The fucking caps on both my vortex sets frustrates me more than it should
Finally got a leopold fc660c on the way
It's awesome that they have official sellers in Europe now so you can get them for the normal price

I've never thought Vortex caps looked good, and their shine-through double shots are just fucking awful looking. I don't get it. They made some really nice looking Poker keyboards too for a while.

They do? Link pls
Got my K-Type today. I'll be honest, I kind forgot I even bought the thing and then also remembered all the drama with the fucking Halo switches. Oh well, got mine.
The key caps they decided to use are kinda weird. They have this rough texture on them that's almost like really, really low grit sandpaper, which sounds awful but it's not irritating, just a detail to notice. They're fine otherwise, except they decided to use the Vortex-style caps lock text which is an arrow pointing DOWN for some reason to represent letters getting bigger. idfk.
I got the Halo Clear switches with it which, between Clear and True, were the heavier tactile force but lower bottom out force keys. They feel so smooth it's honestly hard to tell if they're actually tactile or not, which is weird. Maybe it's because they're not clicky, less to notice once you hit the actuation point since they're just tactile switches ala MX Clear. [del]I'd need more time to find out if I am going to keep them on the board (hot swappable, woo!) but I guess I'll find out later tonight when I play games on this thing[/del] (and one reason why this post is so long). Actually I think I'm going to replace these ASAP because I find them a little heavy already. These are also the loudest switches I've used in a while, very solid *thunk* sounding on bottom out, but I've also been using a Novatouch for months now so anything will be loud compared to that thing.
The lighting on it is cool but not programmable yet and I'm also just going to turn it off so whatever. Maaaybe once it's programmable I'll keep light on the bottom half of the case for kicks but never on the keys.
That's about it.

Zeal switch force is shown by bottom out, right? Not by actuation?
I think Zeal list their switches by activation point but I'm not 100% on that.
They do? Link pls
Pretty sure the lads over at Keyboardco have been getting them in for a while now.

I ask because I remember you specifically mentioned at some point they're weighed by bottom out instead of actuation. Could be wrong though.

I just want to point out, it's not just Vortex who do this. For some reason I can't possibly fathom, a down arrow has represented Caps Lock since Cherry started doing it in like the 80s.
The other old Caps Lock symbol is even more inexplicable, being a handbag with a keyhole.
Have literally only ever seen an up arrow or lock symbol for Caps Lock :v:
A down arrow makes no sense, what keyboards include that?

Like I said, most Cherry boards

Like here's the two 1800s I got from Germany
I'd hazard a guess it's more a german thing than a Cherry thing, although isn't Cherry HQ in Germany?

Or lets not guess and actually check :v:

That's just a padlock, not a handbag
That's just a padlock, not a handbag
I have honestly never seen a padlock with either the keyhole on the side or a semicircular body, didn't even consider that.

Just checked their site and they're rated at bottom out force. My b.

They will be shipping next week https://www.candykeys.com/product/fc660c-white-topre/
These guys will have them too again in like one or two weeks https://mykeyboard.eu/search/?q=fc660c (but they charge 5€ for shipping :v:)
(Just chat them up on facebook if you got questions - they respond really quickly, even on public holidays I discovered)
My IBM Model M took a spill yesterday and despite my best efforts no longer responds to any keypresses.

I hear a lot of people complaining that the thumb keys are badly positioned, they must just have baby hands because they're perfect for me.
build your own 40%
The whole appeal is being able to program it exactly how you want and you can't do that with a core
I would recommend a jd40 or if you want to get weird with it build a planck
i love both of these style of boards and have built quite a few of each of them, they are a blast to use

as cool as this seems it just seems too expensive for me at the moment
maybe if I had the money/patience I'd do it since I am obsessed with control over my buttons, would totally be awesome
vortex core totally works to my needs anyways since I can't build anything atm. I have it by now and love it, though the big complaint I have is that I'd rather have Fn/Fn2 on both sides each, caps being function like I set on my pok3r, and then shift the number keys to either keypad style or A to ; rather than tab to L. Minor issues though. All of these would totally be fixed with a custom though but I can accept it

Vortex are going to release a programming tool for it sooner or later.

Hah! It works again!
And it turns out that it was made in 1996, not 1995, huh. I only found out when I read the internal label upon taking it apart.
Still, it lives to clack another day
Are there any reasonably priced 96% PCBs which support an ISO enter group and split rshift that you can get off the shelf or am I stuck waiting for YMD96/96KEE leftovers to go up?
Doesn't need to include switches or case, those can be sorted easily enough. A plate is a major bonus though.

The latter
Compact fullsize layouts are only just coming up right now with shit like how popular the 96-key is getting, the TKC1800 coming soon and KBDfans getting in on the trend with the 19x or whatever they're calling it, it'll be a bit before they're commonly available like the 65% is now
Why not get a normal compact keyboard and then a separate numpad

their site has it but it only seems to be for display atm, that and when you click keys you have to manually add the 'press up' afterwards, bit of a bother

I've fallen out of love with MX Browns, I'm wishing I'd gotten something different but it's too late now.

You can always get some other switches and do a switch swap.
You don't really need to do any soldering either if you don't want to. Most cherry clones fit fine inside genuine housings. Aristotle stems are quite a tight fit though, ymmv on those.
I really wish there was such a thing as silent blues. I don't like O-rings.

Tactile switches? Zealios.

QMX clips, aka the things that Zealencios are knocking off. There's a GB for them thats either ongoing or just finished.

Zealios are pretty expensive though. I'd recommend Clears or cheaper Clear clone. Or jailhousing some blues if he really likes how blues feel.
