Windows 8 looks like a train wreck..
I'll try it sometime but I'm not expecting to like it much.
Let's not start this again. Try it first, then complain.

I'm talking about the design. I've seen many screenshots to make a decent judgement
I've had a few clicks around in Windows 8 outside of a virtual machine, since my PC was due for a hard drive reshuffle and reformat anyway.
One neat feature: if you try running an application which requires a version of the .NET Framework that you do not have, Windows will offer to install it instead of allowing the application to spew a horrible "0x1234abcd" error message box.
One downside: as far as I can tell, there's no way to make custom application shortcuts on the Start screen use a full-size icon. For example, if you want a tile that uses a game's box art in ~120x120 dimensions, it can't be done. The best you can get is a 48x48 icon with the application text. See this screenshot. The left tile is the actual Windows 8 tile, whilst the right tile is the effect I'd like to have.
Other than that one issue, it's actually not as bad as I thought it'd be. I'm going to give it a fair shot.
Huh, holding down ALT and double clicking on a file will bring up the properties. That's awesome.

Oh, yeah. I'm not a huge fan of the Metro stuff. It seems like it'd work for a Tablet interface, but so would so many other things.
Does anybody remember the Microsoft Future Vision video they put out a while ago?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6cNdhOKwi0
There are a few really neat interface concepts in that video, things that could be turned into a useful and productive interface if given half the effort that was put into Metro.

I'm happy that they're finally getting rid of that "don't mess with success" mantra and trying something new for once!
My friend he installed Win8 while being extremly skeptical of it and a week later he absolutely loves it! He's a big time OCD faggot but he really likes the whole concept and cool things about windows 8. Specially the task manager. Oh the task manager!

While I don't agree with getting rid of the window chrome, I do think your edit looks really good.

Why would that list even be localized? It's not like there's anything to translate...

and then you shall go and complain about how the new iphone is the same as the old one

Nonono, there's Windows 98 Tweede editie.
Because it was necessary to list Windows 98 Second Edition twice in each language. :v:
I think I'd prefer something like the Office 2013 design on the explorer where there's a lot of white, a coloured outline, faded user-chosen design behind it and the ribbon.
Also, loads of sexy animations. Man I love that in Office 2013. Dem animations.
Can someone with a dreamspark premium account tell me the file name of the 64bit Windows 8 Pro ISO and if it's possible to install it without a key and activate it later? I'm getting the last piece of my new PC tomorrow and I won't have my full account until Thursday...
It isn't possible to install without a key.
I got "en_windows_8_pro_vl_x64_dvd_917699.iso" from... Somewhere... and it did install without a key, but it wasn't activated. I imagine it would activate using a command. Is it the right ISO?

How'd you get past the part where it asked you for a key? I had to reboot into 7, open up the file I had saved it in, write it on paper, and then boot back into the installer to continue.
I'm running the enterprise evaluation but now I have a professional key from Dreamspark, is there an easy way to 'downgrade'?

I think there might be a little stupid link that says "continue without license key" or sth

If the VL in that filename means volume licensing, you probably won't be able to activate it at all.
[editline]19th September 2012[/editline]
Oh and the Dreamspark .iso is en_windows_8_x64_dvd_915440.iso.

Interestingly, when I installed 8 via WDS, OOBE let me skip providing a key. It asks for a key every time I boot, sure, but I can skip it.

Nope. Gonna have to do a clean install.
The main thing that bothers me is when you open the start screen, it obliterates all of your snapped programs on other displays and everything goes horribly wrong.
Why not just shift everything over 320px and open the start screen on the left?
[editline]16th September 2012[/editline]
Also, I never ever want to see those silly charms in desktop mode. I'm going to have a think about relocating the power button and what not.
If my display is 1366x768 you've reduced my desktop to 448, and then what happens if I have an app snapped? If you get rid of the charms, you also must re-implement the brightness and notifications control too.
