawww
Does anyone actually care bout DX10? Just because a game uses DX10 doesn't mean it automatically looks better than one using DX9 - in fact there are plenty of DX9 games that look better (and run better) than the snazzy new DX10 games. I really don't care if Nvidia isn't going to support DX11. The number of DX10 exclusive games is even smaller than the number of DX10 ones. DX11 is going to be even less.
"There have been major strides over the course of these years..." What the fuck nvidia.
I'd get an ATI card but hammer's font fucks up with ATI cards 4xxx Until they fix the problems of SMALL TEXT AND FUCKED UP TEXT I think I'll stick to nVidia.
That's been fixed, you silly sausage. Anyway, my last Nvidia GPU was a GeForce 3, and I'm keeping it that way. Fuck their business practices, and fuck their awful low image quality cards. ATI beat them to DX9, DX10.1, and now DX11, all without dirty business practices. It's clear who the better company is. Oh, and for those of you saying DX10/11 is worthless, tell me that after: 1: Suffering through no dynamic lighting in the next Stalker. 2: Getting awful framerates in Crysis 2 because it's a deferred shading based game, and DX10.1/DX11 offers nothing but performance improvements for it.
I'd get an ATI card but hammer's font fucks up with ATI cards 4xxx Until they fix the problems of SMALL TEXT AND FUCKED UP TEXT I think I'll stick to nVidia.
That's the most fucking stupid anything I've read today. Pay hundreds more for a card that has no definate answer on stability just for fucking TEXT. You can still fucking read the god damn text.
According to Microsoft, DX11 is just a short stop to DX12. Maybe nVidia is saving up for a big bang.
Even if it's not the defining reason for choosing a new card, it's still a reason, and as such, IS important.

Wait don't cards that utilize DX10.1 and 11 better in the long run?
I've been a Nvidia user for a long time now, but some of these cards Ati is pushing out makes me want to switch over and use some of their products. This news just shows Nvidia is being lazy and doesn't want to compete. Shows they don't care about the consumers - well if they don't want to earn their money i'll sure as hell give it to Ati. Sure i know DX11 isn't going to be used any time soon, but still...Ati has pushed out a Dx11 card and now with that they can improve on top of it.
This really doesn't change the game for the consumer. If you are waiting to buy the new ATI 5000 series then waiting a couple of months is still advisable due to price drops...and there may even be an Nvidia alternative that is competitive.
According to Microsoft, DX11 is just a short stop to DX12. Maybe nVidia is saving up for a big bang.
11 to 12, 12 to 13, 13 to 14, 14 to 15 and so on.
Do tobacco companies care about their customers? No, just about their money.
Do tobacco companies care about their customers? No, just about their money.
They care about the customer enough to put in the features desired and to market it effectively. If by "care" you mean "tuck into bed with a warm glass of milk" or "give away the product" then no...they don't care.
The next one is always the "BIG" one. Even so, skipping a standard and leaving your loyal fan consumers to sit out that generation doesn't seem like a solution to me.
