If you use an online account for Win8, what happens if you turn on your computer and you have no internet connection?
I've been using the consumer preview right up until today, I can safely say it is incredibly stable
True, it was pretty stable, but it was missing a lot of in-box drivers (like video driver for first-gen Intel HD graphics)
started backing up all of my steam games and whatnot to an external (woooooo usb2 transfer speeds!) and I'm gonna slap RP on here as my main OS then
If you use an online account for Win8, what happens if you turn on your computer and you have no internet connection?
You get logged in but cannot access the internet. Makes sense, no?
You get logged in but cannot access the internet. Makes sense, no?
I think what this gentleman is trying to say, without sounding like a jerk, is that you'll be able to log in because the profile is stored in a cache on the hard drive, but you won't be able to access any of the Internet-enabled features.
I like Windows 8 so far, the new Aero UI is beautiful and everything feels a lot snappier than 7. And while I do like the Metro UI, I'm definitely won't be using it like a start menu. Yes, it has some nice functions; the Mail app and whatnot, but I don't think I'll be seeing myself launching programs from it and using Metro apps day to day. It just isn't as practical as Aero. I'm looking forward to seeing what apps do come from it though, because it seems like a nice thing to play with now and again. Other than that, it's great. File transfer is faster, it found my network drivers during the installation, and it's nice and stable. Also for $40 on release, you can't really go wrong.
I've grown to like the Start Screen. I finally deleted all the shortcuts off of my desktop and put them all on Start instead. That way they're only visible when I need them.
I won't like the new start menu until there are good icons for everything. The current implementation is ugly.
That's my only nitpick about em. I wonder if you could simply make your own start menu icons. I guess it would be as easy as taking an HD picture of the logo/product and cropping/scaling to a nice size and using that as the icon.
Okay it's took me just over an hour to begin to love the new start menu. I need to learn to be less skeptical about things before I try them :v:, I also really really like the music app. And yeah, it would be nice to be able to make your own icons for non-metro apps. They look really ugly at the moment.
I'm planning on jumping over to Win8 CP later tonight. One question though, does anyone have any experience with battery life on laptops? The google results not run by retards who forget to install drivers or compare a fresh win7 install to an upgrade from 7 win8 install seem to claim an increase of 10 to 15 minutes. Also is it just as fast and smooth as the preview way back when?

It tells you when you have 10% then 6% then (on my laptop at least) dispays 0% but works for another ~20 minutes. Wat.
Still functioning at 0% battery? Sounds good, I'll end up installing it tomorrow.
Convinced my brother to install Win8 RP at his workplace' 52" Touch screen (Not projection) Will take videos.
Convinced my brother to install Win8 RP at his workplace' 52" Touch screen (Not projection) Will take videos.
You know what you've got to do next, right? Rip the thing off the wall, take it home, and let the rest of the server borrow it for a week at a time.
I like how the Music app does this: [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/5003648/New%20folder/Capture.PNG[/t] but I don't understand this: [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/5003648/New%20folder/Capture2.PNG[/t] I have a few of my own albums in the background there, but it's also picking up shite like Chris Brown and Adele. Is it just mixing together album artwork that I have on my computer and pop album artwork? or do I just have a bad taste in music and Daft Punk is considered pop music these days
Has anyone worked out how to get WMP to play stuff over the network yet short of using offline folders? That's one of the big things that's stopping me from migrating to RP
It shows random album art from the store and not just the album art you have like it does in Zune.
That's pretty stupid. While I haven't used the Music app myself, it feels like a step down from Zune.

Like: \\Server computer name here\Music folder here Open WMP, Go to Organize>Manage Libraries>Music/Video/Pictures In the dialog click "Add" and select the Mapped drive with what it is you want to add, then browse to the stuff's folder.
You mean this?
What are the hardware requirements for it? I want to know if I can slap it on my 16GB flash drive or if I need a 32GB drive for it.
What are the hardware requirements for it? I want to know if I can slap it on my 16GB flash drive or if I need a 32GB drive for it.
32 GB EDIT: 16 GB is possible but you will have almost no free space for programs. (Also you might have to install it manually using imagex.exe; I don't know whether the GUI allows 16 GB)
32 GB
fudge I'll still consider it though
fudge I'll still consider it though
See my edit; it could work, but you might have to use a manual method like this (doesn't require Enterprise AFAIK)

I know you guys probably won't agree, but I have to say it; I think the old aero theme looks much better. The new aero is too simplified, for me it's a step back. Also, they need an option to make the task manager look advanced permanently. I mean that simplified thing is great for Joe Everyman, but I need something that I have control over.
It opens in advanced mode ever since I pressed the more details thing
It's not doing it for me, it keeps going back to simple.
