No windows 8 starter? YES!
Why the fuck would you get starter anyways unless you got it on a too fucking small netbook
Why the fuck would you get starter anyways unless you got it on a too fucking small netbook
I find it sad they produce such under-powered netbooks that can hardly handle a modern OS. Pathetic.
I find it sad they produce such under-powered netbooks that can hardly handle a modern OS. Pathetic.
It's not that they can't handle the OS, I think they put starter on it since start has that 5 application limit. This means that users won't try and load 20 applications in the background and still expect their videos to run at a full framerate. Edit: Actually, that limit was removed before it was released.. sorry I still don't really think it's that the netbook can't handle the OS though. I run windows 8 on my netbook and it runs fine, before that I ran windows 7 some middle edition and that also worked perfectly adequately.

But I still see modern netbooks being sold with XP on them too, and that just tells me the netbook is very underpowered, or the manufacturer just won't let go of the decade-old OS.
So today I tried installing Windows 8 on my VM. I am getting an 0x80070570 talking about missing or corrupt files. I've tried downloading all 3 distros and I get the same error for each one. It is also installing directly off the ISO so I can't be having any burn errors.
What VM software are you using?
What VM software are you using?
VM Workstation 8
VM Workstation 8
Let me try my copy (dev preview with apps) [editline]24th February 2012[/editline] Works on my end. Might need to hash your iso's and compare them with the hash's from microsoft
VS 2012's Dark Theme looks better than the light version in my opinion. Someone should make a thread dedicated to the next VS.

It looks.... so boring. So dull. There's no color at all.
The color scheme of the dark one reminds me of 3ds Max

Edit: Going to try to download it in IE and see what happens. Edit: Nope. Hash is still different.
I actually prefer the light (or light gray) version of vs 2012. Though would prefer it if the code window was also a bit more muted as opposed to harsh white.
I am not sure if you are aware of this, but .webm videos are already here, and that is more than enough for a decent replacement of flash VIDEOS. But flash in general has its purposes far beyond handling videos. I dont know where you got the idea that HTML5 is not already here, but, it is; just not massively being used yet, and is still being developed, but that doesn't mean it is not already being deployed on websites, and even Google has already switched youtube beta over to handling HTML5 videos.
Considering HTML5 is scheduled to be completely finalized in 2023 or something equally ridiculous, it has nothing to do with people not knowing that 'HTML5 is done' but rather that it's not anywhere close to being done at all and that you are just wrong. Things could change, and HTML5 just can't replace Flash yet for some things.
I find it sad they produce such under-powered netbooks that can hardly handle a modern OS. Those netbooks definitely can handle a modern OS like Linux, it's the other ones they have trouble with... Welcome to Windows 8, where everything is blocky and bland again.
lol I'm sure this point made sense / was relevant in your head
Considering I wrote it, verified it, then clicked "Post Quick Reply"... I'd say that statement is accurate. Just because a netbook can't run Windows 7 Ultimate doesn't mean it's underpowered. If Windows is our baseline for resource consumption on netbooks, we're fucked.
Welcome to Windows 8, where everything is blocky and bland again.
You seem to realize this every few pages, and it's equally shit every time.
You seem to realize this every few pages, and it's equally shit every time.
Well it seems like I'm the only person realizing Microsoft is seriously lacking in the art department. "Lets draw an OS out of MSpaint and call it Windows 8, lol"

If you have a strong love for overblotty visual themes then be free to say so, but there's no reason to say that metro looks crap. Because you feel it needs at least a few lens flares.
Bad ram and or hard drive. your choice.
I downloaded a copy from another source as a RAR and this copy works great. I am also confident that my hard drive and ram is fine. Either way I got it working, thanks nonetheless.

They just need to make the desktop environment use Metro themes (instead of Apple wannabe glass deviant art reject bs) and Windows would have the best GUI ever. But MS always fails to be consistent.
I wonder how long it'll take for someone to release a custom Aero theme :v:.
I wonder how long it'll take for someone to release a custom Aero theme :v:.
As soon as someone makes a uxtheme patch, I'll be on it in a day.
Ah I think I know what my problem with the dark theme vs2012 is now looking at it closely. It's the fact that they use the same icons across both themes. The ones on the light theme also have the border but it fades better into the background making them look at lot more sleek. The dark theme icons, instead of being inverted have that border which makes them look really really fat. it also kinda makes the icon details mess up.
