All of my critical data is already synced to my 23GB Dropbox account, so I don't have anything critical on my PCs that I can't simply reinstall later.
23 GB? lol scrub i have 46
I have 50GB on box.com and no clue what to put on it
Yeah, that's what I was referring to. Anyway, I ordered a Samsung 830 256GB. Apparently those things are reliable. I'm not going down that high performance path with sandforce again. That extra speed doesn't help too much when it stops working :v: On a sidenote, SSDs have gotten a lot cheaper in two years time. A 256GB SSD would have cost over half the price of my rig two years ago.
Apart from the Samsung 840 it's the best SSD out there, good choice.
23 GB? lol scrub i have 46
oh please [editline]24th September 2012[/editline] Also I love how everything syncs with my Google account, sure is nice seeing what calendar events and stuff pop up on my lockscreen and metro.
Why would you even use box.com anyway?
They had a promo on one weekend where you got 50GB for free for life if you installed the app, so I figured I might as well. What's wrong with box.com? [editline]24th September 2012[/editline] Oh, desktop sync is a "pro" feature.. how useless [editline]24th September 2012[/editline] Wait, I got the sync client from https://www.box.com/settings/sync and it seems to work anyways even though I'm a free member? what the hell
I might start using this actually. Since I can't get Dropbox to work, which is a shame. No contextual menu for me. Okey, I could also download the client and it has contextual menu. Sad to say but I have to say god bye to Dropbox =(. Nvm, not allowed to use direct links.
I'm liking what' I'm seeing so far in this thread... looking forward to it's full release.
You mean retail, it's already out isn't it, just not for retail.
You mean retail, it's already out isn't it, just not for retail.
The RTM, which is the final version, is out to people with special access (read: people who give Microsoft lots of licensing money), the term you're looking for is general availability (GA.)
How does the activation of Windows 8 RTM work exactly? Is it free if you have an MSDN account? How do you activate it?
They give you a product key.
They give you a product key.
So it's free if you have an MSDN account? [editline]24th September 2012[/editline] And does it have a time limit or something?
So it's free if you have an MSDN account? [editline]24th September 2012[/editline] And does it have a time limit or something?
You don't get anything for free, the cheapest MSDN subscription is 750 €. I'm not sure about the time limit, if it works like Dreamspark you keep it even after the subscription ends.
It's free if I get an account from school
That's a Dreamspark premium account (was formerly known as MSDNAA). But yeah, in that case you will keep your Windows license even after your Dreamspark subscription expires.
I opened a .gif and the default program was set to the Metro Picture app or whatever. Now my start screen looks like this: (running RP) [editline]25th September 2012[/editline] I really don't understand how Photos affected the start screen. The fuck...
23 GB? lol scrub i have 46
I could have had more if I had a .edu email address, but I did not. Still, I use my (free) 23GB wisely.
I could have had more if I had a .edu email address, but I did not. Still, I use my (free) 23GB wisely.
It doesn't have to be .edu, any school email is fine (or at least mine worked and it ends with .fi).
Ooh, I just realized that I have a school email address now, even though I'm only still in the application process.
So how is this upgrade going to work from windows 7? Do I have to have a legit Windows 7 Key? I'm almost positive it is legit but I was never sure as it was my uncle who did it.
You could always ask your uncle if he sailed the seven seas with an eyepatch
I'm just curious if I need a legit key or if I can just buy windows 8 pro. It doesn't matter to me if I have to pay extra but discounts are nice.
I'm just curious if I need a legit key or if I can just buy windows 8 pro. It doesn't matter to me if I have to pay extra but discounts are nice.
Yes. In order to do the $40 upgrade, you will need a valid Windows 7 License. Otherwise you can purchase Windows 8 for full price.
I'm just curious if I need a legit key or if I can just buy windows 8 pro. It doesn't matter to me if I have to pay extra but discounts are nice.
If you don't have a key for 7 (or Vista or XP), you'll need to buy the System Builder release of Windows 8 Pro, which will be about $120-$140.
eh shit, I'm thinking it may not be a legit key then. I do an old XP disc with a real key. I could just throw that in and upgrade right? I currently don't have anything on my HDD's so recovering anything isn't a big deal. [editline]26th September 2012[/editline] Could I use a windows 7 upgrade key? Does that actually count as a normal key? my uncle does have one of those and I could just go jot it down and borrow a CD next time I go over there.

You might as well just install XP and upgrade directly from that.
Alright, any idea on how many times the key can be used? cause my dad was going to upgrade from XP.
I got my new SSD today. No luck activating Windows 8 again though. I guess it's back to Windows 7 again for me.
Alright, any idea on how many times the key can be used? cause my dad was going to upgrade from XP.
I dunno. Details like that aren't really known right now. Just try it when it comes out. I'm guessing it might be once though.
So Stardock totally lied about making Start8 free, dicks.
