PS/2 NKRO is native NKRO, it will just always work no matter what because it's part of the protocol by design.
On the other hand, USB NKRO is a hacky workaround, since the USB HID protocol can by design only send 6 bits of keypress data per packet. Any keyboard that does have NKRO over USB does so by breaking the HID protocol somehow.
Thanks to Ducky for figuring out how the fuck that works.

Usually they make the keyboard masquerade as a load of different HID devices at once.

After using this Razer Blackwidow keyboard for a few years, I have come to dislike how loud it is. I'm not sure which switches it uses, but I'm sure you aficionados already know the answer.
So, now I'm looking for a mechanical keyboard with quieter switches. I'm not picky about the feel of the switches.
I have already found a keyboard that looks like it might fit my bill, but I want to see what you guys have to say about my situation and what kind of keyboards you might recommend.
My pick so far is the Corsair STRAFE MX Silent.
I can't seem to find an RGB version with the silent switches, but I don't mind the color as much as I mind the performance and sound output.
I have the Strafe RGB with Cherry MX Red switches, and its a solid keyboard. It is excellent build quality, feels very solid, nice keycaps from my experience and the backlight is quite nice and very bright. I found the CUE software pretty manageable, though some people seem to hate it. The wrist wrest is a nice add on too and makes it conformable to type on.
However, if you're looking for something similar with dedicated media keys the K70 LUX is also a great choice. I have both and they're both great keyboards (thanks amazon). The K70 has a dimmer backlight because it doesn't have a white base, instead it has a lovely aluminum base that makes an already solid product feel even better. K70 also has lovely dedicated media keys and a volume control spinner.
Both are great keyboards, Reds are as obnoxious as blues, but they're far from silent. It's something you get used to, I wish the K70 and Strafe were available in RGB with the silent switches though, I'm curious if I would like them more.
I am very happy with the CM Masterkey keyboard. It's pretty great.
I've wanted a ducky shine 5 with brown cherries as my first mechanical keyboard for months, but every time I went to buy it it was out of stock.
My girlfriend told me she got me one and just opening the box, it's a shine 6!
I didn't even know the 6 existed.
This is the first time Ducky have done software AFAIK, how is it?
This is the first time Ducky have done software AFAIK, how is it?
Buggy.
It failed to update the firmware on my YOTM four times before doing it successfully.
This is the first time Ducky have done software AFAIK, how is it?
Huh, I didn't know they had software now either.
I just got done going through all the lighting modes with the function keys/no software.
Let me try the software and see what I think.
So basically I have a few more options with the different modes in software.
I can set action and background colors for the various modes, like having orange raindrops on a blue surface in raindrop mode, or pink waves on a white surface in ripple mode.
I can set RGB with full 0 - 255 control, rather than 10 different levels for each color.
I can set the direction of the wave mode, which is kinda neat.
It's a lot easier to set custom lighting configurations.
What's cool is that the software is just for changing mode settings stored in memory on the keyboard, not something that needs to run in the background.
With the software closed, I can still hop through the modes and change settings using the function+whatever keys.
Also found out I have the special edition/year of the monkey version.
This is really neat.
Pretty sure 6 is only available as special edition currently. If I wasn't moving real soon I'd pick it up, it's actually cheaper here than the US for the first time ever.
Do you have a second keyboard somewhere to type spaces and new lines?
I hope you have a separate numpad to go with that.
I'm really liking my Corsair K65 so far.

On what planet do you find caps lock more important than the fuckin space bar?!
What even is this layout?! What is the anchor key and why is there no Control key except for where right shift should be? Why are there 3 Windows keys?! You could put the control keys there. None of this makes sense!

Just because a cap is there doesn't mean it does what is advertised on the key. He could just be using it since they are both 2u or 1.75u or whatever.
Yeah I'm guessing the right side shift is enter and the caps lock is space
[editline]22nd February 2017[/editline]
I'm also betting he doesn't actually have 3 keys assigned to super

you alright dude you need some water or something
they aren't labeled correctly because they don't make a keyset that supports my layout but all 100 something keys from a normal keyboard are there

yes including the numbers
Looking to sell my custom 60% if anyone is interested.

Oh. Then awesome! I really like the layout and the worksmanship is great.
I'm not too well versed in the types of switches, but my current keyboard is infuriating me with how often it registers multiple key presses when I only mean to type out one letter.
As an example, the word "astonish" would come out to "asstonish" or sometimes "astsonish".
Never buying another Razer keyboard again. I have learned my lesson.
But now, I am searching for a new keyboard to replace this one.
There were two main reasons that I chose this keyboard to begin with:
1. It fits my small pull-out tray that my mouse and mouse pad must share with the keyboard.
To clarify, at ~18.5 inches, this keyboard and mouse setup leaves NO horizontal space remaining on my pull-out tray. So, whatever keyboard I'm looking to replace this one with must be the same length or shorter (which can be kind of tough, since I require a numpad).
2. It has at least a 10-key rollover, so I can simultaneously press 10 keys at once (for a virtual piano).

Black widow now has orange and yellow switches which are essentially browns and reds

Green, Orange, and Yellow, which are Blue, Brown, and Red, respectivly.
That is a lot of commas.

I'd slap a baby for this to drop again, especially since I have money to buy it now.

thats like saying rubber domes are essentially topres
kailh literally make the lowest quality of all the (mainstream) cherry knockoffs

But Razer say they have their own Razer Quality Control Experts watching over the lines making them to make sure they're good! Razer wouldn't lie to me, would they?!
[sp]I think Kailh aren't exclusive manufacturers for Razer switches anymore anyway, I remember seeing stuff about Greetech made ones too and Razer confirmed they had multiple different companies supplying them.[/sp]
Kailh also don't make the Razer switches anymore, Greetech do.
Yes, this will be in the new OP.

You got me excited for a second.
I saw the picture and immediately thought it was on MD again. Regardless, I just bought a bag of Aristotles, so I'm gonna mod my current 67g zealios into zealistotles and see what I think of em for a while.
i still have my quickfire tk, but i can't get my lazy ass to get up and clean it
