Couldn't you just get an inverter that has been charged up, and run the keyboard off that? Technically, you aren't using their electricity.

That's a pretty cool idea!
I don't know how long it will last, though. Maybe an hour tops?

Dunno. It depends on how much electricity it uses.
Just talk to the guys that run that lan, usually they are very flexible and accommodating. They just don't want a bunch of idiots coming in with 3 toasters, a lamp, cell phone chargers, etc. The two outlet rule is pretty standard but most lan coordinators are used to dealing with the occasional person or two that wants to use a third. Can't hurt to ask!
There is a post on logitech's forums like this.
You can also looks at how to make a usb(power only) cable from a molex cable.

Good way to get kicked out really fast
@edit, I already spoke to them, read teh previous posts please... Ah ok, so that is what it looks like, yes, i do recall those, so, essentially i would strip the power cable and merge the power directly into one of those? (in basic terms, i can imagine it is alot more technical than that)
[editline]08:09PM[/editline]
exactly, that will get me kicked before i even setup

Erm, no. A power strip, no matter how you add it, will probably get you kicked out if you don't ask.
crap... this is going to be tougher than i thought
Pepper;23615470']it depends on the voltage and amperage the g19 draws
a USB port supplies 5 volts at 0.5 amps
0.5 amps at 5 volts*
so, http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=89344, that would be allowed?
[editline]08:25PM[/editline]
wait, isn't that a powerstrip?

Yes that would work, and lolno?
powerstrip:

Just buy the equivalent of this:

(Depending on what connection your keyboard uses) and wire it to a molex connector.
Easy. No power bricks or fiddling with USB needed.
so to confirm, if i were to modify the powersupply to extend to 3 usb ports, i should be able to run it without the power cord?
[editline]05:49PM[/editline]
yea, i have had several emails and phone calls, but they do not want to allow it
that is not how electricity or USB works
ah ok, i see, i like that idea of that power connector and the molex cord :P, but would it send through only the needed power? or would it possibly send more
It sends more but it doesn't matter, current is being drawn from it.
so it wont damage my keyboard, or lets say shouldnt
Please go there and tell them to COME TO CAPE TOWN.
so it wont damage my keyboard, or lets say shouldnt
Your power supply doesn't send extra power to your graphics card when you aren't using it. It does the same thing with molex connectors. It won't force more current into the keyboard then its needs, thats not how electricity works. Current draw can vary in a circuit without much problem. Or if your scared you could add a resistor to get what you want. I = V/R or Current is equal to voltage over resistance. You don't need to do this though, I don't recommend it either.
For instance, with a linksys router I have it uses a 12v 1A supply, I can use a different 12v 2.5A supply just fine without damaging it.
Okay Just to throw this out there before you start making some crazy cable setup to power your expensive keyboard. I fried two Saitek Eclipse II's because I had the wrong power cable going into my USB hub, I grabbed it out of a box of my computer cables, it fit the little circular power hole but it was pumping so much juice into the hardware connected to the hub that everything that was plugged into blew immediately. So personally I wouldn't fuck around with this, the screen can't be that important.
@ajacks, you just ruined all my confidence... and trust me, it means the world to me...
@akitomoz, we (me and some friends) are actually in the process of setting a similiar one up in cape town
[editline]06:14PM[/editline]
@4RT1LL3RY, thank you, you were the one to give me confidence

Don't let that discourage you. He probably just found a 12v one when he needed 5v or something similar, without looking at the adapter.
It won't happen in your case, as long as you wire it up to the RED cable in the molex adapter.
Ah ok, thanks, my confidence is restored... I have carefully checked through everything and so everything should run smoothly :)

Oh yeah I probably did do something on those lines, but with a jerry-rigged solution there is the potential to screw something up. What is so critical about the LCD screen? I understand macros, but those would work without the external power.

Nope, G keys don't work without power. And since he RTSs, there would be useful information about unit health, idle units, etc etc etc.
I fail to see why the G19 is built that way - the G15 works off just a single USB port to power the screen, backlight and everything else.

Logitech forums say otherwise. OP why don't you test the keyboard without power and see what happens.

Cause the 19 has a color LCD when the 15 has a orange/blue monochrome LCD.

Can't void your warranty with this! We did this on the bus to our robotics competition (7 hours each way). Powered a Wii, a TV, and about 4 laptops for about half the trip.
