ME is the OS that Bill Gates crashed on live tv isn't it?
No, that was Windows 98.
I had an ME computer. It sucked... I liked playing Red Alert on it though.
The thumbnails are confusing, they went from what they've used for near 15 years now, to something completely new. But I haven't completely used Win7 yet, just other people's computers. I'm sure it takes some getting used to.
Go in to the taskbar properties and set it to use labels, now you can tell apart pinned items and running programs, plus see the useful information usually present in a window title. The large icons take up more space but honestly makes it easier to quickly tell them apart.
I was watching a series on the history of Windows by some cool user on Youtube. This video might be a nice watch:
I once had Windows 98 BSOD in it's installer.
I had 2k and XP drivers BSOD in the installer. 0xED, erry time. Also, my best experience with WinME was right clicking on the desktop, and getting a runtime error.
We have an old Windows ME. It isn't THAT bad, imo
I still have an ME serial key and disk, but I'll be damned if I'm going to install it on even my old computer. I'm another one of the "used it when I was 8, never had problems" people, it seemed fine to me. I remember pestering my dad when we upgraded because XP didn't have the sound card drivers for the computer. It took about 2 months to find them. Then again, I wouldn't know about all the security flaws, the computer on ME was an offline computer.

They aren't hard to fix, but why the fuck were they occurring in the first place? I will never know as I gave up with ME when XP launched.
The Active Desktop needed to be restored ordeal? The occured alot of Win98/SE a lot as well. I even got it once on XP. My friend got one of the XP nLite things (Too lazy to do it on his own et cetera) and he got them very often. I ditched WinME after about 1month of use. Went to 2k instead, I delt with the driver problems for atleast a year. but it was okay.
I used to get Active Desktop errors every fucking week. They aren't hard to fix, but why the fuck were they occurring in the first place? I will never know as I gave up with ME when XP launched.
I remember that. That was so annoying.
98 was the shit.
I remember when our schools switched from Windows 3.11 to Win95, everyone was so confused, but we loved the MASSIVE upgrade. Everything was so much better.
95 and 98 forever.
Did they not even expect ME to catch on? Or was 2000 released quick like 7 was to vista?
Never tried ME, my friend had it and I remember it being shit. We had Windows 98 from 1998 - 2003 when I got my own computer with XP Pro on it.
Did they not even expect ME to catch on? Or was 2000 released quick like 7 was to vista?
ME came after 2000 iirc. ME was for intended home, 2000 for business.
I've had Windows ME way before for quite a while now, my uncle setted it up, don't know why. But I do remember about how the computer would freeze every second because of the background. It was not so bad, and I don't remember much, but it was supposed to be a modified Windows 2000 with new programs, and whatever. But no one could be able to stomach the crashing.
You know, I think I remember getting BSoDs (how to pluralize that?) on ME more often than XP, and I only got one on this Vista machine. ...Poor Vista.
i can't even force windows XP to BSoD.
i can't even force windows XP to BSoD.
disconnect the HDD while in windows I guarantee it will BSOD
i can't even force windows XP to BSoD.
Get a PS/2 keyboard, enable the BSoD hotkey. Blam.
Had WinME installed on a family PC without internet. Played The Sims 1 on it, after about a year, it didn't want to load it. Made no sense, none of us had installed anything. It wouldn't load any games. I may sound illiterate, but seriously none of us had done anything but play games and do our office work. If it doesn't even support booting up and doing what a typically family does, then I don't support it.
Get a PS/2 keyboard, enable the BSoD hotkey. Blam.
There's a BSoD key? :q:
There's a BSoD key? :q:
Yeah, it's a debugging feature and you need to enable it in the registry
Yeah, it's a debugging feature and you need to enable it in the registry
R E V E N G E ! 1 ! ! ! :rubshandstogetheran I don't see what the smiley has to do with the label.
Did they not even expect ME to catch on? Or was 2000 released quick like 7 was to vista?
2000 was in the NT line. it was meant to replace NT 4, not ME.
I used ME as a little kid for like fucking 2 years or something. Then I pestered my dad for 2 months to go and buy an XP upgrade disc. I get back from school, see the disc and I had the biggest grin in my life.
Win ME was an OS that appeared fine; but after a month or so of use began to crash all the time. It was terrible, awful just awful.
My grandfather's Gateway that he bought 10 years ago still runs ME. Hasn't reformatted it once. Has some issues, mostly from sheer age of that install, but still is actually very usable considering he only has 256 MB of RAM. [editline]07:20PM[/editline] He needs me to install Windows XP on it since the wireless adapter that he bought doesn't have drivers for Windows ME.

I would try that.
