• Mechanical Keyboard Megathread v4 - *click clack* BUY A SWITCH TESTER

The N key on my ducky yotg died yesterday :( I disassembled it to see if I could figure out what was wrong as it's way past the warranty period. It's unusable with the key being broken anyways. Now I'm far from circuitry savvy and maybe what I did is retarded V:v:V I tried shorting the pins to see if it would actuate. It worked for all keys except the broken N one. Could this mean that the problem is more likely due to the circuitry rather than a broken switch? I would love to get it fixed because I can't find a new one for sale anywhere, not even ebay.
Probably a broken switch. Try soldering a different switch in there instead.

I don't think there's any use, I can't spot any damage and you probably wont be able to see any from the pictures either. There's a pcb for the LEDs that doesn't come off on top, wasn't able to snap a better photo without a third hand. [t]http://chry.me/up/0K0N2.jpg[/t][t]http://chry.me/up/7v5G2.jpg[/t] Anywhere I can maybe just get some pcb, switches and plate combo without the rest? Something that I wouldn't have to diy myself. I don't know much about diy stuff and wouldn't know whether or not plates are proprietary. I guess the problem is the proprietary function/media keys, the standard boards from like WASD wont do. Maybe I'm too hopeful to resurrect it, I just haven't found anything that I would be happy to replace it with. I'll try replacing the switch later though I'll probably just end up messing it up more.
Second worst case you could replace the controller with a Teensy or similar small device. There are open source firmwares which could be pretty easily modified to fit that board. Worst case a trace has broken inside the PCB and you're gonna need to do some advanced open-pcb surgery to try and fix it.
I replaced the switch with one that works for sure but that didn't solve it :( Guess the board is broken, oh well.
I replaced the switch with one that works for sure but that didn't solve it :( Guess the board is broken, oh well.
it's probably a broken trace depending on how many layers there are in the PCB it's potentially fixable with some minor soldering work
it's probably a broken trace depending on how many layers there are in the PCB it's potentially fixable with some minor soldering work
unless he already owns the equipment and has the know-how it's probably far cheaper and easier to just buy a new board
Finally have the rest of the parts for my keyboard ordered
Finally have the rest of the parts for my keyboard ordered
What parts?
What parts?
https://www.reddit.com/r/mechmarket/comments/64aj8b/gb_custom_60_keyboard_kit_campine_x_gazzew/ Thinking I'm going to run this in the 60% with arrow keys on primary layer configuration
Kill me now, $450 for a basic TX-CP shipped to Australia in the round 2 preorders. Good thing I don't have to pay until the 15th of May and my birthday's on the 7th so I'll be getting a few hundred dollars then to help pay for it.

For my B.mini EX case and PCB, it ended up being $56, double Hojin's normal flat rate to Oceania. And the TX is $60, presumably on account of weighing a goddamn ton and being thicc.

i've owned a 6gV2 for 6 years and still going strong. Fantastic FPS keyboard, cherry MX black. Easy to take apart and clean and i'm a very messy person.
I've always wondered why so many mechanical keyboard fans (I've seen) love the Model M so much and use it for gaming. Doesn't the Model M have terrible ghosting due to it's age?
Wow, this thread died. Bumping for a question, how would you guys rate the Redragon S102 keyboard and mouse combo you can buy for like 35 bucks? It has multiple backlight options and colors (same for the mouse), has 6 macro keys and a built-in wrist rest. It is rubber dome but I am entirely fine with that. Oh the keyboard is also standard with a full numpad, something I need to have in any keyboard I'd buy. Oh also I'm asking here because I could not find any simmilar keyboard thread to ask in.

I'd say spend a bit more and get something actually mechanical like a Fullsize magicforce as a foray into mechs. Wristwrests aren't that expensive and neither are dedicated macropads if you need macros. Don't buy boards with macrokeys unless you actually use them, etc. Same goes for the integrated wristwrest.

I have felt mechanical keyboards before (I really like cx brown & blue keys) but they're pretty pricey which is why I'm opting for the S102 and mouse combo. Also yeah I'd be using macro keys semi-often along with a wrist rest, I absolutely need that Also any keyboard I buy needs to be black and have a simplistic / sharp look, I really dislike white keyboards with blue / white back-lighting, it's not my style at all to be honest. Thanks for the incentive though, I really appreciate it!
Just go get a 5$ keyboard/mouse combo from whatever retailer then. The mouse will be a shit office mouse either way, and a 35$ rubber dome board isn't going to be any better than a 5$ one.
Seriously Logitech puts out a great $15 rubber dome that lasts long and there's no reason to pay more than that

I kinda need actual build quality and anti-ghosting in my keyboard, along with the mouse having actual speed and accuracy, lol. The last thing I'm going to cheap out on that badly is the peripherals, which I'll be using the entire time I'm on the pc. Remember, peripherals can either make or break the entire experience. Cheaping out that badly will guarantee a bad experience for me.
Seriously Logitech puts out a great $15 rubber dome that lasts long and there's no reason to pay more than that
I've looked at the Logitech G105 keyboard but honestly I'm not the biggest fan of it. The colors are all over the place and would clash with my setup and within the keyboard itself (dim blue backlighting, dark grey front, light grey WASD and arrow keycaps, red underside, etc it's really weird.) The Redragon at least matches throughout the entire thing, even with the mouse, and it has multiple backlight colors (same with mouse), and anti-ghosting, and etc. It would also greatly match the setup. By the way, I'd really like a minimalistic look to a keyboard I'd buy, along with a wrist rest and anti-ghosting, and needs actual build quality / thought put into the peripherals.

Will last infinitely longer than a rubber dome and the keys can be replaced if they start to wear. Buy a wrist wrest separately and you're all set with high build quality for ages. [editline]28th April 2017[/editline] [t]http://i.imgur.com/wT2ZkB3.jpg[/t] quality photo plus there are options for different switches whereas rubberdomes have no real standard.
High quality peripheral keyboard = mech keyboard. Just the same that not every mechanical keyboard is godlike build quality, not every rubber dome is terrible. Plus I can't get a mech keyboard due to how high priced they are, and I'd have to buy a 15 - 25 dollar mouse along with it which just makes the price rocket up to 65 dollars or much more. Plus many of the cheap mechs are the white style with light blue backlighting / similar, and that would clash with my setup terribly + I despise the way they look. I'll be looking for a decent mech if I can, but 90% sure I'll be going with the Redragon I linked due to how good it is for the price.

Gonna have a shitty office sensor with a shitty ODM firmware which is going to mean massive click delay and garbage tracking. If you want a good cheap mouse then get a WMO off eBay. Literally 5$ for one of the best mice ever made.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/pOPiLnO.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/5QGCQ4z.jpg[/t] finished my plum 84 modifications this weekend, gonna need a ladder to hit those keys
I recently got a Blackwidow Chroma and I am LOVING it so far. Got a whole bunch of cool lighting effects.
That's the highest profile case I've ever seen
Yeah, it'll take the mother of all armrests I guess, it's not too bad to type on though :) in the original design I was going to taper the case towards the front, giving it an angle and less height but I didn't have the tools to do it well. Also switched to 55 g domes from 35 g, it's a joy to type on now
