What about it?
Some things (primarily Microsoft things, granted) use it. Occasionally I encounter the need for it.
I never encounter ActiveX.
The only time I ever need to use IE is when I need to go to Windows Update site.
And thats almost never.
I don't think I could ever use IE again since whenever I look at the logo I just think "Urgh.."
What do you mean "urgh"? e = Internet because of Explorer. Can't fault the logo.

Out of all the excuses...
Too bad if you're still designing in any remotely professional capacity you'll still be designing sites to run under IE6 for at least a few more years
Why? IE6 is unsupported by Microsoft now, it's unsecure as shit, and it can't render any recent code properly unless you put a lot of effort into getting it backwards compatible.

I'm not wondering why Microsoft has no image of Peacekeeper on their testdrive site.
Remember, IE9 isn't even in beta yet.

IIRC, IE6 is supported until 2014 because it comes/came with XP, though admittedly I'm not entirely sure what constitutes as support there

No IE6 support ended a few weeks ago (March 1st). IE support doesn't go with Windows support.

I know that.
I doubt that IE9 will be good enough for me to switch to it. It would have to beat Firefox, Opera, and Chrome in order for that to happen.
Regardless, I'm glad that it's looking good since a depressingly large number of people use IE without knowing any better. At least now they won't be using the shittiest browser ever made.
I absolutely detest explorer, I hate the feel of it for some reason. I'll stick to firefox.
(Interesting, because Firefox's UI is an outdated, patched up IE clone from what I can tell.)

The feel?
