I got a kick out of this: http://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1113117-ubuntu-1210-released-pokes-fun-of-win8/page__pid__595256329#entry595256329
doesn't everybody hate unity
Just pre-ordered Win 8 Pro from Microsoft's site
The Pandora Windows app the marketplace is surprisingly good despite not being "official". Works well when I snap it to the left of my screen for multitasking.
doesn't everybody hate unity
same type of people that hate/hated metro installing another DE Is like at max 10 words in terminal
What will happen if Windows 8 beta is my main OS after it releases?
What will happen if Windows 8 beta is my main OS after it releases?
You will have until January 15th to upgrade or downgrade. Either way, you'll have to do a clean install.
You will have until January 15th to upgrade or downgrade. Either way, you'll have to do a clean install.
I'll keep it installed until then, should be time to decide if I want it or not.
Well whatever, that's only one example of why Linux is a lot harder than Windows. Trust me, I've spent my fair share of time wrestling with Linux during boring summers.
No. You completely changed the meaning of what I just said. I said one command because I'm primarily a command line user. It's still one button click on Ubuntu (two if you count the "UAC" prompt) for the average case, and the drivers are updated with your update manager. I believe Windows 7 manages to do this as well now (I wouldn't know, I don't trust automated driver updaters), good for MS. Anyway, this isn't really a user issue. Normal users get their OS installed beforehand or by someone else.
You get Office for free and I think 6 months of Xbox music subscribtion. That's not bad, and if anything it's just impressive that it can hold up to that.
every time I am reminded of xbox integration or xbox services exist, I get mad
every time I am reminded of xbox integration or xbox services exist, I get mad
Agreed.^ I don't have an Xbox 360, so I could give two shits about a service I get for free that I'll never use.
every time I am reminded of xbox integration or xbox services exist, I get mad
it's not like you have to use them it's a brand [editline]19th October 2012[/editline] basically it's the new zune music thing [editline]19th October 2012[/editline] and hey, at least you get new services here in russia there's nothing no itunes, pandora, spotify, zune, amazon shit sucks
every time I am reminded of xbox integration or xbox services exist, I get mad
Why? Because of the connotation? They're just knitting their ecosystem more tightly together, it may not be important to you, but people with an Xbox might get some value out of this. Other than the fact, that they changed the design of the music (from the WP7.5 white/black version), I have no quarrel with this.
I use my xbox a lot to talk to my friends, I like it. It's not like you have to pay extra for it in Windows 8 or are forced to use it.
checking this splashtop windows 8 thing out on my nexus 7 this is so fucking cool
Well, Windows 8 is now my only OS. I hope it was worth it. [editline]19th October 2012[/editline] how do I make a shortcut from the taskbar and start menu run as an administrator by default?
I like Start8 better than this Yooki thing.
I like the stock Start Screen (I am the 1%)
well for some reason when i try to install window 7 in my alternate HD 1. running with window 8 loaded trough disk freezes for a while and then shows up " NOT COMAPTIBLE IN WINDOWS.EXE or someting" when i try to boot it goes well until the part where i have to select my HD it gives an error about a controller...
I like Start8 better than this Yooki thing.
Pokki? I think it's retarded. It does everything Metro does, but it does it... smaller. But still takes up a good portion of your screen. More than your standard start menu.

From the taskbar: right-click the icon, then right-click the program name and click properties. Go to the compatibility tab, and check "Run this program as an administator". But I'm not sure whether this only applies to the shortcut; it might actually affect the program any way you launch it (which would take care of the start screen).
I've decided that I would get windows 8 for a new computer. I've been using vista for 2 years or so, so it will (hopefully) be a nice change. Will compatibility be a problem? I haven't switched OS's in awhile, so sorry If I seem clueless.

Certain OS settings will be lost.
Anyone know how to fullscreen a youtube video but still show an app clipped to the side? I basically just want it to take up the desktop window.
Ugh, my college doesn't have Windows 8 on their Dreamspark (That I can access, at least). I guess i'll be forking out the $50 for the upgrade.
Is it possible to jump back to Win7 if I'm not satisfied with Win8 and still keep programs, etc?
No. You would be satisfied with Windows 8 anyway
When you go Win8, you never go back. [editline]20th October 2012[/editline] EVER

It's just because right now I have a lot of stuff that's customized on Windows 7 and I'm not sure if it will fuck up if I switch. Right now I'm using a combination of 7Pro and my own theme settings for foobar2000 making it look like this: [IMG_thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/7profoobar2k.jpg[/IMG_thumb] And here with a typical Windows 7 theme: [IMG_thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/typicalwin7themefoobar2k.jpg[/IMG_thumb] So basically; if 7Pro doesn't work with Windows 8, then my customized theme for Foobar2000 will look fugly. [editline]20th October 2012[/editline] I should just actually suck it up and customize foobar2k over the Windows 8 looks though :v:
