Linux doesn't have a great enough marketshare for developers to be running over making apps, besides it should stay like that because linux is all about being open and on windows and mac, people generally don't care. I'm having problems with graphics driver on my hp dv6 which is now running Windows 8 RTM. Quick heads up on the system specs beforehand. The laptop in question is a HP dv6 purchased at the end of last year. It has switchable graphics between AMD Radeon HD 7400M and Intel integrated graphics. I had past issues on Windows 7 with the graphics driver that required a rollback to the mid 2011 driver to just keep the system stable. Just installed Windows 8 RTM, so far everything is perfect, other then the graphics driver. Windows 8 shows a included one is installed but sadly it's not working. I've tried downloading the AMD driver and it's not compatible. I tried the hp graphics driver and it's trys to install but the install fails right at the end, looking at the logs shows that it could not install the display driver. I've checked to see if Minecraft works but it does not even start.

You're only going to get full stability with HP drivers in Windows 7.
The only reason people are using Windows is because of the amount of software it has.
So much this, I'd be on either Linux or Mac right now if they had the same software windows has
the fact that windows 8 still uses NTFS should be something worth raging even more about imo god I wish I could use Linux instead of Windows, why game developers, why, save us Gaben
As a consumer, have you actually run into a problem that was caused by a limitation of NTFS? Moving to a new filesystem would cost so much money and development resources, that it would be pointless for Microsoft to even consider. 80% of the market has no idea what NTFS even is, or what its limitations are.

I still want to know what happened with that file system people dug up earlier in the year.
Back from a vacation to come back to WLM and see this sitting here: Apparently a release will come this week. Talking about Aero not 8888.

That condition stayed even after restarting my laptop.
Ooh, is that aero blur in Windows 8? Do want... But it's not stock, is it?
Some MS China employee put it back in.
Some MS China employee put it back in.
MS China... So it that going stock across the board, or China only?
Or he used 8888's DWM which still has blur in it.
Or he used 8888's DWM which still has blur in it.
Can this be patched back into an ISO? So after I install 8, I have Aero blur back in?
Holy shit. I didn't knew I had access to dreamspark brb downloading windows8 now.
Can this be patched back into an ISO? So after I install 8, I have Aero blur back in?
I imagine so since the WIM is just a full image of the install.

[editline]3rd September 2012[/editline] I'm interested actually since my teachers have one, what is your country, condition and selling price in AUD
I'm in the US. It's still in pretty good shape, I think there's a small scratch on the top of the lid and that's it. I haven't had it for more than 4 months. I bought it used ("Opened once") for about $1400 (Converted from US dollars, Google says roughly 1360 AUD) and I'm looking to get probably around give or take $900 (879 AUD) for it. It's a very rugged notebook, made of aluminum or some other metal. It's supposed to withstand crazy high temperatures and the keyboard is spill-proof. Of course, I haven't tried out any of that, but it's good to know.
So I'm encountering a slightly annoying issue. AMD decided to phase out support for the Radeon HD 4000 and below graphics lines in their monthly upgrade cycles, including drivers for Windows 8. As a result, I'm now stuck with the in-box drivers for this card. The only downside is that anything that uses LWJGL no longer enters accelerated mode. I've tried installing the Windows 7 drivers to no avail - the installer just reaches a point where it no longer progresses. If I uninstall the drivers this doesn't help, and rebooting just causes Windows to use its copies again. I don't quite get this - I had the Windows 7 drivers running *fine* on Release Preview, but now I can't even install them in compatibility mode. I'd post in tech support, but I doubt anyone except us are on 8 RTM. To reiterate, only games that depend on LWJGL are failing, though it's worth noting that I haven't yet tried a game that just uses the C++ bindings for OpenGL. All DirectX games are operating as normal and run fine.

I have to do this with my nvidia dev card, because the drivers check the device ID on my card, and the device ID of my particular dev card is incorrect. But manual installation works fine. Failing this, you could always try it in Windows 7 compatibility mode.

Has anyone else had issues with Windows 8 not being able to respond to Wake on LAN requests? W7 was absolutely fine in comparison. I've attempted to install the motherboard driver for my LAN card, disabled "Turn on Fast Startup" in W8 as well as confirming that the card has the ability to wake the computer up from the Device Manager properties.
