Just because you think its bad doesn't mean everyone else has to or "be shot".
Whether I like Windows 8 or not, I wasn't talking about that. I mean using "People hate change" as a way to justify the correctness of design decisions. That is what I hate. First it's not even an argument. People aren't disliking your changes simply because they are changes. They're disliking them because there's something they preferred about the old way, whatever it was, and nothing you can do will change this. No matter how brilliant you think you are, there's going to be a percentage of users that will disagree with your brain's logic and they're not wrong to do so. Whether they get "used" to the new and shiny way is irrelevant. People get used to shittier things all the time. Doesn't mean they want to. Second, it's a brainless defense for countless UI designers out there. You hate what I do? You're a moron who hates changes, or who is too stupid to understand. Defending yourself in such way is just admitting that you are too lazy to understand why your design is sub par and how to fix it. You prefer to make your users do all the work because you refuse to accept that your design is wrong.
Had my first bad Win8 experience, other than that it has been a lovely experience. Basically it froze up and I rebooted it by force. Next thing I can only login to a "temporary profile" and dont have any user-specific settings. Had to make my account local, create a new LIVE one, transfer everything across and setup my desktop again and reinstall a few programs. Seems to be okay now. Running Release Preview, so I really wasn't suprised.

What people think will always be subjective with regards to designs, and as such shouldn't be given much weight; truly the only way to see if you will like a design is to use it with an open mind.
People who use "People hate change!1!!!" as an excuse to justify bad changes are the biggest retards on this Earth and they need to get shot. People hate bad changes. Doesn't take a fucking genius to figure that one out.
Says the guy still running XP. Any reason that you're using a 10+ year old operating system?
I enjoy Windows 8 and I think it is good at computers and videogames.
Thing is, people are creatures of habit, they generally hate change (I know I do to some extent);
And I never said the opposite, and never will. Doesn't change the fact that people on here will defend anything that Microsoft does and will repeatedly tell people that they "hate change" whenever they bring up perfectly valid criticism of operating system features. That kind of people are the morons I'm talking about.
Says the guy still running XP. Any reason that you're using a 10+ year old operating system?
Yeah, it's this thing I have called a job. Once your balls drop you'll probably find out about it. If you look two posts above yours you'll notice I posted from a Windows 7 machine. Hey look, I'm using OS X now!
Or hey, maybe this might seem like a stretch to you, but it's entirely possible that being a luddite for the sake of being a luddite is ridiculous
Or hey, maybe this might seem like a stretch to you, but it's entirely possible that being a luddite for the sake of being a luddite is ridiculous
Why would this be a stretch to me? Of course hating for the sake of hating is stupid. What is even more stupid is pinning that attitude on everyone who disagrees with you when you're unable to cope with the opinion of others regarding UI. And I don't think luddite means what you think it means.

Those who have tried it level reservations against it that just plainly aren't valid. I will admit that the UI is very touchscreen oriented but that makes it no less usable compared to the old desktop, and with how easy it is to customize, difficulty using it is really your own fault and not the UI. Probably the biggest mistake as far as Metro goes is Microsoft's lack of an included tutorial on... anything. When it's installing, it just tells you how to access Charms, the multitasking bar, and the start menu. That's it. That's only part of the new design changes. And on the point of luddite, lol no shit my definition is off. It's not the 19th century anymore.
Well on the point of Metro, I find that a good majority of the people who bash it have yet to give it a serious try.
You're right about that, but some people on here really need a change of attitude. Daniel M is a great example of what I'm saying. He doesn't really care about anyone's opinion, as can be seen by how he discredits my post simply because he thought I was using XP. Those kind of people don't care whether you used something or not, whether your criticism is valid or not, they'll just defend whatever they like and attack whatever they don't without really using their brain in the process. There's definitely valid criticism toward Metro and no, it's definitely not always the fault of the user like you're implying.
And on the point of luddite, lol no shit my definition is off. It's not the 19th century anymore.
No the term is still commonly used, but it means someone with an aversion towards new technology, not towards change in general. Maybe you knew that and considered Metro "technology", it's not a big deal. EDIT: Thanks y'all for proving I'm right by rating dumb and not replying because you have nothing to back yourself up with :)
Windows 8 is fucked. Apple putting the iPad mini and iPad 4 on pre-order for the 26th is going to COMPLETELY overshadow Windows 8 release.
Windows 8 is fucked. Apple putting the iPad mini and iPad 4 on pre-order for the 26th is going to COMPLETELY overshadow Windows 8 release.
Well that didn't take long.
IT's OVER MICROSHIT IS FINISHED!!!! no
I didn't say Microsoft. I just had high hopes from work and have been getting a lot of people pumped for Surface coming out, my job as a Salesman. It's all gone to waste now because Apple has more of a glamour spot over Microsoft.
Because preorder goes up for an ipad? I seriously doubt that is going to overshadow the release of a windows operating system.

There's a reason Apple has had constant profits, including during the recession. [editline]23rd October 2012[/editline] It's an introduction of a new tablet vs an introduction of a new tablet, please don't tell me this was not done on purpose by Apple.
Give me one reason why it sucks other than Metro.
No more Aero glass, no more desktop gadgets, no more adjusting the icon spacing on the desktop, no more start menu... All of which I love in Win 7 and use DAILY. Metro is just a gimmick that should have only been on the tablet and phone versions. Windows doesn't need further dumbing-down.
You should have already been using Rainmeter instead of Gadshits :v: Aero has had it's run, just as long as the other styles.
please don't buy a surface pro it's going to be a piece of shit
please don't buy a surface pro it's going to be a piece of shit
I'll wait out and reserve my opinions for now, instead of basing mine on rumours. I have the patience to compare the Thinkpad Tablet 2 and the surface, I'll make my decision then.

I'm probably going to be using my tablet in a work experience, not while I'm walking. I don't have chicken arms either. I carry a lapto bag around with me, so I can put it in there.
No more Aero glass

Also, for people who complain that Microsoft ditched Aero too soon: Classic UI (95-2000): 1995-2001, 6 years Luna (XP): 2001-2006, 5 years Aero (Vista, 7): 2006-2012, 6 years. So yeah. Aero lasted for as long as other Windows themes. Only difference now is that Microsoft is obviously trying to leave all the legacy stuff behind - and it makes sense to do that.

no more desktop gadgets
Just use Rainmeter... I love how The Verge puts a Windows 8 review out (I don't even know why they'd do it at this point), then fills the whole page with Apple announcements: I might just be a butthurt faggot, but it seems kind of unneeded.
(I don't even know why they'd do it at this point).
I heard they recently got a load of sponsorship money off Microsoft for something to do with Polygon so I guess they wanted them to keep MS news near the top during an Apple event. I agree, though, they definitely should have waited until the release when it's not going to get flooded with Apple stuff.
I'm sure this has been asked a million times but how do you open programs/search for programs, etc without a start button?
I'm sure this has been asked a million times but how do you open programs/search for programs, etc without a start button?
You can use the explorer and find it manually You can press start and type its name You can pin it to your start screen, desktop or taskbar
I'm sure this has been asked a million times but how do you open programs/search for programs, etc without a start button?
Ehh, click in the lower left corner, start typing? Or use the the Windows key, start typing. Functionality is the exact same.
