Hey, can anyone test Garry's Mod and see if it's working properly? I'm getting weird errors and I'm trying to figure out whether it has to do with Windows 8.
I booted gmod up just quickly, everything is fine.
Beautiful wallpaper - where do I get it? :) [editline]12th July 2012[/editline] This page offers what appears to be a cropped version :( http://www.wallpaperfo.com/Color/Green/green_mountains_landscapes_nature_autumn_wild_waterfalls_1920x1200_wallpaper_38903
http://epicscenery.com/dragon-falls-venezuela There you go.
I was thinking about trying Windows 8 Beta for my primary OS, I did when 7 was in beta. Should I?
I am actually on my gaming rig, works perfectly fine. Love it, actually!
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2727113/en-us This update was pushed trough windows update today/yesterday. I really haven't seen that freeze issue since.
Does anyone else have this odd freezing issue with IE as soon as it's launched? It occurs frequently, but not always for me.
http://epicscenery.com/dragon-falls-venezuela There you go.
Thanks alot!
Just got everything setup and my God is it beautiful. So far I am really enjoying it and don't regret trying this out.
Does Windows 8 suffer from the 1:00am Aero disable that 7 does? I'd like to think they might have fixed this
Does Windows 8 suffer from the 1:00am Aero disable that 7 does? I'd like to think they might have fixed this
What are you talking about?
What are you talking about?
I believe he's referencing the Windows Experience Index rescan Windows does every day at 1AM unless you disable that feature.
Does Windows 8 suffer from the 1:00am Aero disable that 7 does? I'd like to think they might have fixed this
This is actually caused by the Windows Experience Index tests running silently but failing to update the index value for some reason making it think it didn't run and schedules it again for the next day. It usually happens after updating graphics drivers. When this happens end the tests process and then run the test manually. It shouldn't happen again until you update your graphic drivers.
Oh I didn't realise that is what it was doing. Cheers
Is there a torrent for the release candidate? My connection is slow as shit and it seems the browser download was mysteriously terminated 2,00 GB in :I EDIT: Downloader doesn't show it as cancelled but if the finished file is just 2 gigs I can safely assume something went wrong, right?

There's torrents on TPB. (Make you download the 2.44 GiB for 32-bit or the 3.27 GiB for 64-bit.) EDIT: Also, the good thing about torrents is that you can resume your partially downloaded file instead of having to start all over again by doing a "Force Re-Check". Let me know if you need help doing this.

I didn't even have to do anything; µTorrent pointed the ISO download to the same folder as my browser and since the files had identical names it just continued on the half-finished browser-downloaded ISO! [editline]15th July 2012[/editline] Made a 35-gig partition on my SSD, my spirits are now rising proportionally with the torrent completion percentage.
Most modern torrent clients do this by default (Deluge does it, and I know utorrent/bittorrent do too) also deluge is best torrent client
i'm pretty that's like half the point of torrents in the first place. i don't know of a single client, ever, that didn't allow for it since it's pretty integral to how the protocol works.
Yeah, it's just that when I downloaded the torrent, I downloaded it to a different directory and the filename was different, so I had to do a few more steps to get it to work. [editline]15th July 2012[/editline] Welp, I finally upgraded from CP to RP. Everything is a lot... flatter. But nice. My Windows Update works again.
Does this run better for gaming than windows 7?
Does this run better for gaming than windows 7?
I haven't compared myself, but I do know that there's a couple of games that have issues on Windows 8, so it's probably safest to stay on Windows 7 for now.

Argh, running into problems with Steam. Moving games around has always been easy but recently it seems like Steam will ignore any game files present (from a manual backup copy) and always download the game anew upon installation instead of verifying any files already present and only proceed to download what's missing. It doesn't do that now however, I have all the necessary files for the games in place and I'm doing a symlink between the old and new "common" folder, but how can I trick Steam into thinking a game is installed? I'm assuming it can be done through registry editing, but how?

Some newer Steam games use one acf-file instead of ncf-files which are then called appmanifest_ID.acf where ID is the AppId of the game which you can determine easily by looking at the Steam Store URL.
So this is a little annoying. The Store tile tells me that I have one app update, and when I enter the app it says I have one update in the top right. Now, when I click to get to app updates it says "no updates available." Any ideas? Update the updater

I wonder, would it be possible to symlink the whole steamapps folder?
Does this run better for gaming than windows 7?
Some games like Battlefield 3 get slight fps bumps. The only game that doesn't work that I tested is LA Noire.
I have had no compatibility problems here Other than my audio driver panel, but that might actually work now
I have had no compatibility problems here
Me neither, none severe atleast. Speccy crashes but who gives a shit about that. The only real problem I've had so far is that Win8 doesn't seem to like my multi-monitor setup. The pointer frequently gets stuck on the edge between the displays (extended desktop), and a few times before I reach the login screen the system can't decide what screen to use so it flickers back and forth.
