didn't see that coming

Classic Shell works just fine if you take the time to adjust it to your needs.
I just wish search was in the bar itself and not outside like how programs were shown in XP.

This was always the sexiest start button...
Is there a way to get it in into Win8 AND have the new start screen?
Hey amiga, what did Stardock say about your own concept of the start menu?

It looked like shti the way it looked in DP, though.

This is exactly what I wanted to happen with the laptop market with the release of Windows 8.
This makes me incredibly happy.
Also, is it possible to downgrade Win 8 Pro to standard? I have 3 PCs with Win 8 Pro on them but only 2 Pro licenses, so I'm going to try to downgrade one to standard since I have 2 of those keys as well.

This is what I expected to happen with the laptop market - one of the reason why I think people are so angered with Windows 8, is that I think they thought it'd be on precisely the same hardware. It's not, it's going to be different; hardware and software needs to hold hands.

However, on a desktop it's going to be the same hardware. I've never had a problem with 8 on a laptop - it's fantastic regardless if you're using a touchscreen or touchpad. However, on a desktop, you'll always be using a mouse and keyboard. And that's where consumers are going to have problems. I REALLY hope OEMs do a good job of explaining the hot corners and keyboard shortcuts...better than Microsoft did, at least ("Move your mouse into any corner"...wow, that's helpful.)
Is there a legit way to bypass Windows 8 activation until I can buy it when it comes out? I don't want to crack it or anything illegal, just a way to get rid of the nagging "Activate Windows" watermark on my desktop until I can buy it when it comes out in a couple weeks.
Huh, neat. For some reason when I installed Win8 Pro on my ThinkPad the touchpad gestures are working fine. :v:

I'm not sure if this still works, but in Windows 7, you could open an admin command prompt and run "slmgr -rearm" and get another 30 days on the activation timer (up to 3 times.)

It doesn't have a timer AFAIK - instead it locks you out of personalization options and pops up occasionally going "activate me activate me"
Just realized I have access to a Dreamspark Premium account from my university :)
Downloading Win8 64bit Professional right now!

That shit came up in games for me. So I went back to W7 and cried because it's worse. Then someone noted that you could activate and I did that asap and have had it activated since :D.

my uni has one but when I emailed the computer science department - of which I am enrolled - the single email for contacting the department did not exist.
guess that's what my cheap tuition pays for :v:
[editline]10th October 2012[/editline]
and i mean it doesn't exist as in the outlook server pinged back and said "this recipient does not exist"
Do you have to contact the department to get a copy? I haven't even declared my major, and it still let me get a key.
well my usual login details don't work so I think I need a separate account set up
I also did an account request through the dreamspark website 2 weeks ago to no response so
I have to either contact the head of the Computer Sciences department to get a Dreamspark account, or I can just go down to the Computer Store on campus and talk to the guys there, since they can also give out Dreamspark accounts.
Hopefully I can get one next week... I can't wait to upgrade.
Laptop now running Windows 8.
I think it's confusing and there's a lot of stuff I need to get used to.
For a start; how do I close apps (I think that's what I mean) besides opening that window/frame on the left side and closing them manually by right clicking them?

Well for one you probably don't need to. Metro apps are frozen in the background and take up next to no processing power when you leave them running so all you have to really do is press the start button and leave it there. Of course if you really want, you can close them by grabbing the top with the cursor and pulling it off the bottom of the screen.

To close an app, just drag it from the top of the sceen to the bottom. You should have no reason to do this at any time, though.
Thanks guys.
Windows 8 is running very smooth and I like the design so far :)
I guess it just takes some time to get used to the new features.
If you want to have a good experience, uninstall every single last metro app and enjoy the few desktop enhancements there are.

Dear Sublime Text developers, make a metro app and you can have all of my money.

Have you got split personality or something?
Make your mind up. Do you love it or hate it?
I like it on the desktop... It's a little inconsistent at times, though I wouldn't say that it's horrible.
Try using it with two monitors, its not nice at all.
I have. I use keyboard shortcuts for all of the corner stuff and keep one screen aside for the desktop at pretty much all times.
Try using it with two monitors, its not nice at all.
I use two monitors, it's fine.
