I really need a new computer, running XP with only like 30 GBs of ram, considering most the new computers have about a TB :/ My prossessor is bad and my graphics card is moderate.
Damn you people with your high end tech! Does anyone know how long XP users have untill people stop supporting them? I just want a rough estimate.
30GB?!?! That's less than the L1 Cache on my CPU! You're a joke man. Get something that can actually run Windows XP.
Can I has informatives? :3
No.
God informative spam
Windows 7 runs faster then XP. Also Microsoft are going to stop making updates for XP and Vista. So 7 all the way.
I doubt they will stop supporting Vista anytime soon
XP on old computers, win7 on new ones. Simple.
I definitely recommend getting Windows 7 over XP.

Anyways, go with Win7.

What do you mean "on extra boxes"? A Linux distro should be your main OS, the only use for Windows is playing games.

To me it seems just a hassle to boot into another OS JUST to play games and another one for everything else.

A lot of software doesn't/works like shit on linux.
Windows 7 actually, by some strange force of nature not fully comprehended by science, uses less system resources on lower-specced machines than XP. Nobody knows how it does it, it just does. And it packs some features that, once you try, you'll never be able to live without.
So... Better resource management, ensured compatibility, better features, more eye-candy... I can't see a reason why you wouldn't upgrade to Win7, to be honest. And if you really want to keep XP around, your Windows 7 license will get you an XP virtualization system too! That's two operating systems for the price of one! Operators are standing by, call now!
I need to delete a partition of my hard drive because having it split is taking up way too much room. I have a choice between XP or W7.
All I do is go on the internet and play games, be it off steam or from a disk, and I need to know which OS is better for doing that kind of thing. I thought it was XP for a while, but after reading a little I think I'm leaning toward W7, but I'm not certain on any of them.
You won't notice a significant performance boost from either. If you're lacking in the RAM department, you'd probaly be best off with XP. You can just modify WX7 to not use Aero Effects though, so I wouldn't see a huge difference. WX7 also supports newer hardware, has a lot of cool features, and supports DX10/11.
I really recommend Windows 7.
If he cannot afford a split drive, I don't think 7 is the best for him
i just switched to Vista :smug:
and the games run faster on Vista than on the XP :woop:

How do you handle all the changes in programmes such as MsWord??
I just can´t.
Besides the bigger buttons occupy a lot more screen space. In my computer I use xp.

Word has nothing to do with the OS. It's standalone.
What buttons. Push button's sizes are defined in the program, the caption buttons are only wider, the taskbar is optional. You make a very weak argument.
