• Mechanical Keyboard Megathread v4 - *click clack* BUY A SWITCH TESTER

Got myself a keytester. Decided I liked reds the best for gaming, and blue the best for typing. So bye bye Razer Blackwiddow Ultimate 2013. You served me well.
Yay got and update on my group buy for most of the rest of my keyboard and it's looking like everything is coming along.
Picked up an MX Black CM Quickfire Rapid from eBay. It's got a nice feel to it - fully depressing the keys produces a really satisfying clack but otherwise they're pretty quiet. Seems really nice, might get some Tai Hao keycaps for it
Anyone heard of the new "Halo True" and "Halo Clear" switches? They're apparently meant to mimic the feel of Topre boards with how their actuation force is "smooth" from start to finish, but it will be a "true" mechanical key. Saw them on MD just now, only thing that's sketchy is they're made by Kaihua. https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-x-input-club-k-type-mechanical-keyboard

I can't speak from experience since I haven't had a kalih board in ages, but it's also part of the reason why they are putting out a shit ton of new switches too.
So I accidentally bought a second hand hhkb p2 today - I'm starting to get anxiety for all the money I've spent in such short time. I have to sell the cooler master masterkeys though, total dust collector

I've been using a Max Keyboard Nighthawk X7 for about two years now, with zero complaints, I slapped some o-rings on those MX Blues and it's been an amazing experience. Until the past month. Every now and then (fluctuates between every 20 minutes to every 3 hours), the keyboard will play the Windows USB disconnect sound, the Keyboard LEDs will shut off, and whatever button I was pressing would be spammed. About half a second later, Windows will play the USB connected sound, the LEDs will turn back on, and the keyboard will resume normal function. I've only found a few forum posts around the net with my same issue and I've yet to find a solution. What I've tried: - Turning off the LED backlight (seemed to decrease the frequency of the issue, but didn't fix) - Installing the drivers from MaxKeyboard's website - Using the keyboard on multiple USB(2.0 and 3.0) ports on my PC - Unchecking "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" on the Windows Device Manager - Disabling "USB Selective suspend" under Power Options - Plugging the keyboard into a USB hub instead of into a port on the PC What I haven't tried: - Testing on another PC (due to the fluctuating nature of the issue, I haven't had the time to see if the issue occurs on another computer, I used it on my laptop for 90 minutes and didn't have the issue) - Updating BIOS (last resort, I don't see how it could be causing issues if the same version has worked for 2 years now) Sorry for all of that documentation, has anyone seen something like this before or have additional suggestions for what I should try? [editline]September 3rd[/editline] Solution for any archive readers, apparently I had my PC plugged into the same circuit as the refrigerator in the next room and everytime the compressor kicked on, it'd cause some interference with my USB devices, I just move my PC to a different outlet in the room and fixed it.
Sounds like your cable connection is the issue. Hence the d/c sounds :v:
Sounds like your cable connection is the issue. Hence the d/c sounds :v:
That's what I'm thinking, but I haven't been able to replicate it on another PC. I used it on my laptop for 90 minutes and I didn't encounter the problem, but then again, it was just 90 minutes of use. My next steps are: - Plug the keyboard into the USB ports on the front of my desktop case - Use the keyboard on the other PC for a longer period of time to see if the issue arises After that I can probably conclude if its the keyboard cable itself or the USB ports on my motherboard that have gone bad.

Especially in this hobby?
Signature Plastics' SA production is incredibly limited, and the only other manufacturer of that profile is Maxkey in China who don't have as many molds and have prohibitively expensive custom legends.

Especially in this hobby?
Because everyone who wants a custom keycap set gets signature plastics to do it. They do the enthusiast stuff on the side while making keycap related stuff for corporations as their main business. There are so many sa group buys happening right now and i guarantee SP can only make one set at a time
Okay that makes a lot of sense :v: Then again I shouldn't be surprised.
Just finished restoring a VAR Systems (Chicony) white alps K101 AT keyboard. Found the keyboard in the basement of my new building. [t]https://s22.postimg.org/cob1m4ha9/1o.jpg.jpg[/t] [t]https://s4.postimg.org/ldq27jxgb/image.jpg[/t]

Got a Zealios switch tester. I need 65gs in my life.
What are the heaviest springs I can get my hands on for Cherry-style switches?
What are the heaviest springs I can get my hands on for Cherry-style switches?
https://mekanisk.co/collections/keyboard-parts/products/gold-springs-for-mx-mechanical-keyboards 180g is easily accessible, but you can probably go further.
The other day I saw someone on GH who had 240g springs in their switches. Might want to look at that.
The other day I saw someone on GH who had 240g springs in their switches. Might want to look at that.
I really don't get how people can use springs that heavy, even for just typing.
Ew fullsize
JUSTsystem tkl boards are like impossible to find (and I needed a JUSTsystems) I still have my trusty 91u tho [t]http://i.imgur.com/dd5kOWO.jpg[/t] aka my baby
I really don't get how people can use springs that heavy, even for just typing.
Yeah I like heavy springs but 240g would be insane.
I can use my Gateron Greens happily, I even think I could use a 100g+ switch, but probably not 200g+
I can use my Gateron Greens happily, I even think I could use a 100g+ switch, but probably not 200g+
my board with blacks is too heavy for me to play games with for too long :wow:
