I assume someone will have an activator and cracked bootloader out soon though?
We don't talk about that here. It... rustles Garry's jimmies.
Fuck yeah, activated Windows 8 finally.

He controls the jimmies... he controls the rustling.

You could easily find info on that kinda of stuff elsewhere.

Fuck yeah, UK! (assuming you activated it the same way everyone else has been lately)
Is there a way to control the native ISO mounting from the command line (i.e. mount, unmount)? Google isn't being too helpful.
Fuck yeah, UK! (assuming you activated it the same way everyone else has been lately)
aha, you know it
mm baby tell me that confirmation id slowly
Fuck yeah, activated Windows 8 finally.
Please explain for us, we're dying to know. :3
Technet seems to have keys that are very limited in activation. I have one Pro key active on my Windows PC, but when I try to also activate it in a virtual machine on my Mac, it says the activation limit has been hit.
Damn it. At least there are other ways around it for now, I guess.
Alright, I've been using this for a few hours now. I like how snappy the OS is, and the small touches such as the simplification of the windows.
But.
I don't know why the fuck they've gone with the Metro interface with the desktop PCs. I don't really have anything against Metro itself, but it just doesn't work alongside the desktop environment. The fact that you can have an internet browser open in Metro but can't interact with it through the Desktop is fucking retarded, they've made zero attempt at unifying the two environments. Replacing the start menu with Metro has got to be the worst decision Microsoft have made in the history of Windows.
I'm also concerned about just how many people are going to be purchasing Windows 8. I just don't think businesses will want to invest a penny in to installing the OS on to their computers. It will waste a massive amount of time just so that people can become familiar with the new interface, never mind the amount of tech support people will need.
I'm going to stick with it for a few more days to see if I can get more in to it, but at the minute it just feels entirely unnatural and Metro is just working as an obstacle for me right now rather than improving the experience.
It feels dislocated, that's for sure, but if you don't see the new start menu as a a new environment to run new apps, but rather simply a start menu, I have no problem with it.
on the w8 RP and I have to say, really fucking disappointing how chrome uses no effort with the metro browser, it's just the windows replica..

You can get around this. First, install the product key from your TechNet using slmgr /ipk KEY, then disconnect the VM from the internet and go to the activation panel and choose activate by phone.
Now use Skype and dial the UK toll free number and follow the instructions.
Should work just fine.
Woah holy shit IE10 metro goes really fast
I think it isn't final. But why would they move it out of the dev channel if it wasn't final.
At any rate I hope Microsoft bars it from the market in its current state.
microsoft actually made it so browsers are excused from being forced into the metro design scheme
But IE Metro should set the standard of how they're viewed on w8
and I'm starting to use IE metro more holy shit help me
I've not used Metro since installing ClassicShell, this is how Windows 8 should have been.
Is there any way I could install Windows 8 Pro on my computer now and activate it with a retail key when it comes out? Or should I just wait two months and upgrade from Windows 7? I'll likely be buying legitimate copies since they're cheap and I might get a student discount.
I'm saving $40 for the upgrade anyway, hopefully moving from rp to pro won't be a pain in the ass
If anyone here is a Computer Science student at a medium to large university/college, talk to your cs department people. They can usually give you access to the Microsoft Dreamspark website which lets you download cool shit like visual studio 2010/12 and windows 8 rtm for free w/ product keys.
That's how I got my copy of win 8 and activated it.

Almost all unis in the UK sign up to the MSDNAA/ Dreamspark Premium programs. So there is a very good chance that if you study a computing degree of any sort, you can get Windows for free through that. Totally worth looking into.
Also on a side note, the music apps volume fades whenever it's not in focus (I once managed to get it to stay up, but have no idea how nor can I replicate it) Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?
I know I can use a different player, like vlc, but I'd like to find a solution to this.
Is there any way that you can force links clicked in Metro to go to the desktop browser counterpart rather than the Metro browser? Chrome for Metro is useless and ugly, and all I end up doing is taking the link from Metro Chrome and moving it to desktop Chrome.

I'm not sure, but it could be related to this.

I can't find Win8 in my Dreamspark account.

It is on there, it launched the other day, I've already installed from Dreamspark yesterday.

Why it's right next to Windows 7.

Yeah you need premium to get free operating systems
Yeah you need premium to get free operating systems
The Server counterparts are on non-Premium Dreamspark though. Or were, at least. My faculty doesn't offer Dreamspark anymore, sadly (which is strange since I'm doing Computer Science, and a lot of other faculties at the same university DO get Dreamspark, or even Dreamspark Premium).

It varies greatly based on which school has access and what their licences entail. I get access through a cyber security program, for example, so all of my keys will activate 25 times, but I only get a single key to use.

Yeah, it's kind of random and not really enforced, as to who gets a Premium membership. At my college, they don't give out Premium memberships; they have their own proprietary system for giving out software and keys. We usually get stuff at least 3 months, if not 6 months, after it's officially released on Premium. I remember waiting for Windows 7, after installing Vista SP2, waiting for my college to give us keys to 7.
I wonder if my local colleges offer dreamspark or msdn accounts upon enrolling in their computer classes...
