Finally finished desoldering all of the LEDs on my whitefox, so I can use the slider quickswap feature. Currently rocking some red switches. Typing this just an excuse to type. They feel nice. tap tap tap [editline]29th September 2017[/editline] Had standard MX clears before, and they're super heavy in comparison
gat reds or cherry reds
cherry reds, got them from a keyboard a friend donated to me [editline]30th September 2017[/editline] is it possible to buy sliders in bulk anywhere? I don't need whole switches
cherry reds, got them from a keyboard a friend donated to me [editline]30th September 2017[/editline] is it possible to buy sliders in bulk anywhere? I don't need whole switches
I think there have been slider group buys done before, check r/mechmarket and geekhack. I can't think of anyone who just sells sliders though.
also, are they called sliders or stems or something else? it's impossible to google, I either get results of actual cherry stems or some random strain of weed :v:
also, are they called sliders or stems or something else? it's impossible to google, I either get results of actual cherry stems or some random strain of weed :v:
I googled "mx switch stems" and the third result was Mehkee selling mx clear stems: https://mehkee.com/products/cherry-mx-clear-stems They're a reputable seller but the shipping to EU is pretty bad.
MX Browns are really scratchy and rough feeling switches. I have a few devices that use them and I've ended up feeling unsatisfied with them after a while. The tactile-bump they have is so insubstantial that it just feels like dirt stuck in the switch. I'd honestly suggest picking another switch type next time or avoiding Cherry altogether if you wish to.
Get some of that kailh box white. Supreme click.
Does anyone know of a good, minimal-looking backlit (not necessarily RGB) MX Blues keyboard? I'm not really into fancy gamer looking or macro-full keyboards, but since I type in the dark most of the time the backlit keys would come in handy. So far the Ducky keyboards have caught my attention.

If you REALLY must have cherry switches rather than gaterons for some reason then go for a Ducky One, but usually people prefer gaterons.
Fullsize and black.
There's a fullsize Magicforce that comes in black and has backlighting if I recall correctly. Ducky Ones come with black cases, as do most of Ducky's boards.
*cleaning tips*
I was just about to ask how to clean a keyboard, but I'm glad I skimmed the thread first, since this is pretty helpful! One question though; how should I dry it, and how long should I let the case and keycaps dry before reassembling it?

If you really want to be sure that there isn't any water in the keycap stems then you can use kitchen roll to wick the water out.
Is there a mechanical (Cherry MX) keyboard that has a laptop layout (not ten-keyless)? Like this Thinkpad keyboard here: [t]https://i.imgur.com/YmW6VgH.jpg[/t] I need all the space I can on my desk because it's small, so I'm wondering if there are mechanical keyboards like that.
The closest to that particular layout is either a 60% or 75%. For examples look at the Vortex Pok3r and Race. 60% is probably the most popular layout for mechanical boards actually, there is a near infinite amount of 60% boards/kits/pcbs out there. 75% is less popular but you still have a lot of options. Even smaller layouts such as 40% (example: Planck) or 30% (example: Gherkin) also exist.

However, if you know how to solder, you can try making your own pcb which would let you get any layout you want, including one that looks like your Thinkpad keyboard there. Keep in mind you'll have to make your own case for it, and you'll also have to source keycaps, switches and other components as well.

I bought a switch tester for my BF to both serve as a way to test switches and to act as a fidget cube. However, he's also expressed interest at those mecha-membrane/"mechanical feel" keyboards. Does anyone have any experience with those?

i have finally found one of my dream boards, I have always wanted one of these ugly ass keyboards and found one on ebay for like $35 [t]https://puu.sh/y224m/bc7fb31cf0.jpg[/t]
Is there a mechanical (Cherry MX) keyboard that has a laptop layout (not ten-keyless)?
what about the Oneness Cup Rubber ? ? ?
You can never go wrong with some good feeling of oneness with cup rubber.
what about the Oneness Cup Rubber ? ? ?
the cup rubber is the best rubber
Honestly though my old Thermaltake plunger membrane keyboard felt almost as bad as red switches so they can get close

Our switch tester got here and he settled on Blues. Gonna just get some semi-generic Amazon keyboard like my Aukey as it works super well for me.
Honestly though my old Thermaltake plunger membrane keyboard felt almost as bad as red switches so they can get close
At least it wasn't browns.
The price. Our switch tester got here and he settled on Blues.
At least it wasn't browns.
reds and browns are good please be nice to them
Lmao just sold my G910 Logi keyboard plasticy as hell never buy RomerG shit
knock off mechanical switches aren't bad, you can easily get a mechanical keyboard that's priced the same as a "semi-mechanical"
To be honest gateron have better tooling than cherry these days. Kailh also do cool stuff like click bars and the box switches.
Got my deck, its got some buttery smooth mx blacks in it [t]https://puu.sh/y3U3U/91f9a5bfc8.JPG[/t] it has a date stamp of '04 which makes sense for how ugly this thing is
