I bought a refurbished Dell Latitude from newegg, how do I know if I qualify for the discount?

I don't believe refurbished counts. I think the details says "new" PCs only.
I don't know to what extent everyone here wants to customize 8, but I was up for a few hours last night speaking with a friend talking about Windows 8 modifications. He ended up making this: http://athenera.deviantart.com/art/Windows-8-RTM-Vista-theme-3-319108903
Which means Shell32 can now be modified again. Previously if you modified it in 8 you'd get a BSOD / Forced System Restore. As a test he moved the details pane to the bottom and colored the control panel sidebar.

YES

YES
This is the only thing that actually bothered me in the new desktop interface
The details pane is the best thing MS has ever added to Windows Explorer, but it wastes a whole lot of space when it's on the side

That is sexy. I love the dark blue/purple on white.
One could assume that new color sets can be added with a little dll tweaking. I think they were in earlier versions of Windows 8, although the ability to have more than one color in a background was not. With the new background patterns, I think Microsoft has added a way to display parts of the background as separate layers from the colorable portion.
Does anybody know how they're able to have the colorful abstract art? Is it a separate layer on top of the configurable color, or how does that work exactly?

8-bit color palette.
I remember when they did this with wallpapers a while back. It's like once a product is almost done they call up the most eccentric artists they can find and tell them to draw abstract art.
that's not really abstract art
Anyone got a link to that game compatability list thingy? Also, if I install the leaked version now can I input a legit key, get updates and stuff and not get buttraped?

I don't see why you couldn't so long as it's the same SKU.
Has 8 Pro leaked yet? I thought it was supposed to today.

It was out yesterday dude.

Windows 8 Enterprise N was leaked. That's like the most off version of Windows 8. It doesn't have a few features, and it doesn't include Windows Media Player.

Considering it's Enterprise N, it has everything except WMP.
However other SKUs have leaked. Pro and regular Enterprise.

Works like a charm in VirtualBox. I'll definitely be paying the $40 come October. I may still bitch about how I miss Aero glass blurring, but I'll live.

It runs like ass in VMWare, I might go install it in VBox tonight to continue digging around in it.

I've yet to have any major issues out of it, outside of the occasional vertical tearing, but that's probably just on my end really. It's worth the install on VBox. I'd really like to do a dual boot, but it's pretty useless given that it's the RTM and all. Might as well just wait.

Does this mean MSDNAA/Dreamspark also? I might give it a spin if it comes to MSDNAA next week :v:

Yeah, this link says Dreamspark Premium on August 15.

No, it was yesterday for me beause of time zones, sorry. You can find it on a certain bay for pirates tho.
Installed Windows 8 Enterprise-N x64 onto my laptop, and then proceeded to use the built in Windows to Go application available in the Control Panel to create a portable workspace using the Windows Image File (install.wim or whatever from the ISO), and got Windows To Go up and running on an external USB Harddrive enclosure housing a 70GB IDE harddrive. I then connected that external harddrive via USB to my main desktop computer, and booted into it.
It took a restart after running it the first time before it prompted me to put in my new username and computer name information. After I had the OS fully working on the external harddrive, I was pleasantly suprised that the performance is pretty good (for an externally enclosed USB-data-transferring harddrive.)
In fact, I am posting this message from that very Windows To Go Portable Workspace running from my external harddrive.
One of the things irking me is that I want to be able to personalize the start screen backgrounds to checkout those neat designs they have, but I can't because the OS isn't activated, and it will be forever before a KMS activator is out in the wild.
Agh why are there not more posts in this thread.
Why is there no tutorial on Windows 8. I am in thorough what the fuck mode. Everything seems to have carried over succesfully, I have full personalization. Because I have Start Menu 7 I have a Start Button on my second monitor, which I am using at the moment until I figure out what the fuck I'm doing.
What tutorial do you need? You have a new start menu which fills the whole screen, if you're really lost just go to the desktop
Pro is activatable now. Probably shouldn't post details.
All I can say is; Good bye Microsoft you've fucked up Windows so much that I have no to reason to use it. It'll be Windows 7 for next 6 to 10 years then all Linux. And if stuff isn't gonna work on Linux there is always Mac.

Uhh look, us linux users are all happy about this steam thing if that is what you mean, but Windows 8 is not bad from a naked look, i guess. And also, this isn't the thread to rant about Windows 8.

I think everyone wants the transparent/blur back on window chrome, and the white glow on the title-bar text so we can use black theme colors.

This is definitely the thread to rant about Windows 8, but at least be informed and have something to rant about. Simply stating "Microsoft fucked up" doesn't add anything and just makes you look like an idiot.

I have but one theory how to get transparency in Windows 8. Essentially the same way I managed to get transparency in Vista Home Basic. Though I'm currently waiting for a UxTheme patch.
