well if you cant get into windows then you just need to do either a) take it to someone who knows what they are doing (because I highly doubt that if you do the other option you will end up breaking more) b) take out a stick of ram and find out what the sticker says on it and then tell us so you can get the info on what sticks you need to buy to replace them all. then you just need to manage installing the new sticks properly.
Yeah I'll probably need to get new sticks off of Newegg.
if its a brand name computer then give us the name and the model number and we can look it up, otherwise pull a stick out that has a sticker on it and give us all the info that is on it top to bottom. DO THIS FOR EVERY LAST STICKER
No I built it. Also I just burned the disc following your directions. Now what?
put the disk into the drive and find out which key will let you do something around the names of selective boot or just go into the bios and change the boot order. [editline]21st June 2011[/editline] it can also detect a bootable disk is in the drive and probably launch it automatically.
Alright I'm at "Boot Device Priority" in the BIOS. Put "1st Boot Device" to the CD Drive? (CDROM:SM-ASUS DRW-24B1ST)?
yes
Ok so what should I be seeing? I just logged in normally and nothing is different.
you are supposed to boot into the disk, not log into windows.
I feel retarded. How do I do that? Only thing I did was change the first boot device to my dvd drive.
you need to read the text on the screen. you need to tell it it needs to force boot to the dvd drive and not the hard drive
Maybe I'm supposed to put the first boot device as "Removable Dev." instead of the "CDROM:SM-ASUS"?
[QUOTE=FalcoLombardi;30602085]Maybe I'm supposed to put the first boot device as "Removable Dev." instead of the "CDROM:SM-ASUS"?[/QUOTE] no removable is usb. restart the computer and actually read the text on the screen as it first starts up. find out which f key is to change the boot order or to boot to a certain device.
I must be blind since I didn't notice anything that tells me to boot to a certain device. It should appear during the POST right?
somewhere around there. if all else fails, if you know what gets you into the bios, start spamming all the f keys except that one and escape
Is there a way to stay on the POST screen?
[QUOTE=FalcoLombardi;30602269]Is there a way to stay on the POST screen?[/QUOTE] no
Ok just keyboard smashed the F keys and choose my CD to boot from. It then continued to boot as if nothing happened and it sent me to the login screen :raise:
well then the disk wasnt done properly. if you can get back into windows and you still have that usb stick then go grab that exe and plug the usb stick in and run it to make it bootable. then just change the boot order to removable first. now i have to go before this storm that is appearing over my head decides to kill me
Thanks Jord. Quick question, should I just retry burning the iso into the disc? [editline]20th June 2011[/editline] What the fuck I just realized that unzipping the file gave me another .zip file that was labeled .iso? [editline]20th June 2011[/editline] Yeah try it out. Unzipping the Memtest86 4.20 gives you another .zip mistakenly labeled as .iso
you burn the .iso not the .zip
The .iso is a .zip though. (I unzipped the one I downloaded and got another zip that say it's an iso). Kind of hard to explain but if you try it out you might get the same results as me. [editline]21st June 2011[/editline] Maybe I burned it incorrectly. Should I get Nero, Roxio, or something to burn a new DVD?
if the file extention ends in .iso then it is a iso file. i dont care what the icon looks like. you burn the iso
Which one? [img]http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/2148/isoj.png[/img] The top right one is the one I burned for the first disc.
mt420.iso
Hmm, that's the one I did the first time. [editline]21st June 2011[/editline] I probably didn't burn it as an .iso. Which Nero should I use? The default Windows burning software is useless.

I used imgburn already. Yay got Memtest finally up an drunning. 1) How do I start the testing? 2) What is the minimum time for testing? I know it's recommended to do overnight, but is 4 to 6 hours enough?
testing starts automatically. [img]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3664177/i875-big.gif[/img] this is good [img]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3664177/Memtest86%2B_2-errors-found.jpg[/img] this is bad [editline]21st June 2011[/editline] just let it do a few passes. it should quickly find errors.
1 hour into it and 1 pass in no errors [editline]21st June 2011[/editline] Gonna go for a few more hours [editline]21st June 2011[/editline] 3 Passes/ 3 hours no errors. Still testing.
