The only thing that stopped working for me was Minecraft, but that's because of Intel's crappy in-box drivers for Intel HD that don't support OpenGL. I fixed it by force installing the regular Windows 7 ones.
Hmm, I've seen loads of people having problems with Minecraft - me included, and I'm on a 5650.
I've heard a lot of bad things between minecraft and Windows8, how true is it?
Ranging from 'it doesn't launch' to 'I get 2FPS'
I'm on Windows 8 RTM with a GTX 560 Ti and Minecraft runs just fine for me.

If it doesn't launch, make sure your graphic drivers are installed and up-to-date. It didn't launch for me until I installed those drivers.
some drivers under windows 8 don't support opengl yet, for example my laptops integrated gpu - so no, Minecraft doesn't work in some cases

how does upgrading to rtm from release preview work? is it possible or will I have to do a reformat?
For some reason I can no longer use Fn+F11 and Fn+F12 for volume down/up in Windows 8 on my Notebook.
Fn+F5 and Fn+F6 for brightness down/up works so the Fn-button is not broken.

Nevermind updating drivers helped.
Windows 8 RTM, GTX 470, minecraft runs smooth
I have to reinstall all my programs if I ever upgrade from Vista.
Fuck being old.
Are these versions on Dreamspark the final products or will I have to upgrade again? Also when I register through Dreamspark Premium, is the school's department head checking or is it just a random Microsoft employee?

They're RTM.
They're RTM.
Will Dreamspark Premium receive the release?
Will Dreamspark Premium receive the release?
RTM stands for Release To Manufacturing, meaning it's finished and ready to be shipped out. It's already the final release version.

But won't people have to upgrade again upon release? I remember reading that the keys are only 90 day evaluations.

Not Dreamspark premium ones, those are either 2 years or forever (I've heard both)
Not Dreamspark premium ones, those are either 2 years or forever (I've heard both)
They last forever, but you lose the ability to download it after 24 months.

they're supposed to be forever until you stop having access to however you have dreamspark premium (graduate school, stop being a member of whatever club) but lmao they don't enforce that

I'm confused, you say forever "until" which implies not forever.
The download link only last two years but the license is forever, just like every other license.
I'm a student who uses Dreamspark for programs like Visual Studio, as I'm an aspiring game developer.
Do I have any reason to take advantage of the fact that students can get a free/cheap upgrade to the Windows 8 RTM? Also, what's Dreamspark 'premium'?
[editline]fuck[/editline]
Ah, I see. Premium refers to institutions who subscribe to Dreamspark for free student/faculty software.
I doubt my college has access to it. Never mind.
Regardless, do I have any reason to upgrade to Windows 8 other than the eye candy?
can you get metro to not take up the whole screen somehow?
can you get metro to not take up the whole screen somehow?
You can snap metro apps to the sides, but you can't put them in windows if you mean that.
can you get metro to not take up the whole screen somehow?
There's various programs that do that, but I honestly only see a few cases where you'd wanna do that.

remember when one time i debated with you about metro is bad
remember when one time i debated with you about metro is bad
I remember having that discussion with about 50% of the people that later changed opinion - it's all good.

Yeah, the point in metro is that you're not dealing with the awkward desktop paradigm for activities where it's not necessary.
Speaking of HTPCs I can't wait for the inevitable port of XBMC over to MetroUI.
Is the key from Dreamspark only valid for one device? Had it on my Macbook air untill it (completly) died on me last week. Got my dads old work PC so thought that i would install W8 on it...

It's the same as any other key. It's not a special version or license, it's just that your school pays for it rather than you. It'll work on another computer so long as it's only on one machine at a time.
if I wanted to buy a usb 3.0 flash drive to store my Windows 8 (will use that upgrade promo which is download only), which one would be a good idea?
just tried running samsung kies on Windows 8 :suicide:

I'm surprised Kies manages to run on anything
