It's not doing it for me, it keeps going back to simple.
Works for me aswell.
Are you using windows 8 RP?
I love the Pin to sign in feature soo much.
I wonder if the RP works with finger scanners yet :o

A lot of metro apps just show up as a black screen, sound plays and all but nothing shows
So, I wanted to try Windows 8 but will there be any problems if I install it on my SSD with Windows 7?

If you make a new partition then it should be fine
You can also upgrade

On the Start screen, you can name groups by zooming out with CTRL+MouseWheel and then right clicking a group. You can also drag whole groups to reposition them.
The only thing that's really lacking is an option to right-click a group and sort it alphabetically. (Phone launchers usually don't have this feature, because you usually have a few apps per screen that you recognize by icon and you know where to tap by muscle memory, but for a desktop system with lots of programs, alphabetical sorting is still useful.)
I've done this, but its kind of a pain. If I remember right you have to add folders to your library from a network drive.
Like: \\Server computer name here\Music folder here
Open WMP, Go to Organize>Manage Libraries>Music/Video/Pictures
In the dialog click "Add" and select the Mapped drive with what it is you want to add, then browse to the stuff's folder.
Sorry, by WMP I meant Metro Music. Music appears fine in WMP, but Metro Music just whines that I have no music and should buy some from the marketplace before they sue me
In the music app, just right-click anywhere, click "Open files", then click on "Files" at the top and then "Network".
Thinking about formatting and going to 8, Thing is i would like to see some acutal previews and info on the new metro. I do use the start menu only for the programs that pop up that i frequently use otherwise i have objectdoc and ofcourse my quickicons so i'm assuming if i just get use too not using my start menu for the 3 or 4 programs i click from there i should be good?

This is exactly what I did, it worked fine for me. Shrink the win7 partition and make a new one for win8 (I made it 35 gigs), and install. Then, to access your old files, you can set up the libraries to include the user folders on the win7 partition.

You won't really know if you like it until you try it, I hated the idea of the new start menu at first but after formatting to Windows 8 and using it for a few days I think it's great

This just loads individual files, and doesn't actually populate the library.
i dont see how it could be better than the old start. i assume it takes you 5x more time to move the mouse to whatever you want to open
Not really, bigger movements are easier to perform than smaller ones. You could literally throw your mouse cursor in the direction you want to go, and have a good chance of it being near what you wanted to click. I don't see how this would take more time than trying to precisely click on one small, menu option in the Start menu.
Why would you ever click on the start icons if you have access to a functioning keyboard?
EDIT:
Right, I click on Desktop sometimes. But it's right at the top of "D".
So does Windows 8 have a way to deal with high density displays like the new Macbook Retina display? I'm expecting those to start coming on laptops everywhere, but not if Windows just makes everything extremely small.
You've been able to hit Start, type the beginning of the program/file you're looking for and then instantly hit Enter to execute the first result since Vista.

Ive been using this feature since the DP, and people generally just look it over - suffice to say they shouldn't.

On top of what's already been said about big mouse movements, I would like to add that you'll be using the scroll wheel a lot. This means that you generally keep the mouse in the left side of the screen, moving it around in an area not much larger than the old start menu.
Seems like lots of efforts you have put in to this.Great work

Does anyone else have a problem with the Charms Bar appearing over your game when playing in Windowed Fullscreen? I like the alt+tabbing functionality of Windowed Fullscreen rather than just Fullscreen, but whenever I drag my mouse over the side of my screen, or over the start area, it pops up.

That's not happening for me on any fullscreen games.

Currently using windows8 on my gaming rig. I cannot confirm this on any fullscreen game.

It happens to me on The Walking Dead. So far it hasn't happened with anything else.
Also winunleaked has some RTM screens: http://winunleaked.info/threads/290-Windows-8-RTM-on-the-way?p=8240#post8240

He said windowed fullscreen. so its running in a window but its covering the entire screen.

I'm getting it in SC2. Also, even when it's fullscreened, the bottom left corner gets all fucked up for me and the camera won't move that way. If I right click on the corner, the game minimizes and the context menu pops up.

Also, I really can't pin an Excel file to Start? Fuck me.

I'm sure I saw Microsoft pimping that Windows 8 was going to have better scaling but I dunno how it works. The Retina Macbook can only achieve what it does because Apple rewrote nVidia's graphics drivers for OS X. I doubt Microsoft would do the same thing to nVidia on Windows.

I'm sure Nvidia would do that if retina came around for Non Apple laptops/desktops.
This was well timed, since this article just came out: http://arstechnica.com/apple/2012/07/windows-and-os-x-boot-camp-running-redmond-at-retina-resolution/
Apparently Windows 7 (and presumably 8) do have a 200% scaling option, but it is buried away.
Is it just me or does Windows 8 really not like Hardware Temperature programs?

I was under the impression that that was the same freezing bug experienced with other programs like Chrome that was fixed a couple of weeks ago, does it still happen with Speccy and such?

I've got all the updates installed and it just freezes and shit instantly.
You can actually just start typing and it will start instantly filtering the results. It's integrated with Run.exe
I didn't like the new start screen until I learned this, and now I love it!
The windows 7 one was better, if say you want to get to a setting that you don't know the exe name for, say you didn't know services was "services.msc" you used to be able to just type in say "services" and find it. You can still do that in Windows 8 but you need to manually change from apps to settings by clicking the icon or hitting the down arrow like four times.
I don't like metro apps, or that bar on the left. I don't have to use them though so that's fine.
