Is the leaked ISO just Enterprise or can you remove the ei.cfg to change the edition like in W7?
Its... Beautiful
I honestly wouldn't mind it if Microsoft killed the desktop in some way in the future. I always have icons hidden. Though it might turn into 3.1 if we keep going that route.
You know how in windows vista only the taskbar was transparent then someone made aeroglass, same story with windows8
What?
Panda, did you take the non-boot & rar it or run the ISO?
I extracted the files from the rar and ran setup.exe since I was dualbooting it anyway.
Is the leaked ISO just Enterprise or can you remove the ei.cfg to change the edition like in W7?
If you remove ei.cfg you'll need a key to install it so it's Enterprise N only.
OOBE has about a million ways of saying "installing." "We're getting your PC ready" "Installing apps" "Taking care of a few things" "Almost ready"
OOBE has about a million ways of saying "installing." "We're getting your PC ready" "Installing apps" "Taking care of a few things" "Almost ready"
I didn't get those last two.
I didn't get those last two.
Perhaps they're time based. I installed it on a relatively low powered laptop. Dual core processor with 3gb of RAM. Interesting note is that though I can't personalize Windows without activating it, sync still worked fine. It pulled my wallpaper and lock screen backgrounds during setup, but it won't let me toy with them on that machine itself.
So from what I gathered, the leak is 64x and Enterprise. You don't need to crack it but you can't use personalization? Do you guys recommend upgrading my windows 7 machine? [editline]3rd August 2012[/editline] I've heard this
Windows 7 Ultimate cannot be upgraded to Windows 8 Enterprise N. You can choose to install a new copy of Windows 8 Enterprise N instead, but this is different from an upgrade, and does not keep your files, settings, and programs. You’ll need to reinstall any programs using the original installation discs or files. To save your files before installing Windows, back them up to an external location such as a CD, DVD, or external hard drive. To install a new copy of Windows 8 Enterprise N, click the Back button in the upper left-hand corner, and select “Custom (advanced)”.
And also that you can't upgrade from 32x to 64x. Oh well back to waiting.
No.
That's stupid in more ways than one... That defies the whole concept of having a uniform interface. It doesn't match... At all.
So now Metro is dead and it is now officially "Windows 8 style UI". I love Microsoft's catchy names
Microsoft :rolleye: Always half-assing something. [editline]2nd August 2012[/editline] Apparently you can use the RTM theme in the RP. Curious as to how that looks.
You have no idea. I'm 100% sure you can reenable the glow around the titlebars somehow though. Like you, I did notice that you can make the drop-shadows thicker (which would also be nice...) so I'm sure it's possible.
OOBE has about a million ways of saying "installing." "We're getting your PC ready" "Installing apps" "Taking care of a few things" "Almost ready"
Reminds me of Maxis games.
Panda, does the OOBE "tutorial" go into more detail than "swipe from any edge" and "move your mouse into any corner"?
Nope, just says to move the mouse to any corner, then it'll just give a fancy "please wait" screen, with a background that cycles through different colors.
Anybody else getting constant amd display driver crashes? [editline]3rd August 2012[/editline] In other news, the metro chrome app is bad. [editline]3rd August 2012[/editline] Update: If you have an amd card, just use the wondows 7 drivers. They actually work.
Panda, does the OOBE "tutorial" go into more detail than "swipe from any edge" and "move your mouse into any corner"?
No. And it repeats 4 times for just the charms bar. They don't even tell you how to open the appswitcher on the left.

The ones for 8 just don't work.
The Windows 8 Nvidia drivers for my 580Ti are awesome, the drivers for my old GTX260 worked flawlessly as well.
Well duh, Nvidia is actually capable of making drivers.
Some people I know say windows 8 will not support steam, are their claims unfounded or did I not read the whole thread properly.
Some people I know say windows 8 will not support steam, are their claims unfounded or did I not read the whole thread properly.
It works perfectly for me. It worked under the Dev Preview, Consumer Preview, and Release Preview. I imagine it will still work with RTM.

Just waiting for that 32-bit Pro RTM to leak... Any day now. ...Any... day... now... ;~;
Some people I know say windows 8 will not support steam, are their claims unfounded or did I not read the whole thread properly.
They probably meant that, because Valve were bitching about it, they probably won't do a Metro version.
Windows 7 leaked the day it went RTM, wonder what the deal is. [editline]4th August 2012[/editline] Rafael Rivera posted a video of the OOBE tutorial. That is incredibly disappointing, although it does get the basics across. [hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEUunlvWR58&feature=player_embedded[/hd]

I like how in this screenshot there's 3 aero icons and 1 metro, I mean new user interface icon. Typical.
So I'm guessing this means windows server is going to have metro too? Wow.
So I'm guessing this means windows server is going to have metro too? Wow.
what else did you expect?
Is it true that Windows 8 also handles games better than 7. I know that the win apps take less resources and therefore it leaves more res to other apps but what do you think?
Microsoft should work on a proper firewall for windows server. But that'll never happen.
