So, what are the methods available currently to get a more traditional start menu?
It hasn't been updated since last month, so it might not work with the RTM build.

I kind of like the Win7 explorer in Win8 thing, but I assume that will revert the file explorer thing into the Windows 7 version too, since it's a component of explorer?
When I get Win8 Pro RTM installed on my laptop, I'll check both Start8 and ViStart.

Only the taskbar and startmenu revert. Explorer file browser is still 8's.

Does it work with Pro RTM? Because if it does, that's what I'm bloody using then.

Yeah.
Right, I may have a problem.
I followed the instructions, but the damn thing says my explorer is 32-bit, even though I copied it from SysWOW64.
And because I'm sleepy, and thus borderline retarded, I followed along and installed it. Now when I boot it, it just gives me the Windows 8 file explorer on boot, with a black background.
I reverted it back now, so it works again, but yeah, it keeps saying my 64-bit explorer is 32-bit.
I have the release preview installed. If I uninstalled it and installed the RTM, would that be a good choice? Would I have to reinstall the whole Windows 8 again if I ever bought the full version or is the RTM the same as the one thats going to be released in October.
So, I used the repair disk to fix my MBR
It uses the vista launcher for some reason now...
Still runs fine though, so I'm not complaining.
The vista launcher is so ugly. (Happened to me aswell.)
Also when it happened to me I had a HDD in with vista that was installed on a 6 year old dell. Thought it was booting from that and laughed right until the moment it didnt take 30 minutes to boot.

SysWOW64 contains 32-bit files. System32 contains the 64-bit files you need.

Argh, the OP on the Neowin post says you need to get the files from SysWOW64.
K, I'll do that now.
Edit: System32 didn't have the files, so I just grabbed explorer from %WINROOT% and the other file from %WINROOT%\en-US, that worked.
Thanks.
I love Microsoft's brilliant naming schemes.
folder with 64 is for 32 bit, folder with 32 is for 64 bit, isn't it obvious :v:

Since WOW means Windows on Windows, maybe it means System32 for Windows(32) on Windows64.

soooo... system windows on windows 64?
soooo... system windows on windows 64?
Yeah... Still doesn't make any sense.
It's controlled via the msstyles, if you want I could make an edit for you, what color do you want the text?
I'd like white but that wouldn't work with the inactive window color. Blah. I don't know any color that would work.
WOW64 is the subsystem that emulates Windows (32) on Windows 64. System32 is where the native files are (even on 64-bit), and it just has a stupid legacy name that couldn't really be changed without breaking stuff.
The Win7 explorer thing seems to break some Bluetooth functionality (Show Bluetooth Devices and Add a Bluetooth Device give an error that says "class not registered"), but other than that, it seems fine.
I still managed to pair my phone by opening up Control Panel, looking for Bluetooth and choosing Add a Bluetooth Device under Devices and Printers.
After that, my phone shows up in Devices and Printers so I can control it from there.

I can't seem to find Windows To Go anywhere?
I heard it's supposed to be in System32\pwcreator.exe, but I couldn't find a pwcreator.exe anywhere on the computer.
Does Win8 Pro build 9200 not have it?

The creator only exists in Enterprise, but you might be able to get it working using the manual method.

There are different colors for both active an inactive, they're just the same by default.
Meh, don't need it really, just wanted to check it out.
Is it against the rules or not to tell activation methods...
Because I just got my Win8 pro activated and would like to share the exact method.

That watermark has went away now...
(non KMS activation method, at least can last 180 days...)

Is it considered warez to share the name of another forum that has less strict rules? And may have some information about activation?
Is it considered warez to share the name of another forum that has less strict rules? And may have some information about activation?
I guess I kinda did this in an earlier post... :pwn:
Is it considered warez to share the name of another forum that has less strict rules? And may have some information about activation?
I think sharing the name of another forum is okay, but directly linking to a page wich shows the activation may be illegal.
Im not really sure about this one. Maybe we could have some confirmation from the mods.
I decided to go into this thread:

That was a mistake. I know most of us come to this thread because we enjoy Windows 8 or we're at least interested in. But shit, there is no way some of the posts on the first page have even used it.
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
