• What is a good recomendation on a SSD?

Been using my Vertex 3 for 2 months, great so far.
What about Ocz's Revordrive PCIe SSd's?
In case anyone takes this seriously, never defrag an SSD!
What could happen if i do? (I have done it about 2 or 3 times before D:)
What about Ocz's Revordrive PCIe SSd's?
they're great if you get them for a good price
I want to get 4 sdd's in raid. recommendations?
No trim included, but good for rich people.
What could happen if i do? (I have done it about 2 or 3 times before D:)
It will reduce the lifespan hugely.
Defragmenting an SSD will make a lot of unnecessary writes, significantly reducing its lifespan.
No trim included, but good for rich people.
Intel is making progress toward TRIM on RAID 0 configurations.
Defragmenting an SSD will make a lot of unnecessary writes, significantly reducing its lifespan.
I don't think "significantly" is the right word, as you could probably defrag once a day and your SSD would still make it to the 5 year mark. The real reason you don't want to defrag is that it's just a waste of time. They have an average access time of 1-3 milliseconds so fragmentation is literally fucking irrelevant.
Avoid Sandforce (reliability and performance on incompressible data) and get anything by Crucial, Intel or Samsung
Can you provide a source for this info? I haven't heard anything like that before.
Can you provide a source for this info? I haven't heard anything like that before.
Review was done literally 9 days ago so the data should still be relevant. I ordered a OCZ Agility 3 120GB SSD, is that a mistake? Should I change my order to a Crucial M4 SSD 128GB for $40 more?
Was thinking about getting a small (100GB~ or so) SSD to replace my laptop HDD, since I only use this for writing, web browsing, chatting and skype. I have terabytes of storage on my desktop for my photography work. Is there a big reliability jump from HDD to SSD?
I don't think you made a mistake, but others here may disagree. It's still a good drive.
The Agility is technically faster, but it's Sandforce Vs. Marvell, and Marvell has that track record of reliability. Either way you *should* be fine.
I've had some trouble with my computer that I suspect might be my Agility 3. It would fail to boot, and it didn't get noticed in the BIOS until I cleared the CMOS. Might have been the SATA cabe as well, though, as it bended in a 90 degree until I changed it, and I haven't had any problems yet. I've got OCZ support in my head at all times, though.
Ok, the order just got shipped so I can't do anything about it now. Thanks!
You probably won't have any problem with it, as while it's more error-ridden than other drives, the largest share of the drives are just fine.
error-ridden? lol
I'm happy with my 60GB Agility3. Just had some issues in the beginning, but updating to firmware v2.15 (Which is really easy, there's a special linux distro that you just put on a flashdrive and run the update from there) fixed everything.

I haven't had much trouble with my agility 3, sometimes the firmware will randomly crash, causing the computer to lock up, but this hasn't happened for awhile. I only wish I could say the same about my FOUR vertex 2's I went through, I just gave up getting them sent back for new ones, and bought the next cheapest option.
Is there a big reliability jump from HDD to SSD?
I'd say it's more of a jump in the other direction, the speed alone makes up for it though.
I'd say an SSD is more reliable than a HDD, as in shock resistance etc.

No moving parts etc

I've always kept the firmware up to date though. Did they not work at all or did they crash all the time? Did you ever try updating the firmware?
Wow, I feel lucky now. I've always kept the firmware up to date though. Did they not work at all or did they crash all the time? Did you ever try updating the firmware?
I kept the firmware up to date on all of them, however I downgraded to a couple of older firmware versions to see if it would be more stable running them. (which it wasn't) One of them got delivered dead, the other three kept crashing for no reason at all. The last one I put in before giving up I put up with random crashing for about a month, at the end of the month it was completely dead. Another thing that did come to my attention though, they were all the 34nm drives, OCZ stopped shipping these mid January and replaced them with 25nm drives.
