Netbook + 3(.5)G modem.
Try typing in the IP address of the site.
Go to command prompt and type in tracert <website>
It will tell you the IP of the site and just copy and paste that into the address bar. If your school blocks command prompt just use a batch script.

I've been trying to use those for my friends website but they won't work, times out before it gets to his website. Tried nslookup but its giving me dyndns's thruhere.net domain.

OP, if you can't find the IP address of the website download wireshark, and tell it to capture on the NIC you use. It automatically converts the website's name to a IP address, meaning you can browse and then later look at their IP address without going through whois and that stuff.
I'm not sure how your school blocks things, but mine uses OpenDNS and to get around it all I have to do is change my DNS servers on my computer or on a school computer.
