Went and upgraded my windows 7 to windows 8 pro. Not regretting it, windows 8 is fantastic. Somehow I cannot watch any youtube videos in firefox anymore though. Always get "an error occured" I can watch videos in IE just fine and I already tried uninstalling and reinstalling flash and even downgrading it to the same version as IE is running, nothing works. :\
try html5 mode?
try html5 mode?
I would rather not, html5 support on youtube is still not very good imho.
try chrome lol (no seriously tho, if you already tried reinstalling flash, then you might have to try making a new firefox profile; you can have two at the same time and if the new one works, then you can import stuff over) EDIT: oh, they have a new feature, reset firefox; it automatically makes a new profile and imports stuff

My windows clock keeps changing/stopping. I spent my day thinking it was 4 PM. What can I do to fix it?
My windows clock keeps changing/stopping. I spent my day thinking it was 4 PM. What can I do to fix it?
You dualboot?
Speaking of time zones: Why doesn't setup ask you for what timezone you're in anymore? I keep ending up with devices on Pacific time, and I end up having to manually change it after a day or two of wondering why time appears to be operating slower.
You dualboot?
Nope. Could it be the mobo battery?
So uh. I just realized that the copy of Windows 8 on my external drive is still the Consumer Preview. I wonder if there's an easy way to upgrade to the RTM...

No upgrade path. Which is really stupid. It can upgrade fully from 7, partially from Vista, but it can't upgrade from an OS that's newer than both of them.

Well this will be a pain then, I'll need to borrow another PC to install 8 to this drive fuck
I don't think the Consumer Preview was designed with Upgradability in mind
Why not? What's so hard about it? If you can upgrade from 6.0 ("Vista") and 6.1 ("7") why can't you upgrade from a build of 6.2 ("8")? [editline]7th September 2012[/editline]
Well this will be a pain then, I'll need to borrow another PC to install 8 to this drive fuck
Wait, why?

How hard is it to put in a time zone drop-down?
Not the only thing they fucked up in the setup. Im looking at you partition tool.
You can still shift+F10 and diskpart from setup, right?
You can still shift+F10 and diskpart from setup, right?
does that allow you to select on wich partition it should install?
does that allow you to select on wich partition it should install?
You use diskpart to create the partition scheme you want, and then (at least in windows 7 setup) you hit "refresh" at the drive/partition selection screen and pick whatever partition you created for the OS.
You use diskpart to create the partition scheme you want, and then (at least in windows 7 setup) you hit "refresh" at the drive/partition selection screen and pick whatever partition you created for the OS.
in my rtm setup. it didn't show me the drive selection.
in my rtm setup. it didn't show me the drive selection. [editline]8th September 2012[/editline] Yeah, looks like that method still works. [editline]8th September 2012[/editline] Granted, I did open that command prompt from the Win7PE tools screen (spam F8 before boot, "repair my computer") instead of the shift+F10 hotkey from the Windows 8 boot media PE, so the shortcut may have been removed (although I doubt they would), but otherwise yeah, you can just use diskpart to wipe disks/create/delete/expand/shrink partitions, so I usually just run a clean command to totally wipe the disk, create one primary partition covering the entire drive, mark it as active, hit refresh, and install Windows to it so it can't do its own strange little partition scheme and is forced to just use one full-sized partition.

This will come in handy.
Been using Windows 8 as my main OS for the past month or so. Well, whenever the RTM was leaked and I'm really pleased with it. I think they should have combined the Metro and desktop experience better but overall it's a faster Windows 7 and there's no reason NOT to upgrade with Start8 turning out to be really really good for people that are in love with the start button. My only concern is... why the fuck did Microsoft make the "Windows Store" Metro applications only? Like I was really excited about not having to go to CNet, SourceForge, Nvidia, Steam, RARLab.com every time I reformatted and I still think it's a great idea to have a Windows appstore for the desktop experience.
Its not? I thought they always intended to allow x86 desktop applications onto the store.
So far from what I understand, it's Metro only. Their guidelines only mention Metro applications too. [editline]8th September 2012[/editline] Disregard, found this on MSDN addressing the issue. http://blogs.msdn.com/b/windowsstore/archive/2012/06/08/listing-your-desktop-app-in-the-store.aspx
The windows store only offers apps that are compatible with all devices running windows8/windows phone8/windows8 rt
