Putting younger brother on the internet, want to make it "child-safe".

Just get windows 7 and put the parental controls on, I think there's site blocking in there.
Protip: If you block stuff, they will find a way around it.
Maybe that's good though, teaches them to problem solve and fuck around with stuff.
Allow only xvideos.com threw the firewall.
In all honesty there isn't anyway to block everything.
While you're at it, install chrome / firefox / opera for him and tell him to use that.
Why would the kid look up porn if he is afraid of it? He wont see porn if he doesn't click anything relating to it.
OP, use OpenDNS and use their page blocking feature.

There's things on the internet that aren't porn but kids still shouldn't be seeing it.
how do you expect kids not to be total morons if they're blocked from learning anything

seriously. if i didn't have porn and the majority of other "bad things" i'd be another hollister wearing dipshit teenager who doesn't know shit about anything. i'd be one of those idiots on facebook who types like "omg!!! u ur totaly my bff!! haha :)"
fuck that noise.

on the other hand: if you didn't have porn, you would most likely not be wasting your life on Facepunch.
keep him away from facepunch

essentially. but i can almost guarantee that facepunchers (on average, in the sections that i visit anyway) are smarter than average people. so, worth it.

this may as well be an autism support forum

I know this wont help, but believe me, there is no way you can prevent access to bad websites at all.
You can mark 1 or 2, but you wont be able to mark them all.
Easier to just let him learn IMO.
ELSE, you could setup your router to block such websites.
He's 14, and he's not on the internet yet?
What the hell is wrong with you?

I got my first pc when I was 15 :saddowns:
I think physically watching him will be your best bet. Plus if he gets an error you can teach him how to fix it, so there are some pros to doing this the old fashioned way.

he could always blacklist everything and only whitelist certain websites.
Overprotective older brothers. You're like a parent who blocks websites for their kids. This is stupid.
My cousin is 11 and he browses uncensored net and seems to be ok.
seriously, you're not helping them at all. your intentions are good but you're doing it wrong.
It doesn't matter how sensitive he is, if he doesn't get used to it now he'll be a complete loser later on when he is just happens to see it - it's the type of thing where you should see it when you're young so you're not sitting there when you're like 15 freaking out and everyone else has been exposed to it for years.

says someone with a bunch of alternate accounts because he can't stay away from FP during a ban.

I am totally capable of staying away from fp during a ban. I just hit up the imageboards.
Mostly pornographic (youngest brother is extremely sensitive, he once saw a censored sex scene on a DVD and cried for days because of it... very strange)
I'll be running their PC with a bandwidth limit (75KB/s down 15KB/s upload) to prevent them overwatching youtube videos and wasting bandwidth.
I'm also considering setting up comodo anti-virus, for the sandbox technology.
This is why you shouldn't install it. It was probably because he's been trained all his life by his parents that seeing something like that is bad, and even though it doesn't have any real emotional impact on him in specific, he probably acted that way because you or one of his parents was nearby. In reality, he probably doesn't see anything wrong at all with it.
"sex is bad"
lol.

Then why the alts? I'm asking seriously, not attacking you like that other guy seems to be doing.

If you haven't noticed, there's a certain stigma attached to it; especially when you're very young.
I started using the computer when I was like 6
Think of the children!
Why not just let them learn the hard way.
Crash course with meatspin, lemonparty, mylazysunday, Encyclopedia Dramatica's offended page and they'll be ready for the wonders of the Internet.
Take this from a 21 years old guy who's the youngest and who was the most overprotected kid in the family. (My childhood was spent in an arab war-torn country and my teenage/early adulthood, currently, is spent in a violent neighborhood controlled by the Italian Mafia in Montreal):
Do not restrict their access to anything. Never punish your kids for smoking. Never forbid your kids to explore things you think is "too early" for them. The more you restrict them, the more they will want to circumvent your restrictions to do it. The more my dad would punish me for smoking, playing with guns, etc, the more I'd do it to piss him off and just because it was "that thing you're not supposed to do but man it feels so badass to do it".
Seriously. Let them explore the world, warn them of the dangers of the internet, tell them the risks of revealing personal information and trusting strangers online, but otherwise give them their freedom and tell them you're always there to offer advice if they need it. Teach them how to react to people that bother them on the internet, but strictly blocking their access to certain websites is completely retarded.
I perfectly understand you are their older brother and feel a responsibility to ensure their safety and that's very admirable and almost cute really, but there are better ways to do it than radically censoring the world from them.

this one is for use on other computers (ie a friends house) or when v2 and v3 are banned, V2 was because the first one got perma'd, V3 was because of a rather lengthy ban on V2, and the rest are gimmick accounts.
jesus, I was 14 last year and I've seen some pretty fucked up shit. It's no big deal, bestiality is part of life
