So far from what I understand, it's Metro only. Their guidelines only mention Metro applications too. [editline]8th September 2012[/editline] Disregard, found this on MSDN addressing the issue. http://blogs.msdn.com/b/windowsstore/archive/2012/06/08/listing-your-desktop-app-in-the-store.aspx
The thing I would like is also updates through the Windows store - it might just be me, but having all my updates in one place would be nice.
Been using Windows 8 as my main OS for the past month or so. Well, whenever the RTM was leaked and I'm really pleased with it. I think they should have combined the Metro and desktop experience better but overall it's a faster Windows 7 and there's no reason NOT to upgrade with Start8 turning out to be really really good for people that are in love with the start button. My only concern is... why the fuck did Microsoft make the "Windows Store" Metro applications only? Like I was really excited about not having to go to CNet, SourceForge, Nvidia, Steam, RARLab.com every time I reformatted and I still think it's a great idea to have a Windows appstore for the desktop experience.
Ninite.com?
The windows store only offers apps that are compatible with all devices running windows8/windows phone8/windows8 rt
It also offers desktop applications. Do a search for Microsoft Office and you'll see 2010 in the list.
It also offers desktop applications. Do a search for Microsoft Office and you'll see 2010 in the list.
Isn't this, because its a microsoft product? and they offer a metro version of office.
Isn't this, because its a microsoft product? and they offer a metro version of office.
Other developers just haven't put up their x86 apps as far as I know. I think I remember the desktop version of Quicken being mentioned as part of the Windows Store but I can't be sure.
Pretty sure I spotted Adobe Lightroom on there too.
They have some desktop programs listed in the store, but you can't actually buy and download them through it. They just have a link that takes you to the publishers website, so it's pretty useless.
So is windows 8 actually finished? Is it compatible with most games and programs that are out now? Can i use something other than metro?
So is windows 8 actually finished? Is it compatible with most games and programs that are out now? If you download the release preview, you'll have to do a clean install of the final build when it comes out. But if you have access to it through Dreamspark premium, TechNet, or MSDN, then get it. It can run almost everything that runs on 7, and you don't have to use metro.
So is windows 8 actually finished? Is it compatible with most games and programs that are out now? Can i use something other than metro?
Oh, also, once it's released in October, you will be able to upgrade from XP, Vista, or 7 for $40.
Nice.
Has a price been announced for the System Builders or OEM editions?
Has a price been announced for the System Builders or OEM editions?
Not that I know of, but I assume it would be the same price as it was with Win7 at launch So around £95
They have some desktop programs listed in the store, but you can't actually buy and download them through it. They just have a link that takes you to the publishers website, so it's pretty useless.
And here's what that looks like:
Is there a way to make the icons for non-metro applications full size?
fuck, tried to install my new audio card. this is what I get in the device manager [t]http://goo.gl/dZbYH[/t] and this while installing the driver from the manufacturer website. [t]http://goo.gl/z8AtQ[/t] but it is plugged in and I already tried to switch the pci slot :suicide:
http://brainbit.wordpress.com/2010/07/19/asus-xonar-unified-drivers/ Use those.
Is there a way to make the icons for non-metro applications full size?
I assume the developers will have to implement that.
http://brainbit.wordpress.com/2010/07/19/asus-xonar-unified-drivers/ Use those.
I tried those already, I'm getting the same issue even if I use them. [t]http://goo.gl/xmkl1[/t]
I tried those already, I'm getting the same issue even if I use them. [t]http://goo.gl/xmkl1[/t]
Try reseating your card then restarting the installer the drivers won't install properly either way, the panel doesn't show up correctly unless you install in Test mode. You can blame this one on ASUS for not signing their drivers properly
I should be getting a Dreamspark account this week, is the version on there the full version?
I should be getting a Dreamspark account this week, is the version on there the full version?
Yes, as long as you have Dreamspark Premium.
Tried the above, didn't work. It's definitely not a seating issue in my case because my device is there under 'Other' in the Device Manager, pointing the updater to the folder manually gives me 'The class installer has denied the request to install or upgrade this device'
I assume the developers will have to implement that.
Microsoft should just let us do it ourselves, similar to giving shortcuts a custom .ico
Tried the above, didn't work.
Can't you install it trough device manager?
That's what I meant by poting it to the folder manually (through Device Manager)
I have an Asus Xonar Essence STX, same issue, there is no real solid fix, Asus just hasn't released Windows 8 drivers for their cards yet
Some companies won't, forcing you to upgrade hardware. I'm looking at YOU, M-Audio! >:/ It took enough bitching and moaning, but they finally got off their asses and gave us a Windows 7 driver for the M-Audio USB external soundcard/break-out box.
So since the Consumer Preview, Windows 8 can sync my desktop background, theme color, and some advanced windows explorer settings.. but not my time zone?
