I'm curious if "live tiles breaking" is a common problem or if it's something to do with my hardware configuration. This has been happening since the beta and preview versions: [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/obZPo.jpg[/thumb]

I'm using the RTM version from MSDNAA since last month, so I should be fine already. Unfortunately this isn't the case :(. Other than that, the system works flawlessly so I guess it's not really a problem.

Reckon with the Windows 8 Pro Upgrade I can wipe my current Windows 8 RTM installation and start fresh? Or is it upgrade only.

[editline]12th October 2012[/editline] BEST BUY FEATURE LIST: FEATURES Easily access the classic look you love any time I am not sure if they are talking about how you set up everything or a non metro style UI. That statement is vague at best.
Might be late, but I didn't see it between here and page 120, this just showed up on Microsoft's Facebook page
I agree with them. It is beautiful, it starts really fast and the workflow is much more fluid.
Holy fuck in my country Windows 8 pro costs 160$ Not worth the money for me.

I'll buy W8 for :20bux: as soon as it comes out
I'll probably wait for Windows 8 Pro System Builder to come out then.
Wasn't keen on idea of Windows 8 as I thought it looked like it should be for tablets, not desktop. Although, I do see there is a main desktop view but how does it all fair?

It's very nice.
I like the fact, that the normal and metro chrome are treated as separate machines. This way I can save two different sessions. :v:
so for the upgrade offer, is it Windows 8 Pro or no? I have Windows 7 Home Premium
Just saw MSN's hands-on video. I don't agree with the start menu being a whole new screen, just looks more cluttered to me. This isn't an Xbox or a Windows phone... I've also heard 8 can't run Steam. Is this true?
It's not true, Steam runs perfectly for me. As for the start screen, it doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would.
I did an update from Win 7 Pro to Win 8 Pro and all of my programs work seamlessly.
lol rumour mill... "gabe say he wont upgrade steam for windows 8!"

Is this true?
Actually I find that the start screen makes a lot of sense when you start pinning stuff you otherwise wouldn't add to the start menu - I have a folder pinned on the start screen for every subject I have in school, for example. The things I use most often I just pin to the superbar like I do in 7, but in 8 I can just get that much more content into my reach by just using the start screen. It actually makes sense - Microsoft data showed that people just used the superbar their most popular applications, and the start menu was thus made kinda obsolete. The start menu couldn't contain that many icons, and if you just pinned everything it became kinda awkward to use. At the same time it was no longer the easiest way to launch applications, and therefore it makes sense to have two different entities with different purposes - the superbar for quick launch, and the start screen for having all the less used stuff on.
I did an update from Win 7 Pro to Win 8 Pro and all of my programs work seamlessly.
The only thing that stopped working for me was Minecraft, but that's because of Intel's crappy in-box drivers for Intel HD that don't support OpenGL. I fixed it by force installing the regular Windows 7 ones.
I did an update from Win 7 Pro to Win 8 Pro and all of my programs work seamlessly.
Only problem I have had with Win 8 is Default Programs, my Mumble won't open links with Chrome ever since I uninstalled IE.
And with this guide, I can play Minecraft with my GMA 4500MHD: http://www.neowin.net/news/how-to-install-legacy-intel-hd-graphics-drivers-on-windows-8 In my case, I got the 64bit Windows 7 Drivers from Intel's site and did that modification. Seemed to work. Now I can get rid of my Windows 7 partition. Wooo.
Thanks! That worked. Too bad Minecraft is so slow on Intel GMA/HD, and my chip is passively cooled so my whole laptop shuts down from overheating after a while.
The only thing I really don't like about Metro is how cluttered the All Apps screen is. It's not uniform at all, and it's almost like they want you to never actually scroll through it and simply search for what you want.

Most of the time it's faster. But I see how it can be disconcerting to not have folders anymore.

When I'm on my server, I get about 30-35 FPS with it maximised on my 1280x800 screen. It does get up to about 60 degrees, which is a little worrying.
it's not even not having folders, I just feel like each item takes up wayyy too much space on the screen

Or press CTRL+wheel mouse Or pinch to zoom out in a tablet.
