My Xonar DX is running fine, and all the 7.1 shit works too.
Really, so CMP loads for you?
My desktop is painfully slow to use in comparison to my laptop now...
if i download windows 8 now, do i need to reinstall when the final version comes out?
As long as you install the RTM, you're fine. You'll be able to enter a legit serial when the time comes. :)
This is probably the best Win8 start menu mock-up I've seen yet:

It's like having WP7's home screen on the start menu. Neat.
I like the idea, but that could be executed better.
Honestly, I don't mind vanilla Windows 8 (with no start up button). It's easy to get used to it after you've fiddled around with the OS for some time.
Okay, so I got my copy of 8 from a source that shall not be named. Does the legitimate copy from Microsoft have a lot of restrictions? I am continuously prompted with entering an activation key by Windows at start up. I'd rather not have to keep doing that until late October, if possible. Also, I can't connect to Facebook accounts through messages and I think it might be due to inactivation.

You can't activate it (at least, nobody on here will directly tell you how). The only legitimate way to get a copy of RTM, if you don't have an MSDN or Technet subscription, is to get the 90-day trial version. 90 days will bring you into November.
EDIT: Oh, and nice Hipster Hitler avatar!
Working on a win8 UI, just for fun :)

Gonna make it functional later, CC? :)

User picture isn't centered.
Probably a dumb question, but if I install Windows 8 RTM, I should just be able to activate it when I buy Windows 8, without reinstalling the retail copy right?
Ya, not 100% finished, but forgot about that :)
I'm also going to get a proper "line" between videos and computer.
Windows XP was awesome? We have some revisionist history going on. Windows XP was so freaking insecure that it caused Microsoft to totally stop development of Longhorn to create SP2. They had to create the Trustworthy Computing Initiative such that all new code checked into Windows wasn't a security nightmare.
If you are going to call Vista "crap" because of performance pre-SP1, then we need to call XP crap because of security lapses.
And fuck, he is right. Until SP2 I just used Windows 2000.
So, uh, what has changed in the interface since i left at 12th of august in Windows 8?
Edit: I might try installing it in a linux netbook, doing a partition. Is it a good idea?
Netbook? Unless it had a resolution higher than 1024x768, no.
I have W8 Pro installed and activated on my virtual box and I must say, would it kill Microsoft to have rounded corners? Everything's so square. Also, they've completely buggered off gradients. Ugh.
I don't mind the operating system, but I just wish it looked like Windows 7 with W8's performance optimisations (Booting in 7 seconds? Yes please).
I absolutely despised the rounded gummy edges on windows 7. I'm so glad they ditched them.
They certainly could have looked a bit better, but it was better than the retro 3.1 look.
I could use Windows 8 but I feel a few tweaks would be nice:
An option to boot straight to desktop without having it open the "Library" folder (like regedit tweaks do)
A third party start menu that retains the basic feel of Windows 7 (Or could even look a little metroized)
-- That provides access to recently used and pinned apps
-- That gives me access to Shut Down, Restart, Sleep
-- That gives me access to Home Folder/Pictures/Music as well as My Computer and Control panel
-- That disables the "Metro" hot corners (Charms bar, etc)
Subtle gradients that are visually appealing
Rounded corners. OSX does it nicely, for example.
It wouldn't be much, but I personally feel it'd go a long way to the Windows 8 adoption rate because I feel that people appreciate a desktop environment since that's what they're used to while also appreciating the great performance that Windows 8 brings to the table.
I started to make a Metro app in 3 days, tell me what you think:

basically you want the entire new ui gone?
basically you want the entire new ui gone?
I want it optional, so I can use Windows 8 purely as a desktop if I want. (Read: Yes)
basically you want the entire new ui gone?
I'll be honest, the UI has curbed my enthusiasm. Unlike Windows 7, which I used daily since the beta, I'll probably be wait for Windows 8 to be out in the open a few months, around the beginning of 2013, to upgrade. Despite the debatable UI, the other general improvements are nice.
Windows 8 and Visual Studio 2012 are now on DSP.

Seems like Dreamspark is being practically DDoSed.
EDIT: Ugh, I can't even get an account on Dreamspark. Apparently my college has their own proprietary system for handing out MSDNAA licences, and it doesn't have Windows 8 yet.
Neat, got a Windows 8 key from Dreamspark. Thanks for the heads up, Panda.
I finally log in to Dreamspark and my account has expired. God damn, I'm still a student for another 2 months.
Well this is just great. I'm fucking glad I didn't have to pay to get 8. I won't install via DVD/USB and if you run from Windows 7 it only allows you to upgrade and not a fresh install. Sticking with 7 I guess.

Well that's pretty shitty :/.
Asus are awesome in every aspect but not when it comes to showing support for my soundcard. LAME.

I installed Windows 8 without upgrading the first time :S.

That would mean you would have to boot a linux live CD, format the drive with it, and then boot from the Windows8 USB Stick and install it?
Why would they do this?
