that looks way too artsy fartsy to be practical

Just installed Windows 8, have a few questions. Before this, I had two hardrives. My primary had my Windows 7 install, and programs like Chrome. My secondary one had all of my games, movies, music, etc. I have Steam on that second one. How can I get programs from these harddrives to show on my Windows 8 apps? And btw Windows 8 is on a new partition from that primary drive.

All users: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu User: %appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu

So who is going to buy Windows 8 when it comes out on the 26th?
I was going to, but you probably know why I'm not going to anymore (hint: bottom left) still plan on getting a surface and a 920, though
I'll likely be buying the upgrade for my laptop since I used the single 64bit Dreamspark key on my desktop. While I did get the version on my laptop activated through the phone, I just don't trust it enough to get rid of my Windows 7 partition.
I'll be buying it.
So who is going to buy Windows 8 when it comes out on the 26th?
Pro-ordering ASAP
So who is going to buy Windows 8 when it comes out on the 26th?
I'm going to wait to see if my school ends up giving it away for free. If not, I'll buy it.
if i buy the $40 upgrade am i going to have to install it over my old OS every time i want to do a clean install?
if i buy the $40 upgrade am i going to have to install it over my old OS every time i want to do a clean install?
Depends if they still let you use upgrade media for full installs. I haven't heard anything about it though.
if i buy the $40 upgrade am i going to have to install it over my old OS every time i want to do a clean install?
Microsoft hasn't been very clear on the issue. You definitely need a previous version installed to buy the upgrade, but I'm not sure what happens after that.
Going to install Windows 8 on my desktop now, as my Uni provided a free edition. I'll try to force myself to use it for a bit, just to see how it goes. Hope everything will go well :tinfoil: [editline]8th October 2012[/editline] Backing Up is the worst thing about formating.
Backing Up is the worst thing about formating.
It used to be for me. Now my tv shows, pictures, music and movies are all stored on my server. Both my desktop and laptop have 128GB SSDs and a larger secondary HDD, which have Steam games and other large files that I either need offline or don't need on the server. My documents are all stored on dropbox. My bookmarks and extensions are all synced with Chrome. Almost all of my regularly used applications are on Ninite, except for Media Player Classic - Home Cinema and Microsoft Office.
Using Norton Ghost backing up isn't much of a problem. I love backing shit up now.
ReDo backup
I mostly use Norton Ghost because I got a full license with my SSD. I like it.
HSN was selling Windows 8 laptops ahead of release. Microsoft told them to stop (since we're still 18 days away from release!) but the video is still up. Wonder what's going to happen with the people that bought one. [hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFXKp3TrGQs[/hd] I REALLY like how they explained Windows 8 and showed it off. And it's interesting to see the trackpad opening the charms bar like that.

And god how I'm looking forward to it! I just need a proper server - Or as I should say, I just need the money for it :v:
Is that laptop running the Dev Preview with those sample apps?
It's running RTM. Has the RTM themes and (what looks like) some preloaded Gateway apps (Britannica, Netflix, etc). They showed a video from some dev preview apps during their presentation but the PC itself is running RTM.
Would anyone happen to have a .png of the Windows 8 Developer Preview start button image?
It's nice working inside of a computer department. I have to learn/know Windows 8 in and out, and might be getting supplied a free copy of Windows 8 Pro and RT for my tablet and computer. Hoping that my Galaxy 10.1 can be flashed.
