• Only 1.99Gb of RAM is available

I have recently noticed why my performance is running so low...Only half of my RAM s being recognised, i should have realised this when Windows gave my RAM a rather depressing score of 5.5 (pretty poor for supposedly 2x2GB of DDR3 RAM). Here is a small list of evidence for my 'missing' RAM: System: Installed memory (RAM) 4.00 GB (1.99 usable) System Information: Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 4.00 GB Total Physical Memory 1.99 GB Available Physical Memory 908 MB Total Virtual Memory 5.99 GB Available Virtual Memory 4.35 GB Page File Space 4.00 GB Oddly CPUID thinks i have 4096 MB of RAM, Same with DxDiag. Before anyone mentions it, i have tried different combinations of RAM in different Slots and A1, A2, B2 i dont think work. Should i send the motherboard back of are the socket chips bent, i can't decide! NOTE: 64 BIT OS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Do you have a 32-bit OS? EDIT FOR THE FUCKS THAT RATED ME BAD READING: he said it was a 64-bit OS later, after I posted.
Do you have a 32-bit OS?
Aren't 32-bit OS 3 gb?
Do you have a 32-bit OS?
Yup, this is the problem. Get 64-bit if you want to use all 4gb.
Aren't 32-bit OS 3 gb?
They're 4GB, not 3.
Aren't 32-bit OS 3 gb?
sigh http://www.facepunch.com/showpost.php?p=10565784&postcount=3
Aren't 32-bit OS 3 gb?
Yeah but there's some thing/techstuff i can't exactly remember, it's got something to do with the video ram.
sigh http://www.facepunch.com/showpost.php?p=10565784&postcount=3
There's the long story.
@OP post your specs
They're 4GB, not 3.
They're 4gb-GPU ram So unless op's gpu is 2gb, there's something wrong.
windows key + r> type msconfig then hit enter> boot> advanced options> make sure maximum memory is unchecked
Ok guys i better just UPDATE. I have 64-bit OS, im not that stupid i do know about OSs. I currently have a HD4850 512mb if that helps. Hope this can help you guys solve my problem!
read post above yours
trying it now :) just need to be able to restart, getting good downloads on steam, don't want to risk it [editline]06:46PM[/editline]
read post above yours
Nope this did not work :(
Check msconfig if you have limited your ram (msconfig/Boot/Properties/Maximum Ram) Make sure in the BIOS, PAE (Physical Address Extension) is enabled (even that this is for 32bit Os) if available and also make sure Memory Remapping is enabled if available. If this still does not work take out one ram and start the machine up to windows, then put it back. And make also sure you use the correct ram-slots.
PAE is crippled in Windows Client.
Yeah - Just allowing 4GB for x86 is MS's decision to cripple it, I know. My best bet here is on Memory Remapping and a false entry in msconfig.
sigh http://www.facepunch.com/showpost.php?p=10565784&postcount=3
sigh. i wrote that too within the first months of my being here...
Well even my mobo is only recognising 2gb
Is it possible to enable PAE on the installation disc, so that when i do a clean install of windows 32-bit, PAE is automatically enabled?
Its windows 7 64 bit!!!! I am just about to rings asus, hopefully they will have some great ideas :) [editline]09:51AM[/editline] Nothing, i rang their main line and it directed me straight back to the page i got their number from, anyone know a number for motherboard support
Is it possible to enable PAE on the installation disc, so that when i do a clean install of windows 32-bit, PAE is automatically enabled?
PAE doesn't work in Windows Client and I assume don't think you can from the installation disk prior to install. But no idea.
Well even my mobo is only recognising 2gb
If the mobo is only seeing 2gb, then it means either a stick is bad, the slot is bad, or the stick isn't in properly. Reseat the RAM and check again.
Sendin it back to overclockers.co.uk i think a DIMM slot is broken
Sendin it back to overclockers.co.uk i think a DIMM slot is broken
Good plan. Is there another computer you can test the RAM in, just to be safe?
Unfortunately no , but both ram sticks work just not in the 3 DIMMs
Well Guys, Good and Bad New. After looking on the internet, i found that Windows 7 may be prioritising my RAM for quicker App Boot (So i have read). I think my PC never had a problem, after all CPU-Z shows Dual Channel to be working. SORRY I WASTED YOU GUYS TIME!!!!
I recently fixed this problem, it seemed to be the pins on the socket for the cpu, now my FPS are hittin the roof!
32 bit Windows server operating systems generally support more than 4 GB of RAM in a system, the only limitation is that processes are limited to 4 GB of RAM. So if you had 6 GB of RAM, you could have 3 applications using 2 GB of RAM, but not one application that uses all 6 GB. I have a dual Xeon with 6 GB of RAM and Windows Server 2003 and Windows can see it all.
i have just said i solved the problem XD
Were your Ram sticks seated properly? :buddy:
