Thanks for all the helpful input, and yes reapaninja, that's my computer. Since I can't use the 9800gt, what is the best video card that is compatible with my computer? I have close to $300 that I was saving up for my 9800gt. Also, if this is any importance, I'm running 32 bit Windows XP Media Center Edition and have a dual boot with Xubuntu and Puppy Linux. (Which is 3, but dual boot is a good enough phrase.)
What the fucking christ? You were gonna spend $300 on a 9800GT? Please don't tell me you were buying this from Best Buy.

You owe me 200$ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150316
I'm running an 8800GT on 400W when I ordered it, they told me I'd need a £150 700W (shit brand) PSU :awesome:
I got 650W which runs the 8800 GT, I haven't noticed any trouble.
why would you notice trouble from having way over the minimum :downs:
Yeah, I was. Is that bad? Again though, can anybody recommend a graphics card that is definitely going to be compatible with my system?
I'd say get a new power supply and a 4850.
I'll look into that. Can anybody give me one that I 100% know will work? And if so, can you provide a link to where to buy one at?
Since you're limited to PCI and PCI-E x1, about the best you could get would be something like this or this, don't know which is better.
I'd say get a new power supply and a 4850.
From Newegg, so you're not paying out the ass.
I'd say get a new power supply and a 4850.
He doesn't have a PCI-E x16 slot. Edit: ninja
Wait, OP only has PCI-E x1 and PCI slots? Damn. [editline]03:35PM[/editline] Ninja'd. [editline]03:39PM[/editline] Looking at a CNet video of it, this computer has a BTX motherboard, meaning if he did a motherboard + CPU upgrade, he'd need a new case. If I were OP, I'd be aiming for mobo+RAM+CPU+case+PSU+video, which could be done for $400.
Can you link me to what you mean? I'm not good with hardware, and I don't understand most of what's on the page. If you could that would be great.
How soon could you get $400?

It's like asking which turd from the bottom of a Port-A-Potty looks the best.
My brother has a similar Dell which I just put a 7600 in. I don't see why you shouldn't be able to put in a 9800, although I knew it was compatible from the fact it came with a 7300. :/
what I did with my shitty HP computer was to find a 1200watt PSU I had laying around and put it outside the computer (it was too big for the inside) and just have that power the graffix card and nothing else :D
